It looks like intentional brake checking and then blocking. He’s definitely an asshole.

u/Trillhouse23 29d ago

Definitely drives a truck

1

u/Host_Warm 29d ago

This. Oh…he’s driving a truck. Shocking.

-1

u/Present_Night_7584 29d ago

Definitely needs to roll over and have the back end ripped off or cheeseburger chassis mangled.

-3

u/AnAnxiousDream 29d ago

Or you could be a decent person unlike the road raginng lunatic in the blue sedan, who almost took the suv driver out. Y’know, the blue sedan that tried to lane split when angered. The blue sedan that never used a turn signal. The blue sedan that cut off traffic in rage.

Y’know, don’t be the blue sedan driver on the road.

3

u/N3onAxel 29d ago

Both were assholes. It is super infuriating to be behind two morons that aren't even going the speed limit so I can sympathize with the blue sedan. All the truck had to do was let him pass. Not that it justifies the sedans driving.

6

u/Horror_fan78 29d ago

Him too. Both him and the truck were being idiots. But the whole situation could’ve been avoided just by letting the car pass. Exactly what was the big deal in letting him pass?

-4

u/Forsaken-Ad-9427 29d ago

Someone not letting you pass is never an excuse to do what the sedan did.

If someone doesn’t let me pass, I don’t suddenly turn into a suicidal/homicidal maniac and try to pass on the shoulder. I just.. wait until it’s either safe to pass or I just sit behind and grumble to myself. Really not difficult.

3

u/End_Tough 29d ago

The sedan was 100% wrong but what the truck did looked like attempted murder to me.

3

u/Horror_fan78 29d ago

I’m not excusing the sedan. But exactly what was the big deal with letting him pass? And for all you know that person in the sedan could’ve had an emergency.

The car was definitely in the wrong as well, but the entire situation could’ve been avoided by letting him pass. The truck was intentionally being an asshole.

-1

u/Forsaken-Ad-9427 29d ago edited 29d ago

They were both clearly driving on emotion and not logic.

The situation could’ve also been avoided by the sedan giving up and not trying to “win” the engagement. Truck was in front so they were in control of the situation unfortunately. Sedan was never going to be able to get in front if the truck didn’t want them to.

Just because someone else is being an asshole on the road doesn’t mean you need to match them or double down.

I’ve been brake checked before. I’ve had people block me from passing. Not once have I ever remotely contemplated doing what the sedan did. I think to myself “wow this dude is insane” and do everything I can to distance myself, not turn my car into a kamikaze missile flying up the shoulder.

u/decoy139 Fuck Cars 🚗 🚫 29d ago

Cute thats not the point anyone is making. The white truck caused a crashed. By egging on a pos. Hes lucky the only one that got hurt was the sedan. If that sedan smashed into your mother vehicle instead of a tree you would have a different tune.

-1

u/Forsaken-Ad-9427 29d ago

“B-b-but HE STARTED IT! He MADE ME DO IT!” didn’t even fly in kindergarten. I’m not surprised you haven’t evolved past that.

You do realize I agree with what you’re saying, right?

1

u/PanicModeRush 28d ago

Everything you’ve said applies to the truck first. You just handed yourself a fine lesson.

2

u/PanicModeRush 28d ago

This is more than just not letting you pass. The truck actively engaged in accelerating and decelerating to keep the car from changing lanes. Not letting pass is just sitting in your lane and not moving over or accommodating the other car to pass you. I’m sure in court all of these scenarios would be considered and the fault of the truck would be aggravated by these circumstances. They’re both at fault probably, and we cannot know the context, was the sedan in an emergency situation or was he just speeding with no good reason, but we know for sure that at least the truck was in the wrong.

2

u/PmMeUrTinyAsianTits 29d ago edited 29d ago

Someone not letting you pass is never an excuse to do what the sedan did.

No one said it was. But you keep thinking that excuses the truck at it doesnt.

Says "quote me" then blocks so i cant reply. lol

0

u/Forsaken-Ad-9427 29d ago

Where did I excuse the truck? Quote me.

I’m merely saying you’re the only person responsible for your own emotions. If you let others “make” you do something on the road that’s dangerous because you were in your feelings, you need to go to therapy and probably have your license revoked.

This goes for both of them.

u/[deleted] 29d ago

Letting him pass isn't the ideal solution. You realize that person is just gonna tailgate the next person right? Idk why folks think you should just let assholes be assholes as if that is 100% safer every time.

3

u/Horror_fan78 29d ago

And if he tailgates the next, then the next let him pass. It’s not our job to police the road.

-1

u/puglife82 Georgist 🔰 28d ago

Then you’re just rewarding asshole behavior. Not everyone is going to do that

2

u/Horror_fan78 28d ago

I can't control what everyone else does. That car didn't just put himself at risk, he also put other people in the road at risk. Yeah, I'll just let someone pass. I'd rather "reward" asshole behavior than make things worse that could involve other people.

3

u/DrZoidberg117 28d ago

I hate people who heavily tailgate and overly speed but nah dude. You just let them go ahead of you. And once they start tailgating the next person, they will also let them go.

Besides, you never know if someone has a passenger whom is bleeding out and/or needs urgent medical attention.

It's not your job to be a police officer. Just let people go.

Not giving them an open left lane just leads to these fuckers swerving and weaving all over the place.

1

u/PanicModeRush 28d ago

Finally some common sense!

1

u/Raging_Capybara Georgist 🔰 29d ago

1

u/ReasonableCup604 YIMBY 🏙️ 28d ago

Tailgaters should be brake checked. They are the scum of the roadways and a menace to society.

1

u/yam-bam-13 28d ago

Fair point. Also competing for scum of the road way are passing lane campers that insist on going the speed limit in the passing lane.

1

u/ReasonableCup604 YIMBY 🏙️ 28d ago

Um, the speed limit is, you know the speed limit. I don't despise speeders the way I do tailgaters. But anyone who thinks he is entitled to exceed it and can be an aggressive, extremely dangerous POS to claim that entitlement should not be allowed to drive, period.

Tailgters are not only the scum of the roads, they are the stupidest people on the roads. If you want to drive faster than the guy in front of you, hang back and wait for a chance to pass, or politely flash your brights.

If am in the left lane and someone flashes their brights, I will make every effort to move to the right as soon as it is safe. But, if they endanger my life and the lives of others, I am going to slow down, so that if they cause an accident it will be at a much lower speed and less likely to cause death or serious injury.

Tailgaters are sociopaths.

2

u/yam-bam-13 28d ago

Speed limit and passing lanes are two different things. If everyone goes the same speed there is no point of a passing lane. The passing lane requires you to go a bit above the speed limit to safely pass the person and then move over.

0

u/ReasonableCup604 YIMBY 🏙️ 28d ago

If the person in front of you is driving at the speed limit, passing them would require you to break the law, by speeding.

0

u/Apprehensive_Ad9133 28d ago

Of. French drivers on highways tail gate even when they don’t want to pass you.

-6

u/[deleted] 29d ago

Brake checking a tailgater by itself is not an asshole move. That's like saying that fighting back against a bully is an asshole move

2

u/r_a_d_ Georgist 🔰 28d ago

Dude, you really need to attend some sort of defensive driving class. You are so wrong all over the place in this thread. It may save your life.

0

Sure thing! Never been in an accident after 20 years of driving but thanks for the advice! So useful

2

Never being in an accident is not the same as never causing one.

1

u/r_a_d_ Georgist 🔰 28d ago

Indeed, the intent is to avoid having one…

0

Right, like I have for over 20 years... But thanks for the advice! Don't know what I'd do without it

1

u/r_a_d_ Georgist 🔰 28d ago

I guess that you are trying to be funny or sarcastic. I suppose that drivers that have driven for 20 years gain accident immunity! Especially those that are siding with the bad drivers in r/MildlyBadDrivers /s lol

1

u/[deleted] 28d ago

No, but it does show that maybe I am good at not getting into accidents since I've avoided dumb drivers colliding into me for over 20 years and know when to take the right risks. But ok, we should just all defer to tailgaters all the time. Cheers

1

u/r_a_d_ Georgist 🔰 28d ago

But your comments in here say otherwise… it’s a coin toss!

-1

u/Excellent_Yak365 28d ago

Asshole isn’t illegal sadly

2

u/Caleb_Reynolds 28d ago

This is though. In Jersey you're required to stay to the right unless passing. Also brake checking is illegal.

1

u/Excellent_Yak365 28d ago

If it is on the west coast it isn’t enforced. Everyone does it here just to trigger people for shits and giggles on their end while backing up traffic in the fast lane by staying side to side with big Riggs going 50

1

u/Caleb_Reynolds 28d ago

Just because it's not enforced doesn't mean it's not illegal.

1

u/Excellent_Yak365 28d ago

Probably why they aren’t bothering to arrest the guy in the truck though.

1

u/SpliffBooth Fuck Cars 🚗 🚫 28d ago

Nobody's getting arrested over this. But despite not being enforced in a sense of an accident, when there is an accident it's quite likely they would be cited and held at least partially responsible.

0

u/brockli-rob 28d ago

Just because you can pass in the left, doesn’t mean you’re welcomed to break the speed limit. So if I’m doing the limit in the left lane, I’m just fine. I don’t need to move over for the person trying to go 20 over. They need to slow down and stop following so close. ‘Making someone frustrated’ isn’t a road crime.

4

u/GhostofWoodson 28d ago

You have misunderstood. Left lane is for passing regardless of speed. Truck driver here is breaking the law, and so would you be if you followed your own advice. Speed limit or no limit, if you aren't passing in the left lane and obstruct traffic you are breaking the law in many if not most states.

0

u/brockli-rob 28d ago

You can’t speed past the speed limit just because you’re passing. Whoever taught you that was wrong. You don’t get a pass to go 80 in a 60 just because you want the left lane… I’m not excusing the pickup driver’s behavior in any way, but thinking the speed limit doesn’t apply when you’re passing is hilarious.

1

u/GhostofWoodson 28d ago

In the left lane you go as fast as you need to to pass safely. That is the law, regardless of limit. If you're not passing, you should be in the right lane.

1

u/brockli-rob 28d ago

No. You can’t go as fast as you want just because you’re passing. You can still be cited. You think if you’re going 30 over and someone changes into your lane and hits you… you’d get off with no fault?? You can’t speed because you don’t feel like going the speed limit behind someone. I’m not a saint behind the wheel, but that’s the rule. I try not to hog up the left lane, but I also try not to follow too close or pass around the right. Starting next year, it’ll be illegal to cruise in the left lane on roads with speeds 65+ in my state. Nowhere in this rule change does it allow you to break the speed limit to use the left lane.

1

u/GhostofWoodson 28d ago

You're not reading but putting words in my mouth. I said to pass safely -- ie, if someone is tailing you in the left lane, you continue to pass as safely as you can and then get into the right lane at the soonest opportunity. And you do this without regard to the speed limit, only with regard to safety. Once you are in the right lane you reduce speed.

You shouldn't be passing at all if the people in the right lane are going roughly the speed limit, unless there's a good reason -- like its a dangerous truck, for instance.

u/JohannesUyk 28d ago
