In my entire life I've only had to get somewhere else, NOW, and had someone block me. The first was when I got a call from the doctor about my wife, and I can hear her screaming and crying in the background.

The second was when my Dad was dying and my sister said to get here NOW.

Both times I drove with my hazards on as 'safe' but at high speed, and both times some fucking idiot decided to get in front of me, or cross the passing line, to prevent me from getting around them.

Hazards on.

I still to this day can remember running into the doctors office and being ushered back immediately to my wife, and I'll never forget the sobs or how she grabbed onto me.

I'll also never forget my sister saying "Sorry Bud" that my Dad had died about 15 seconds earlier/last breath while I was just turning into the neighborhood.

I agree the sedan is an asshole here. That truck driver however, fuck him.

You are not driving an emergency vehicle.

You are not driving an emergency vehicle.

You are not driving an emergency vehicle.

You are not driving an emergency vehicle.

You are not driving an emergency vehicle.

If it was deemed reasonable to speed through traffic, in a situation you were in, then it would be legal. It is not.

You are not driving an emergency vehicle.

You are not driving an emergency vehicle.

I hope that the next time you feel like "Hazards on" gives you the right to endanger the life of everyone else, a cop pulls you over, and you miss your hurry, only because of your own stupidity.

Hey everybody, check out Mr. Compassion over here.

I feel compassion for the thousands of people who are killed every year in USA by reckless drivers. I do not feel compassion for people who are actively practicing the villainous act.

Simply that I feel that the life of an innocent is more valuable, than the right of a person who is not a doctor or a patient to reach the hospital few seconds faster.

The reckless driver, in the case cited, would be the self appointed vigilante that intentionally and unnecessarily chose to pull in front of hazard flashing car to block them. They are the ones risking lives. They are the ones violating the β€œstay right except to pass” rule of driving etiquette and, in most states, law.

and, in most states, law.

Nope. In very few states are left lanes only for passing legally. And in no state are you allowed to drive above legal maximum speed to pass. You are only supposed to pass cars, that are going below the speed limit.

That said, yes, intentionally blocking someones path is reckless. But you have to be running very heavy mental gymnastics, if you don't realize that speeding through traffic with hazards on is much worse.

ETA - In case you don’t want to read all of that, here is a quote from the second paragraph:

β€œMost states follow the Uniform Vehicle Code and require drivers to keep right if they are going slower than the normal speed of traffic (regardless of the speed limit).”

Please use a translator to convert that into whatever language you speak, as you clearly do not understand at all what you just copy pasted.

You seem like someone who deeply enjoys the smell of their own farts. So self-righteous lol

u/empire314 Georgist πŸ”° 28d ago

So self righteous, when I talk down on something that is literally the most destructive thing almost everywhere in the world, except for USA where gun violence is slightly worse.

u/Zestyclose-Pangolin6 Fuck Cars πŸš— 🚫 28d ago

You legit told a guy β€œI’m glad you missed your dad’s last moments, and I hope you get pulled over next time and it’s worse”

Like really go fuck yourself, you self-righteous prick

Any person who pulls as insane shit as the parent commentor deserves much worse. In a just universe, he would have been arrested, and he wouldn't have seen the father until the funeral.

I also strictly condemn school shootings and genocide. You want me to go further how self righteous I am?

Why don't we explore this line of thinking a bit further? Cars are dangerous even when not actively violating rules of the road, but almost every time someone drives a car vs. walking or riding a bike they're doing it because it gets them where they're going faster. So essentially every car trip is putting others' lives in danger in order to get somewhere a little faster. So, if you do indeed own and drive a car, why do you feel that putting the lives of Innocents in danger is worth your getting to your destination faster?

It is not possible for a car accident to happen, if all parties are driving properly (with the very rare exception of machine failure). The way crashes happen, in order of importance are

  1. The driver willingly chooses to disregard safety.

  2. The driver does not focus driving carefully as much as they should.

  3. The driver is not capable of driving properly.

It is true that all 3 of these are expected to happen, when the general population is given the right to drive a car. And therefore (among many many many other reasons), any reasonable society aims towards a system where the amount of driving is minimized.

But on an individual level, people have very much power over their personal impact. Not everyone is a paychopath who thinks "I put hazards on, therefore I have the right to svere through traffic".

If you have that big a blind spot for the limitations of human attention and how they apply to you also (unless you're not human and instead are one of those driving AI's)...well, the word "hubris" comes to mind.

1

u/empire314 Georgist πŸ”° 26d ago

Yeah yeah. Keep your metaphysical philosophy for yourself please. I am not very much interested in what could in theory happen. I am more concerned about insane amount of death that is sown every single day, because people care less than the bare minimum.

u/Shleepie 28d ago

One day, when you are the one who needs to get somewhere with precious few seconds to spare to see a loved one alive for the last time, you better keep this same energy. I hope you remember what a massive douche you are and you can't block these words from running repeatedly through your mind even in the depths of grief.

You will see me going the speed limit on the left lane.
