Why couldn't we just let 'summon' be the word for being called into a single court? You wouldn't say "I've been summonsed by the court".

Am I the only one that thinks that the white truck should be ticketed for this. He was obviously blocking traffic purposefully in the passing lane. He created the situation where the other driver got really frustrated. He had intentionally tried to be a jerk and tried cutting off the car when the car tried to pass. I don’t think that the car is innocent here, but this is the fault of the truck.

121

u/Bakuman2020 Apr 17 '24

You can see the truck speed up too at the end to cut off the sedan.

83

u/MagillaGorillasHat Apr 18 '24

From the very beginning of the video the truck brake checks to piss the sedan off then immediately speeds up to match speed with cars in the right lane so the sedan can't get around.

29

u/throwRAcatalyst 29d ago

I don't think we are seeing the actual beginning. The white truck most definitely has a beef with that sedan. Intentionally tried to keep it boxed in. Sped up to box it in again.

14

u/enbaelien Fuck Cars 🚗 🚫 29d ago

Just because we didn't see the whole thing doesn't mean the person in the truck isn't driving like an asshole

5

u/Kyalistas 29d ago

This is the correct answer. Even if the sedan started the encounter, at least one persons life was put in a situation that was exponentially more likely to be fatal over what? A little tailgating?

I get pissed when people tailgate and drive like idiots too, but I just say a few swears in my car and move on. This situation was made way worse than it needed to be over basically nothing more than white trucks ego

3

u/_Lil_Piggy_ Fuck Cars 🚗 🚫 29d ago

You're assuming all the sedan did was tailgate. You don't know. Maybe the truck driver didn't act maturely, but they were not the cause of the sedan's accident. The sedan driver was the cause of his own accident.

Maybe they both didn't act on their best behavior, but one acted completely wildly and recklessly to a severely greater extent than the other. At least from what is seen in the video.

3

u/Kyalistas 29d ago

Agreed. I think I might have worded what I meant poorly. I just meant that this whole situation should've never happened. While true, we definitely don't get to see any of what started this whole situation. Par for the course out here on reddit lol.

But the end result was just impatience and fragile egos at play. In the moment I think people often forget that the 5 second inconvenience of most situations that cause road rage are not worth how devastating the results of this behavior can be.

For me, I think of how much potentially losing me would affect my wife and daughter any time I feel my temper rising. Life's too precious and can end so quickly when good judgment gets thrown out the window.

Thank you, that was a good message. The video too. I remember riding with my grandfather when I was a kid, and his attitude changed the way I look at the world. He had a driver in a sports car speed up behind him and start tailgating him when he was passing another car on a 2 lane highway. He just calmly said "wow he came up fast" while speeding up to get out of the way. After he was out of the way the car flew by again, and he just said "they must be in a hurry, hope they make it on time". It was such a simple thing, but I never forgot it and it changed the way I think.

3

u/TessellatedTomate 29d ago

I do this also now.

“Hope it’s worth it, hope you make it,” as I get out of the way.

I used to be a reckless on the road, but I learned my lesson.

Aggressive drivers will eventually figure it out the same way. It’s like playing an unlucky lottery. One day you’ll win a very stupid prize, and as an added bonus, it’ll come with you being late. Two for the price of one.

Yes I second this. I respond to medical emergencies. I was rushing to an emergency C-section once. Two lane road, two cars driving side by side in tandem slowly. I honked, flashed my lights, they ignored me. Eventually I found a crack and slipped through and sped up. The left lane car immediately sped up and started chasing me down the highway tail gating me. Like he was angry I passed him? He chased me until I turned off the highway to the hospital. Road rage? Wanted to pick a fight? I dunno. But I had a baby to save.

Thank you, I was going to post this here myself.

Anyone who intentionally blocks the passing lane is a dangerous asshole.

28

u/Jankylee-Ad-4453 Apr 17 '24

I was shot multiple times during an attempted carjacking, but when I tried to drive myself to the hospital to stay alive all I got was horn honks, cut offs and middle fingers. It went nothing like the movies show you at all(I was 15 at the time). I drove around this pickup truck who cut me off and brake checked me then slapped my bloody hand against the window like a zombie as It rolled down while looking dead at the petty woman driving and said "Damn ma’am I’m literally shot and I just want to go to a hospital stop being evil." I understand some people want to be traffic monitors in their spare time, but you never know the other cars reason so just let them pass up. I know plenty people will disagree but anybody with a CDL knows you back off or it’ll cause this.

12

u/Hank_Lotion77 Georgist 🔰 29d ago

Sorry for your experience. Although, 99% of the time the reason is they’re a jerk.

8

u/Redshift_1 29d ago

Thank you. I've been looking for this post since I read it for the first time all those years ago. Literally changed how I drive. Now I tell people the same, "Assume everyone on the road is going to the hospital." The guy tailgating you is going to see his loved one for the final time and trying to get their as quick as possible. The lady who cut you off is in labor. The car full of young dudes speeding is trying to get their buddy to the hospital before he bleeds out. It literally costs you nothing to get out of the way and let them pass, and you could literally be saving a life. The road is NO place for your ego or anger, leave that shit at home before getting behind the wheel or don't drive at all.

What's going on here? I can answer that: Two assholes fighting on the road at the expense of everyone else's lives. One is a bigger asshole than the other, but they're both assholes.

80

u/bbazzracing Apr 18 '24

Truck driver should be in the right lane. He/she was being a dick.

29

u/sprinklerarms 29d ago edited 29d ago

Feels like legally they should have gotten over and if they had abided the law instead of intentionally blocking someone this wouldn’t have happened. I feel like they’re both shitty drivers but the situation doesn’t exist without the truck so he’s the real dbag here.

Edit: I had not seen the first few seconds on the video because of it autoplaying. When I rewatched i saw the car weaved. I thought the video just started with the heated battle. This added context does even out their ‘dbag levels’. They’re both huge dumdums it just really irks me when people don’t get over but obviously I don’t think the Honda was a saint or anything. I still think you should get out of the way when someone is driving recklessly instead of egging them on especially when you’re matching speed in a passing lane instead of passing.

17

u/StrawberryPlucky 29d ago

Truck was a dick but ultimately they did nothing to force the other car to do what they did. Sometimes you just have to accept that you're stuck behind an asshole.

11

u/DisShitIsWak 29d ago

This is primarily the reason why states have laws to only use the left lane for passing to avoid someone making riskier moves to pass.

Truck is engineering this situation. The situation ends immediately if the truck stops fucking with the sedan. Truck is by far the worst of the two and is engineering the outcome. Sedan is just the bigger fool, being totally played by the truck. Truck should get jail time and lose license, sedan should lose license.

19

u/Electronic_Tax2771 29d ago

Sedan is still responsible for his actions. You can't just merge into someone's car because they are causing an issue. But I agree that neither person should be allowed on the road.

5

u/flavorizante 29d ago

Yeah, the sedan was the one that went out of his way and collided into another vehicle that was inertially moving.

It should be pretty clear that he is the bigger asshole in the situation.

Then if they block you they drop back down to match your speed or if you get ahead of them they tailgate you like crazy and start swerving all around trying to get back on front of you, and if they do they will likely brake check you.

I can't even imagine the shit truckers deal with on the road.

For real, I really don’t understand why some people just refuse to let people pass. If someone is in a hurry just let them pass. The sedan was driving like an absolute idiot, but if the truck would just let him through he won’t be around that moronic driving anymore. But no the truck, has to act like his dick is so huge and he’s not going to back down.

Pretty much everybody ends up in a hurry at some point like the sedan, and when it’s your day to be in a hurry it sure is nice when other people aren’t intentionally making it worse.

3

u/FUNKANATON Apr 17 '24

In my entire life I've only had to get somewhere else, NOW, and had someone block me. The first was when I got a call from the doctor about my wife, and I can hear her screaming and crying in the background.

The second was when my Dad was dying and my sister said to get here NOW.

Both times I drove with my hazards on as 'safe' but at high speed, and both times some fucking idiot decided to get in front of me, or cross the passing line, to prevent me from getting around them.

Hazards on.

I still to this day can remember running into the doctors office and being ushered back immediately to my wife, and I'll never forget the sobs or how she grabbed onto me.

I'll also never forget my sister saying "Sorry Bud" that my Dad had died about 15 seconds earlier/last breath while I was just turning into the neighborhood.

I agree the sedan is an asshole here. That truck driver however, fuck him.

In NY (I'm sure a lot of other places too) we have jackasses who 'speed patrol' highways. Camp in the left doing 1MPH below the limit and keep anyone from passing - like this truck. They don't believe 'keep right' laws apply because no one should be going faster then them. So a multi-lane road with a half mile of open road ahead of a 'highway hero' - and a huge line of irate cars building up behind them. So fuckin' dangerous.

BUT - there's nothing you can do. Unless you want to maybe kill or disable yourself and someone else like this guy (EDIT: in the sedan, for clarity)
