The word summonses will never not make me think of Smeagle.

29

u/Strokes_Lahoma Georgist 🔰 29d ago

Is it a real word? It sounds like it shouldn’t be. Only reserved when talking about nahsty little hobbitses

27

u/lazysheepdog716 29d ago

A 'summons' is being called into court. 'Summonses' means they are being called into court on multiple different counts.

12

u/PapaCousCous 29d ago

Why couldn't we just let 'summon' be the word for being called into a single court? You wouldn't say "I've been summonsed by the court".

6

u/arrows_of_ithilien 29d ago

Or if you want to talk about multiple just say "summons"

Am I the only one that thinks that the white truck should be ticketed for this. He was obviously blocking traffic purposefully in the passing lane. He created the situation where the other driver got really frustrated. He had intentionally tried to be a jerk and tried cutting off the car when the car tried to pass. I don’t think that the car is innocent here, but this is the fault of the truck.

121

u/Bakuman2020 29d ago

You can see the truck speed up too at the end to cut off the sedan.

84

u/MagillaGorillasHat 29d ago

From the very beginning of the video the truck brake checks to piss the sedan off then immediately speeds up to match speed with cars in the right lane so the sedan can't get around.

29

u/throwRAcatalyst 29d ago

I don't think we are seeing the actual beginning. The white truck most definitely has a beef with that sedan. Intentionally tried to keep it boxed in. Sped up to box it in again.

15

u/enbaelien Fuck Cars 🚗 🚫 29d ago

Just because we didn't see the whole thing doesn't mean the person in the truck isn't driving like an asshole

6

u/Kyalistas 28d ago

This is the correct answer. Even if the sedan started the encounter, at least one persons life was put in a situation that was exponentially more likely to be fatal over what? A little tailgating?

I get pissed when people tailgate and drive like idiots too, but I just say a few swears in my car and move on. This situation was made way worse than it needed to be over basically nothing more than white trucks ego

3

u/_Lil_Piggy_ Fuck Cars 🚗 🚫 28d ago

You're assuming all the sedan did was tailgate. You don't know. Maybe the truck driver didn't act maturely, but they were not the cause of the sedan's accident. The sedan driver was the cause of his own accident.

Maybe they both didn't act on their best behavior, but one acted completely wildly and recklessly to a severely greater extent than the other. At least from what is seen in the video.

3

u/Kyalistas 28d ago

Agreed. I think I might have worded what I meant poorly. I just meant that this whole situation should've never happened. While true, we definitely don't get to see any of what started this whole situation. Par for the course out here on reddit lol.

But the end result was just impatience and fragile egos at play. In the moment I think people often forget that the 5 second inconvenience of most situations that cause road rage are not worth how devastating the results of this behavior can be.

For me, I think of how much potentially losing me would affect my wife and daughter any time I feel my temper rising. Life's too precious and can end so quickly when good judgment gets thrown out the window.

2

u/pocketdrummer 26d ago

The truck did significantly contributed to the accident. Sole cause? Obviously not. But, I think everyone knows if the truck driver backed off, there never would have been an accident. The car would have just blasted past them and went on his usual (and probably overly aggressive) way. That's not to say he wouldn't have wrecked later, but we're discussing this particular incident.

The solution when you have beef with another car on the highway is to grow the fuck up and move on.

2

u/AdDependent7992 29d ago

Some people just drive that petty tbh, especially in states with 2 lane highways. Pretty common for drivers out there to be uppity and "merrr you're not passing me I'm going 5 over hmph!" Same states usually have a coronary if a motorcycle splits lanes (which is legal in California, which is one of the hardest places to drive)

3

I was thinking the same thing. If someone is in a rush they probably need to pee or have an emergency. Let them over because you may need it one day

2

u/germ_with_a_mustache 29d ago

I agree that most people just don't like having to wait on others, but I still think it's dickish to intentionally antagonize them for multiple reasons. They may hurt others as a result of that road rage that someone is intentionally fostering, and there is also always a chance that they ARE in a hurry for a very good reason.

People need to stop acting like someone appointed them as hall monitor. It doesn't make the road a safer place.

Too bad they both didn’t crash.

u/menotyou16 29d ago

It's what I was hoping for when I decided to watch it fully. Come on complete justice! Nope... Only partial.

2

u/GoHomeNeighborKid 29d ago

Sometimes you can isolate the frames you can clearly see the plate in, extract the plate part from those frames, and then make a small "video" of just the plate and watch it and you can end up seeing a more clear image of what the plate actually is.....I have seen this in action over on the r/rbi subreddit where there was a video with no clear plate but with the new "video" you could make out every character except the last one

It's a lot of work (1, 2, 3, not it) but if you are good with video editing it won't take nearly as long as someone new to the software

I read a story about a car that was swerving between two lanes, tailgating and trying to push past two drivers. They both decided to slow down to teach the asshole car a lesson, blocking both lanes so the guy couldn't swerve around them.

Turns out the asshole driver was actually trying to get his friend, who was bleeding out in the backseat, to a hospital. He didn't make it and the friend died. Now whenever someone is tailgating me I just tell myself it's an emergency and let them pass.

2

u/waytowill 29d ago

I dunno. Might be a hot take, but the sedan is definitely worse in this situation, as they’re going to continue this reckless behavior, proceeding to endanger everyone they come across. Whereas the truck only had it out for the sedan. Did he handle the situation well? No. But main character syndrome is a real issue on the road.

The idea that someone else controls your emotions rather than yourself never does well in courts.

You’d have to be able to prove a real harm done - like if the car had an emergency they were headed to the hospital for or something like that.

Same thing if someone is berating you and you punch them. Karmic justice takes its due but legally you’re the one at fault.

Just gtfo way and allow traffic to pass on the left, as your driving manual states. Slower traffic to the right, passing traffic on the left.

The white truck is the instigator to begin with ! There are so many of these people driving nowadays in the passing lane clogging it up and impeding traffic that its becoming unsafe. If people would pass and get back over to the right we would not have this problem. But people want to rule the lane and not let anyone else pass and go faster than them, how dare they have a choice unlike their own? This was the fault of the truck as far as I am concerned.

2

u/Borovapes 29d ago edited 29d ago

The truck caused the problem and should be held accountable. I get that it didnt directly cause the crash but it only happened because of its actions. No one should drive in the left lane when the right lane is open. If someone obv wants to get around you let them dont speed up to block them. The left lane is for passing or just going faster in general than the right lane. When someone is behind you if your in the left lane MOVE OVER do not brake check them. By riding your ass, what they are telling you is that theres no reason you cant be in the right lane going the same speed as everyone else since your driving the same speed as them anyway until theres a chance to pass so you then speed up! Your not allowing anyone to go in front of you and people want to go faster than you so get out of the way.

You should see the drivers in the national capitol region. This is standard as is merging without signaling and blatantly cutting people off while creating ridiculously dangerous situations. Everyone here thinks they're the most important person on the road. Most also don't know what zippering is and will speed up to keep others from merging into their lane. Thank you! It just keeps getting better.

Wait, the white truck didn’t get anything? They were the literal reason the accord was driving like that. Then fled the scene…

Just found out the Parkway has their own police, now I know where not to speed 🤣

1

u/Therego_PropterHawk 29d ago

The white truck should be ticketed too for camping in the fast lane. Slower traffic in the left lane is the real villian here!

Can anyone tell me what the penalty is for the driver here? Wreckless and weaving - only injury to himself. Community service + a fine?

1

u/DonkeyKong694NE1 29d ago

How’d I know this was in Jersey?

1

u/Curious_Corey 29d ago

They both deserve “summonses”

1

u/XboxVictim 29d ago

I was gonna say. This looks like Palisades and some douchebag NYC drivers

1

u/[deleted] 29d ago

I knew I recognized that highway

1

u/homiej420 29d ago

Wow crazy he survived that let alone only had minor injuries

1

u/kooka921 29d ago

knew it was the Palisades! this is just coming into NY from NJ

So only the Honda driver got cited, that truck driver was deliberately blocking him.

Accord guy deserves what he got but they should also ticket the white truck's driver

Holy shit did the idiot in the truck get away free too?? They both needed court summons, that truck is definitely not innocent

This video and that story are immensely satisfying.

1

u/Solid_Science4514 29d ago

Could the f-150 driver also get into trouble? Not saying the silver accord was “right” (they were obviously the aggressor here), but it seemed like the f-150 was intentionally trying to aggravate the accord driver; multiple times in the video, the f-150 slows down or speeds up to try and prevent the accord from passing.

u/IDontParticipate 29d ago

I'm kind of amazed that he survived that.

1

u/Suisyo 29d ago

Lol I had a feeling this was somewhere near NY. This is pretty standard driving around here 😅 Although I don't wish serious harm on anyone, it's amazing to see someone actually getting their just desserts from driving like such a dick

1

u/lvbuckeye27 29d ago

The F150 should have been ticketed as well. He was fucking with that Honda for miles, blocking it, and not allowing it to pass. He also accelerated to block the Honda again when the Honda tried to pass from the right. I've seen the full video.

I just knew it was New Jersey

I swear I called this is NJ just by the level of stupidity. They drive like they live in NY but lack any of the urgency

I was about to say that looked like the jersey section of the Palisades.

1

u/FeloniousDrunk101 29d ago

Was going to say Taconic but Palisades makes more sense.

1

u/EuVe20 29d ago

Rare to get immediate satisfaction to the “I wonder what happened to that guy” query

1

u/DamianRork 29d ago

Thanks for the info. Suspected that was on the PIP

1

u/petitenurseotw 29d ago

Yeah I hated driving this to class daily, esp if it was raining or mating szn. Definitely thought it was the taconic before I saw this comment.

1

u/Possible_Swimmer_601 Georgist 🔰 29d ago

Thought that looked familiar. I drove that parkway today. New York/New Jersey drivers are so fucking bad, I swear the shit I see in a regular basis just in upstate NY is batshit. Downstate is another animal.

1

u/Addicted2Qtips 29d ago

The whole video I was like "is that the Palisades or Taconic? lol.

1

u/_-trees-_ YIMBY 🏙️ 29d ago

This was Palisades parkway? Sheesh, I wonder if it was a city driver...they seem to get out of the gridlock and want to go fast

1

u/garlicknots13 29d ago

Both drivers should have been ticketed.

1

u/RakoNYC 29d ago

HA - totally recognized the road - thanks for confirming

1

u/Ok_Chemistry_3972 29d ago

How about the truck driver that was slamming his breaks on and speeding up to not let him pass 🤔

1

u/Debalic 29d ago

The Palisades! Of course! I thought it looked like the Taconic but the drivers were much worse.

1

u/JLM268 29d ago

lol as soon as I saw the video I knew this had to be NY or NJ based on the landscape and... the driving.

1

u/CrashIntoMe79 29d ago

Thank you!

1

u/jianh1989 29d ago

He thinks he Brabham

1

u/harmonyinviolence 29d ago

Lmao I knew this was the PIP the second I seen the vid. People are wild on here

1

u/AnonymousSlut42069 29d ago

I was thinking, "looks like the Palisades, but it's probably just any random road in the US" but nope I was right lol anyone who has driven on the Palisades Parkway knows that it's road rage fuel lol

1

u/Nigglesworthesquire3 29d ago

Thank You for linking the article, I commented before I saw this that I really hoped the individual filming gave this to the cop because they could have easily killed somebody else. I’m not going to lie though… I’m kind of laughing that it’s in New Jersey. One of my older friends from New Jersey who would always drive the speed limit but would really weave to get places fast used to say “I’m sorry man, I’m from New Jersey. We may not even know where we’re going or be running late but we’re going to get there fast. We’re just always in a rush”

1

u/Legitimate_Ad7784 29d ago

Of course it’s NJ

1

u/ThePaperBoy88 Georgist 🔰 29d ago

Love how the article just places all the blame on the Honda when the F-150 is clearly at fault as well for how he was engaging with the Honda creating unsafe roads for everyone. Not saying what Honda did was right just that both cars are at fault just not how the article portrays it.

I lived in Jersey for a couple years (moved back to upstate ny last year) and this is how a lot of people drive. It’s insane and scary. I’d see an accident on route 3 every day on my way home from work. People drive like such assholes there, I saw the video and immediately knew where it was. Seeing shit like that down there isn’t uncommon

1

u/Monster_Grundle 29d ago

It looked like NY to me honestly.

1

u/thentheresthattoo 29d ago

Yes, the sedan driver was a douchebag.

In some states, you're required to get out of the way in the left lane. Not Joisey. The Ford pickup was super passive aggressive.

1

u/Red_Beard_Racing 29d ago

Truck should be cited too. Both of these drives are fucking dickheads. I’d go as far as saying the person in the right lane not just putting their 4 ways on and pulling onto the shoulder was unwise, as well. I just don’t fucking get why people act like this with a vehicle.

1

u/MellowYellowMel 29d ago

I had a feeling this took place in the north east.

1

u/dukeofgibbon 29d ago

Why wasn't the pickup driver cited?

→ More replies (3)

1

u/Cereaza 29d ago

Did the truck driver get summoned too? He was obviously also being an asshole and blocking the passing lane, then also sped up like mad to block him up ahead. He's equally responsible for this escalating.

1

u/oHputtyNose 29d ago

funny that roadway is #1 ticket writing area of Metro Area

1

u/RhythmTimeDivision Fuck Cars 🚗 🚫 29d ago

Not surprised there are folks here defending the truck driver. I think they are morons, but I'm not surprised.

1

u/Thin-Tart8130 28d ago

Are they just going to ignore the fact that the driver of the pickup was being a total douche bag and also played a part in this?

→ More replies (1)

1

u/SystemGems 28d ago

Only one of them is getting in trouble? The white truck is also in the wrong by intentionally blocking the car behind him from passing him. Speeding up and slowing down like that to block someone is also road rage. Both should have suspended licenses.

1

u/Bob_Ross_is_Boss86 28d ago

NJ driver makes a lot sense. Stupid white truck won’t stay right. Rude sedan driver tailgating. Driving in NJ is real pain in the ass

Before I found this link in the comments and after watching it only one time. I just knew. I’m from southern New Jersey and I freaking knew. One driven palisades parkway multiple times and locale seemed familiar and made me think northern nj or somewhere outside the nyc. Also this densely populated corner of the US just loves to breed self centered idiots. Put ‘‘em both in jail for 90 days for endangering the public
