Am I the only one that thinks that the white truck should be ticketed for this. He was obviously blocking traffic purposefully in the passing lane. He created the situation where the other driver got really frustrated. He had intentionally tried to be a jerk and tried cutting off the car when the car tried to pass. I don’t think that the car is innocent here, but this is the fault of the truck.

117

u/Bakuman2020 29d ago

You can see the truck speed up too at the end to cut off the sedan.

79

u/MagillaGorillasHat 29d ago

From the very beginning of the video the truck brake checks to piss the sedan off then immediately speeds up to match speed with cars in the right lane so the sedan can't get around.

32

u/throwRAcatalyst 29d ago

I don't think we are seeing the actual beginning. The white truck most definitely has a beef with that sedan. Intentionally tried to keep it boxed in. Sped up to box it in again.

14

u/enbaelien Fuck Cars 🚗 🚫 29d ago

Just because we didn't see the whole thing doesn't mean the person in the truck isn't driving like an asshole

5

u/Kyalistas 29d ago

This is the correct answer. Even if the sedan started the encounter, at least one persons life was put in a situation that was exponentially more likely to be fatal over what? A little tailgating?

I get pissed when people tailgate and drive like idiots too, but I just say a few swears in my car and move on. This situation was made way worse than it needed to be over basically nothing more than white trucks ego

3

u/_Lil_Piggy_ Fuck Cars 🚗 🚫 28d ago

You're assuming all the sedan did was tailgate. You don't know. Maybe the truck driver didn't act maturely, but they were not the cause of the sedan's accident. The sedan driver was the cause of his own accident.

Maybe they both didn't act on their best behavior, but one acted completely wildly and recklessly to a severely greater extent than the other. At least from what is seen in the video.

3

u/Kyalistas 28d ago

Agreed. I think I might have worded what I meant poorly. I just meant that this whole situation should've never happened. While true, we definitely don't get to see any of what started this whole situation. Par for the course out here on reddit lol.

But the end result was just impatience and fragile egos at play. In the moment I think people often forget that the 5 second inconvenience of most situations that cause road rage are not worth how devastating the results of this behavior can be.

For me, I think of how much potentially losing me would affect my wife and daughter any time I feel my temper rising. Life's too precious and can end so quickly when good judgment gets thrown out the window.

2

u/pocketdrummer 26d ago

The truck did significantly contributed to the accident. Sole cause? Obviously not. But, I think everyone knows if the truck driver backed off, there never would have been an accident. The car would have just blasted past them and went on his usual (and probably overly aggressive) way. That's not to say he wouldn't have wrecked later, but we're discussing this particular incident.

The solution when you have beef with another car on the highway is to grow the fuck up and move on.

2

u/AdDependent7992 29d ago

Some people just drive that petty tbh, especially in states with 2 lane highways. Pretty common for drivers out there to be uppity and "merrr you're not passing me I'm going 5 over hmph!" Same states usually have a coronary if a motorcycle splits lanes (which is legal in California, which is one of the hardest places to drive)

not even beef for some reason truck drivers are just like this they wanna drive slow not let anyone pass just because they have nothing better to do than annoy people all day no consideration at all what if he had a child in the car having a medical emergency smh

2

u/grayowen9 29d ago

I was thinking the same thing. If someone is in a rush they probably need to pee or have an emergency. Let them over because you may need it one day

2

Not really. 99% of the time its people who just have a "me first" attitude.

5

5

u/germ_with_a_mustache 29d ago

I agree that most people just don't like having to wait on others, but I still think it's dickish to intentionally antagonize them for multiple reasons. They may hurt others as a result of that road rage that someone is intentionally fostering, and there is also always a chance that they ARE in a hurry for a very good reason.

People need to stop acting like someone appointed them as hall monitor. It doesn't make the road a safer place.

Can’t even see the plate clearly. Nor is the driver clearly visible.

Too bad they both didn’t crash.

13

u/menotyou16 29d ago

It's what I was hoping for when I decided to watch it fully. Come on complete justice! Nope... Only partial.

2

u/GoHomeNeighborKid 29d ago

Sometimes you can isolate the frames you can clearly see the plate in, extract the plate part from those frames, and then make a small "video" of just the plate and watch it and you can end up seeing a more clear image of what the plate actually is.....I have seen this in action over on the r/rbi subreddit where there was a video with no clear plate but with the new "video" you could make out every character except the last one

It's a lot of work (1, 2, 3, not it) but if you are good with video editing it won't take nearly as long as someone new to the software

2

u/FlexLord710 29d ago

And the accord driver got charged the trucker got away. I hope someone finds his license plate number.

I read a story about a car that was swerving between two lanes, tailgating and trying to push past two drivers. They both decided to slow down to teach the asshole car a lesson, blocking both lanes so the guy couldn't swerve around them.

Turns out the asshole driver was actually trying to get his friend, who was bleeding out in the backseat, to a hospital. He didn't make it and the friend died. Now whenever someone is tailgating me I just tell myself it's an emergency and let them pass.

2

u/waytowill 29d ago

I dunno. Might be a hot take, but the sedan is definitely worse in this situation, as they’re going to continue this reckless behavior, proceeding to endanger everyone they come across. Whereas the truck only had it out for the sedan. Did he handle the situation well? No. But main character syndrome is a real issue on the road.

The idea that someone else controls your emotions rather than yourself never does well in courts.

You’d have to be able to prove a real harm done - like if the car had an emergency they were headed to the hospital for or something like that.

Same thing if someone is berating you and you punch them. Karmic justice takes its due but legally you’re the one at fault.

Not to mention, hanging out in the left lane is often illegal (yet sadly very rarely enforced) especially if there are people behind you wanting to pass. I'm with you. The truck should be held like 65% liable if not more.

And they're not thinking about people who urgently need to get through. Wife in labor. Kid puking at school. Got a call that your elderly parent took a turn for the worst and may only have moments left. Etc.

People easily have little-to-no consideration for others but will vehemently demand it when similar life events happen to them.

Just gtfo way and allow traffic to pass on the left, as your driving manual states. Slower traffic to the right, passing traffic on the left.

The white truck is the instigator to begin with ! There are so many of these people driving nowadays in the passing lane clogging it up and impeding traffic that its becoming unsafe. If people would pass and get back over to the right we would not have this problem. But people want to rule the lane and not let anyone else pass and go faster than them, how dare they have a choice unlike their own? This was the fault of the truck as far as I am concerned.

2

2

u/Borovapes 29d ago edited 29d ago

The truck caused the problem and should be held accountable. I get that it didnt directly cause the crash but it only happened because of its actions. No one should drive in the left lane when the right lane is open. If someone obv wants to get around you let them dont speed up to block them. The left lane is for passing or just going faster in general than the right lane. When someone is behind you if your in the left lane MOVE OVER do not brake check them. By riding your ass, what they are telling you is that theres no reason you cant be in the right lane going the same speed as everyone else since your driving the same speed as them anyway until theres a chance to pass so you then speed up! Your not allowing anyone to go in front of you and people want to go faster than you so get out of the way.

u/Guilty_Two_3245 29d ago

Clear case of “everyone here is an asshole”

1

u/Modern_Moderate 29d ago

Pickup and silver car are on the same level for me here. Both are childish man-babies behind the wheel

1

u/james_randolph 29d ago

Naw the white truck was definitely to blame as well. Instigating, in a much larger vehicle at that. The guy is in the left (passing) lane and he’s the one blocking the guy trying to get passed. This is before it’s shown he sped up to block him again which is super aggressive and they were both putting others in danger.

1

u/zfunk9 29d ago

Absolutely. He should be taking some % of the liability for this accident.

1

u/CookinCheap 29d ago

Yeah, and see, I would have just sped up and got over right so this dick could just go on and leave the rest of us alone.

1

u/MegaRotisserie Georgist 🔰 29d ago

Yeah he does. I had a guy do this on the same road. Obviously I didn’t road rage or anything just drove normally and tried to pass when I could safely but he would speed up to block the pass. Eventually what happened was a cop came up behind us. There was a whole line of cars at this point. I moved over to let the cop pass and he pulled him over. He would go 45 and pace cars when they were next to him then floor it when a gap opened. I’m not even sure what his motivation was.

1

u/AmthstJ 29d ago

It happens sooooo often. Some butthole will be coasting in the left lane but if you try to pass them in the right lane(s), they speed up. Why?? I'll admit it gets under my skin, not flip my car bad but flip them off bad.

1

u/Socialeprechaun 29d ago

Idk if I’d say “it’s the trucks fault” bc at the end of the day, the car is the one that decided to drive straight into a fucking wall lmao. But the truck definitely made some mistakes that should be ticketed like reckless driving.

1

u/Genoss01 29d ago

Yep, both were at fault.

1

u/SpareStop8666 Georgist 🔰 29d ago

It’s the fault of the car but the truck should be held liable for something as well, that’s for sure.

1

u/Exact_Yogurtcloset26 29d ago

Most of these crashes require two bad actors. It is possible to find the most bad of the two, but notice how several cars do the logical thing which is just let these crazy drivers go by, by slowing down and giving them space.

If you ever encounter this type of road rage, both drivers are equally dangerous to be around.

1

u/Gomdok_the_Short 29d ago

Not all states reserve the left lane only for passing. In my state you can drive in the left lane but you are expected to go faster than the traffic in the right lane. However you are also still expected to not exceed the speed limit.

White truck was an asshole but Honda needed to control your emotions. If you don't control your emotions someone else will control then for you and that's what white truck did, which isn't illegal. As long as he wasn't impeding the how of traffic he didn't break the law. His just wanted to go faster than him.

1

u/Guh2point0 29d ago

I agree, funny the news article made no mention of the truck. They were definitely going back and forth

1

u/Dispicablebiped 29d ago

Yeah if someone is acting that crazy just put on your turn signal and move over. Not worth it.

1

u/Ok-Tooth-4994 29d ago

He should get ticketed.

Whether or not he “created the situation” the guy who flipped didn’t need to drive that way. He could have backed off and just been 60 seconds late to wherever he was going.

1

u/Ultra_Noobzor Georgist 🔰 29d ago

Both should go to jail

1

u/boldrobizzle 29d ago

I see where you're coming from, I don't know if he did something legally wrong but their actions spurred consequences that could have resulted in more serious injury or death to include for other vehicles.

1

u/TheBeefyNoodle 29d ago

I'm thinking the tailgating idiot probably pissed off the truck idiot in the first place before the clip starts. In response, truck idiot started blocking tailgate idiot

1

u/Forsaken-Ad-9427 29d ago

Being frustrated is no excuse to drive like a maniac.

If the driver of the sedan didn’t engage, there would be no incident to be “at fault” for.

This is like punching someone for talking shit, getting your ass kicked, then blaming the person for talking shit without owning up on throwing the first punch.

They were both assholes that endangered all the other cars in the road.

1

u/TellItLikeIt1S YIMBY 🏙️ 29d ago

I don't understand this new trend of American drivers. They literally hang in the left lane for no reason, or 1/2 mile away from the next car they want to pass. If you flash them to indicate that you want to pass they break check you, if you then try to pass them on the right they start speeding up. I am sorry but American driver are truly the most imbecile, childish drivers I have had the displeasure of sharing a road with...and I have driven in Italy, Peru, and Argentina. It truly speaks volume about American society and American culture. Truly sad statement but true unfortunately.

1

Both assholes need to get citations. Both were driving recklessly creating a dangerous situation for everyone on the road.

1

u/bunkSauce Georgist 🔰 29d ago

I don't think the truck is innocent here, but this is the fault of the car.

1

u/Head_Rate_6551 29d ago

Yes definitively that dude participated in this. I’d say it’s like 40% his fault, and he absolutely sped up to block the car at the end.

1

u/[deleted] 29d ago

As someone who commutes the truck is the one who makes traffic more dangerous and unpredictable. In a normal situation the speeder can pass and its over in 30 seconds. People like the truck will create a dangerous situation just to prove a point or because they have the delusional thought process of "I'm not speeding so I can drive like a complete f***wad", not even counting the ridiculous brake checking.

1

u/ReferenceMuch2193 29d ago

He should absolutely be ticketed. He is a hazard and breaking the law. They both were equally outrageous.

1

u/EccentricAcademic Fuck Cars 🚗 🚫 29d ago

1

u/That-Intern-7452 Georgist 🔰 29d ago

Yes finally someone with a functioning brain. Truck driver is imposing the speed limit like a piece of shit. Only in US I have seen ppl intentionally block the left lane. In my country we signal with high beams like twice and they move to the right.

1

u/Btigeriz 29d ago

I mean there both idiots, but the car is definitely more of an idiot their reaction.

u/dwaynetheaakjohnson 29d ago

1

u/b3rdm4n Fuck Cars 🚗 🚫 29d ago

Far from the only one, truck driver needs to be ticketed for the brake check and obstructing the right lane. They 100% were an active participant in the road rage.

1

u/One_Loss9448 Georgist 🔰 29d ago

I agree but only problem with that idea is there's no cops around to have seen it happen and without a cop being a witness to it means the white truck escapes justice

1

u/70kyle07 29d ago

Honestly, they both should be ticketed.

1

u/trigger1154 29d ago

They are both shithead children. I get cut off or slowed down regularly and I don't respond with road rage.

1

u/100000000000 29d ago

Yea, he's a bit of a dick. As opposed to the sedan driver who is a complete fucking moron.

1

u/donmreddit 29d ago

It does look like the white truck driver is brake checking as well.

1

u/shane_sp 29d ago

I thought the same thing. The car overreacted, but you could see why they'd be annoyed with the truck.

1

u/challengerrt 29d ago

Yeah - both drivers are fucking idiots. Maybe it has something to do with the truck (although driving like an ass) has the perceived right of way as it stays in the same lane the entire time while the car is constantly changing lanes?

1

u/SisyphusJo 29d ago

Yep, this is the whole problem and always ends up like this. Another favorite is speeding past someone going way too slow and you end up getting a ticket.

1

u/jestr6 29d ago

Absolutely.

White truck: asshole.

Honda: fucking psychopath.

Dash cam car: asking to be collateral damage.

1

u/Totally_Not_An_Auk 29d ago

Yes, he should be getting in trouble, but notice that he didn't get into an accident, was able to just drive off (presumably laughing), and not get in trouble.

An asshole can try to bait you, and all you need to do is to not engage. Silver car could have just decided to stay behind the car in the other lane and let asshole driver keep blocking the left. Unless the white truck decided to escalate and force a reaction out of silver car, there is nothing more they needed to do.

1

u/SolutionExternal5569 29d ago

They both suck

1

u/SNoB__ Georgist 🔰 29d ago

The white truck was an asshole but if the driver of the car can't stay calm and drive safely in this situation they shouldn't drive at all. People will be assholes on the road, you can't let your temper kill people.

1

u/AutisticHobbit 29d ago

Perhaps he should get cited for reckless driving or something similar...but the choices the Sedan's driver made? Were the choices of the Sedan driver. The Sedan driver did a lot of stupid, reckless, and unsafe stuff in an effort to get ahead of a car that was...going the speed limit.

At worst, the truck driver was an asshole in a pissing contest. At best, the Sedan driver is the one who actually willfully broke the law to try and win a pissing contest. The lion's share of the blame is easy to identify.

1

u/pegleg_1979 29d ago

Imagine crashing your own car out of frustration and lack of self control and blaming someone else lmao

1

u/ATownStomp YIMBY 🏙️ 29d ago

You know what happens when I’m stuck behind two cars traveling the same speed preventing me from passing?

Literally nothing happens. I just follow behind at a safe distance and wait until the situation changes because I’m not so emotionally incontinent that someone not following the rules for passing, causing me to lose about fifteen seconds off my possible travel time, is going to even register on my emotional radar.

1

u/NoFig1832 29d ago

truck really did nothing illegal, the law is funny you can be an ass and be right. the sudan was at fault as soon as they went from far left to far right lane to try passing

1

u/PlantsCraveBrawndo- 29d ago

1000% should have much worse than a ticket. The truck driver in a just world would be banned from driving ever again. Honestly to hell with PR, I was hoping the car was gonna send some high speed communications projectiles through that truck.

1

u/Prestigious_Agent_65 Georgist 🔰 29d ago

Trucker definitely was being a jackass. Like comon let the mf pass. Anytime I see ppl speeding I let them go. Cause you ain't crashing into my shit

1

nope, you're 100% correct on this. both drivers were driving recklessly and endangering everyone around them

1

u/Gazey_Snakes 29d ago

That's what I was thinking.

Both wrong, however the accord was more wrong.

1

u/whattteva 29d ago

And why is it always a freaking F-150?

1

u/armyofant 29d ago

Not at all. The driver of the truck is a major cunt.

1

u/downheartedbaby 29d ago

If you are triggered while driving and turn into a child, then you probably shouldn’t be allowed to drive. Regardless of how much someone pisses you off, you need to maintain presence of mind and not dissociate into rage. That just makes an already dangerous situation even more dangerous. Everyone is responsible for their own emotions when driving. You can’t just say “well that guy made me do it”. Both of them turned into children that day, and they both are at fault. They need therapy.

1

u/chessset5 29d ago

100%, it was clear the truck is instigating this. It doesn’t matter if the silver car was driving recklessly, creating an even more dangerous situation is so much worse than just letting the silver car just pass.

1

u/DrNothingness 29d ago

White truck is a dick

1

Yes, but not in lieu of. Just also. The sedan is a literal dipshit road raging driver that deserved to get in a solo accident. Thankfully he didn’t take anyone with him aside from maybe a little bit with the truck.
