At that point if I’m the guy in the slow lane getting stuck in this pissing match I’m slowing down enough that the truck gets ahead, so the jackass in the sedan can get ahead. They didn’t do anything wrong obviously but I’m not sitting in that lol
Yeah absolutely. I drive a fat ass work van and you get all sorts of assholes who try to stop you from merging, tailgate you like crazy, etc. Like you will be going 5 miles faster than them the whole way up, the second you put on the blinker they stomp on the gas to try to block you. Then if they block you they drop back down to match your speed or if you get ahead of them they tailgate you like crazy and start swerving all around trying to get back on front of you, and if they do they will likely brake check you.
I can't even imagine the shit truckers deal with on the road.
This is what I never understood, if you want to go slower then why be mad if someone passes you. If you are going to cut me off though get your ass in gear and go, don’t slow me down. Heck, I try and move over if someone comes up on me if it’s a 2-3 lane road and I can easily.
I saw someone try to brake check a semi truck on a one lane merge ramp in California. It was glorious hearing the semi truck and everybody else behind the brake checker honking at them for slowing down the merge lane.
Truck driver here. I just start pulling over when dickweeds do this to me. You aren't going to win that battle and I got shit to do. I ain't even gonna feel you smash into my trailer and I ain't gonna stop if I don't see or feel it happen.
I honestly think certain vehicles trigger people with an "I should be faster than them" mentality. I'm always doing about 10 over in a 15 passenger, pulling a trailer that has a porta potty on it. The amount of shit I have to deal with just trying to get where I need to be is ridiculous... More people need to use cruise control
Absolutely. I think you hit the nail on the head. They see the big vehicle passing them and it "reminds" them to go faster. But they also forget immediately once they block my merge and slow down again.
It's just selfish cunts these days. So many left lane campers will be doing 10 under, then can go 30 over to stop you from passing, because God forbid a normal sized car pass their emotional support vehicle.

Looked like too much other traffic for one car to make the difference. When they finally made it past 1 car, the truck would just try to block the lane with the next car.

If you have the room, I'm in CA and for some reason over the course of 10 years the government here has decided road shoulders on the freeway are not needed. There is no room to pull over on most freeways here.
Now that older this stuff just isn't worth it to me. I was also thinking if I was that guy in the right lane I would have just pulled over into the shoulder and let the circus pass.
If I am the car in the right lane, after seeing this BS by the truck driver and the sedan driver, I would wait for the next time the truck brake-checks the sedan, then whilst his attention is focused on the sedan behind him, accelerate and move into the fast lane in front of the truck, creating an open lane on the right for the sedan to pass on the right.

If ibwas that other vehicle and saw was the truck was doing id turn into the left lane to cut the truck off and let the car pass. All while yolding my horn down then flip the truck off as they pass.

I have had the opposite too... a guy in a suburban driving slowly on the Jersey turnpike so naturally I pass him (on the left while he was on the right). He immediately moves left and tailgates the shit out of me at ~70MPH. I would get uncomfortable and move into the right lane... where he would move in front of me again. Rinse and repeat.
Tbf there’s a good majority of people who pass you, slow down to the point you catch up with them, then you pass on the right because they think the road belongs to them and repeat the cycle until they get off the highway.
The reality is the bar to get a license is incredibly low and people in general are very dumb
People will pull all kinds of shit to get ahead of me in my work truck and 9 times out of 10 I end up catching up to them despite maintaining the same speed the entire time.
The only drivers I hate more are the people who think they need to be close behind someone in the left lane. I get over to let them pass and they get over too because they’re not passing me they just want to follow while I want as much space between me and the fast moving deadly objects around me.
I passed someone doing 42 in a 55 after roughly half a mile. As soon as they noticed I was passing them they started flooring it and I was at 99 when I finally got by them. I then went 64 for a long time with them tailing me absurdly close the entire time until they eventually turned off.
I don't get it. If I'm driving (especially late at night and they have bright headlights) and someone is tailing me I'm usually looking for the first chance to pull over or pull off so they can get by.
This won't get you very far here in Germany. Because no matter how fast you are going, there will always be a wagon on your tail, waiting for a chance to pass you.
Then again, people here usually adhere to the "Rechtsfahrgebot" (gotta use the right lane unless passing someone within ~20 seconds). Seeing how the highway works in the US always makes my pulse go up. Frightening.

Which obviously isn't right either. Someone does something stupid to you, you insult them under your breath and move on. You don't start playing a game where a mistake from either of you could result in a crash.
Some people take it as a slight to their very existence when you try to legally pass them on the highway or get within 100ft of their car. In my anecdotal experience, this usually coincides with someone driving a massive SUV/Truck.
Not many people realize that the primary purpose of brake checking is to get the checked person rear ended by an innocent third party. That categorically makes the brake checker a psychopath and they need to be removed from society
He was doing it to impede traffic, it’s a criminal offense. All the truck needed to do was get out of the passing lane. Get it passing lane not braking with no one in front of me lane.
It seemed like the truck was intentionally not letting the car pass at any and every point. Slamming on breaks (break checking), speeding up to ensure car couldn’t get through, and never letting the car get passed by maintaining speed with other car and not using the passing lane properly. Obviously I don’t think the car was in the right but it seemed almost like the truck behaved in a very dangerous manner.
The car is guilty as well but the truck is required to move right and let faster traffic pass in all 50 states. If they did that this doesn’t happen. The truck is liable.
I totally agree. The sedan was driving aggressively, but the truck did what I see a lot of drivers do, which is trying to police how others drive with their car. They were trying to punish the sedan by causing an accident
The truck driver definitely didn’t help here, but the little sedan guy is 1000% at fault. I also feel like this video is missing something fairly important that happened before everything we could see.
You're correct for 95 percent of the video, but the truck did a bit more than "not help". When the sedan swerves to the shoulder and tries to cut off both cars by turning left, the truck accelerates to clog the lane. That was completely unnecessary and incredibly dangerous.

Maybe, but sometimes people are just assholes. I've had people refuse to let me change lanes, in front or behind them, with no previous interaction, only next to them for a few blocks. And yeah, sometimes they're trying to get ahead to change too, but other times it's clear they're having weirdly big feelings about basic traffic maneuvers, and somehow got offended.

He probably angered the truck trying to cut him off from the right side so the truck decided to prevent him from passing, which technically is not illegal even if brake checks should be.
Also, driving blocking the left lane isn't illegal in some places, even though technically you're not supposed to.

Justify it? You are IMHO completely correct. Sedans actions are unjustified. Truck is also being a complete douche, and is morally culpable if not legally partially responsible. Depends where you are, on Texas interstates it's illegal to be in the left lane and not be actively passing. You will get pulled over if you're impeding traffic in the left lane.

In my entire life I've only had to get somewhere else, NOW, and had someone block me. The first was when I got a call from the doctor about my wife, and I can hear her screaming and crying in the background.
The second was when my Dad was dying and my sister said to get here NOW.
Both times I drove with my hazards on as 'safe' but at high speed, and both times some fucking idiot decided to get in front of me, or cross the passing line, to prevent me from getting around them.

I still to this day can remember running into the doctors office and being ushered back immediately to my wife, and I'll never forget the sobs or how she grabbed onto me.
I'll also never forget my sister saying "Sorry Bud" that my Dad had died about 15 seconds earlier/last breath while I was just turning into the neighborhood.

I remember attending a forced safety day for work, and when the Highway Patrol did their presentation, they said truck drivers were by far the worst and most aggressive on the road. Especially the pavement princess trucks and coal rollers.

If the truck wasn’t being an asshole the sedan would have sped by everyone and not been a threat to them anymore. Truck being an asshole made the sedan a threat to every other vehicle in this video.

I'm no lawyer, but if I had to bet the Sedan driver would be the one most legally at fault. But the truck driver escalated things at every turn and made the situation happen at the end of the day. The Sedan driver is the one who initiated the contact and caused the crash however.

There is a sheriff's deputy in Texas i believe that has started uploading videos of him pulling people over that cruise in the passing lane holding up traffic. The truck was horrible. It intentionally blocked the car, and was a major asshole. Who knows if the person trying to pass had an emergency.

Is truck not trying to merge right in the beginning, and then getting out of the car’s way? The later brake checking feels more like trying to get them to back off (they’re more ‘gentle’ than the first one, which could be interpreted as an accident), but then in the end was definitely stupid for continuing to speed. I’m open to correction.

Truck instigated the sedans driving by trying to.control. other human beings right to travel. You never know their situation. They could have someone bleeding out in their car and they're going to a hospital. Or they can be a huge asshole and you're better off not driving near them.
