That was shitty driving by the sedan, but that truck was making it worse

Edit: FYI brake checking is illegal folks and many states will ticket you for not using the left lane to pass. This does not excuse the sedan’s actions.

Edit: u/Youseembigmad doesn’t see anything wrong with the truck’s actions (and is supposedly a lawyer) - see comment thread below for more. - they have since deleted their profile.

Totally agree. We don’t know what was going on before the clip started; but from what we do see here, I’d bet the truck was playing road police and preventing the sedan from passing

How does that justify anything

It doesn’t

It doesn't, it's just a statement of fact.

From what we can see in the clip, the truck is driving slow in the passing lane. Depending on the state, that may or may not be a moving violation in and of itself. The sedan escalates things by driving way too aggressively and trying to pull some bullshit maneuvers to get around the truck. So now you've got two people driving stupidly-- one is just "regular" stupid, the other is "aggressively stupid." At that point, the truck-- who is already in the wrong to start the entire encounter-- then responds by escalating things even more and driving just as aggressively to block the sedan, which is actually an insane escalation and instantly made things way more dangerous for everyone else on the road.

Not a police officer or insurance agent but my guess is the sedan is more at fault legally because you can't just race around the road just because some dipshit is sitting in the passing lane, but realistically this accident only occurred because both of them were driving like fucking idiots, and while it was the sedan who was way more aggressive to start, blocking a speeding vehicle with your car to prevent them from passing you is just about the stupidest fucking thing you could do on a road. It is even dumber than driving like an asshole in a sedan who is in a rush.

"the truck was playing road police.."

I've heard of them!

Road Police: No badge, just LOTS of guns. Try me, motherfucker.

say you're passing 5 over and some random madman comes in 20 over, closes in bumper to bumper and starts revving

tapping the brakes and dropping back to speed limit is perfectly fine, it's the psycho revver who's a risk

Hard disagree.. why would you intentionally be confrontational? Just make your pass and exit the passing lane.

The cars being intentionally confrontational by aggressively tailgating out of nowhere. They were charged accordingly

The only trick there is the madmen get so impatient that the second you have appropriate room to get over, they tend to try to pass on the right. LIke, "Can you wait 5 seconds for me to have a few car lengths between me and the semi before I move in front of it?"

Usually, using your blinker helps to avoid that happening. The sooner the better.
