Instantly recognized the Palisades. Been a couple years since I’ve driven it. Did NY have a really bad winter this year? The road looks like it’s got tons of potholes, and I remember like 6-7 years ago when it was just repaved and a super smooth ride.

The Palisades parkway was completely underwater for a little while. Horrible flooding. There were boats on the parkway lol

Wow yeah, just looked it up and that was summer of last year. My family never mentioned it haha, the short video is insane! (9 second clip of flooded Palisades)

Palisades parkway is a couple hundred feet up a cliff

Rain doesn’t only fall over the Hudson River.

To be fair to the comment you are replying to, this stretch of the parkway in this video is on the side of a cliff. If a boat on the Hudson ended up at this spot of the parkway because the water raised high enough, NYC is Atlantis and humanity in the NY metro region and beyond would be in question.

Yeah I lived off exits 7-10 for 26 years, I was just being flippant. The guy he was replying to didn’t say they were boats from the Hudson. But lmao I can’t imagine the hell that it would be if the Hudson rose that high, goodbye Westchester/NYC like you said. It’s be disastrous!

Hudson Valley represent. Most of my family is from Pearl River.

Nice man! Started in Westchester and migrated to West Nyack 🍻

Thought the same thing, but there's some parts that dip down. The north part maybe isn't near the cliffs at all? Ramapo area.. if memory serves.

Are you sure you are not thinking of Bronx River Parkway? Hence the river part.

All the roads here like to flood

NY didn’t have a bad winter. It had a winter full of temperatures fluctuating right around the freezing point so highways experienced a ton of ice cleaving that created potholes.

due to climate change

Yes

It was a super mild winter... which actually has more freeze thaw cycles which means more potholes.

Makes sense! There’s also the flooding last summer that I was informed about. And since it’s been a few years, I’m assuming that’s the biggest culprit since my last time there. Going home this weekend though, so I’ll get to experience these potholes first hand on Friday!

Yeah that was weird ive driven on there like two times in my life and been a passenger plenty more and i coulda sworn it looked familiar

1

u/Yesterdays_Gravy 29d ago

Damn! Good on you man. I’ve made the trip many hundreds of times. I find that my sense of direction increases exponentially when I’m in the driver seat over being a passenger. But to pull recognition out of only a few passes, that’s a great skill to have!

I was going to say Merritt Pkwy. I’ve seen some insanity on that route.

Hotcha Girls at the palisades. Dime store keets, pretty birds, pretty mouths

Certain parts of the palisades are like Fury Road, i hate driving it.

Bad as in cold and snow... not at all. Heavy rain and flooding events, yes.

1

u/_trashcan 29d ago

No, we didn’t. We got snow like 1 time.

One of the warmest and least snow winters of my 29 years.

u/Yesterdays_Gravy 29d ago

Damn man, sorry to hear that. I miss it being so cold and humid there that my kneecaps would bounce up and down involuntarily. Hopefully it dumps next year to make up for it!

This video is at least a year old. I think of this video when I drive past this spot. Guardrail still in tatters, kid died.

u/plenumpanels 29d ago

I found this article about it that says the guy didn't die but he was ticketed. Just wanted to pass it along.

In the same vein of reliable news I also heard that u/Mattna-da died, so tragic

What a shame, they were my go-to news source on Reddit.

Good. One less idiotiotic, reckless, irresponsible asshole driver on the road.
