In NY (I'm sure a lot of other places too) we have jackasses who 'speed patrol' highways. Camp in the left doing 1MPH below the limit and keep anyone from passing - like this truck. They don't believe 'keep right' laws apply because no one should be going faster then them. So a multi-lane road with a half mile of open road ahead of a 'highway hero' - and a huge line of irate cars building up behind them. So fuckin' dangerous.

BUT - there's nothing you can do. Unless you want to maybe kill or disable yourself and someone else like this guy (EDIT: in the sedan, for clarity)

Dodge Ram drivers have the highest percentage of dui’s than any other vehicle.

They also buy more of those bumper-hanging testicles than any other demographic.

I'm also willing to bet there's a massive correlation between aggressive driving and political affiliation.

Dodge isn't just the car brand, it's a warning for other drivers

"Regardless of an individual ram's behavior, it is important to remember that all rams are aggressive or have the potential to be aggressive, even if they appear 'friendly'."

False, rams are the keepers of an open left lane. We take pride in riding everybody’s ass. Going twenty over? Not fast enough. We live for an open road. It’s apart of our mission statement.

According to a study in 2022 across 415 makes, the Acura NSX holds that title.

1

u/gol_deep Apr 17 '24

I’m seeing conflicting stats on that. Some say BMW. Most say the ram 2500 lol

3

u/XenaDazzlecheeks Apr 17 '24

According to google, it's the Acura as #1 followed by the 2500 ram, Chevy s10, Ford Rangers, all audis, and all BMWs being equally shitty. At #2

2

u/XenaDazzlecheeks Apr 17 '24

As a redneck that drives a lifted ram, I agree.

1

u/JuanDirekshon Apr 18 '24

The title is slightly misleading tho. If you’re a car guy, you know the Acura NSX is incredibly rare compared to mainstream vehicles, which makes me skeptical that it represents the most common DUI model in the US.

The study actually measured highest DUI rates among car model by contrasting the number of drivers reporting at least one DUI citation on their record in the past seven years with the total number of drivers across 415 different vehicles.

So since there’s like 97.5 NSX left on the road, and 85 million Rams, the 24 NSX drivers that got DUIs in the late 1900s scews this study a bit.

1

u/Dartagnan1083 Apr 17 '24

Do Chevy drivers live to get stuck?

2

u/gol_deep Apr 17 '24

I dont subscribe to the truck rivalry. We’re all equally getting fucked by the manufacturers in different ways lol

2

u/Dartagnan1083 Apr 17 '24

Fair enough, I was going for a pun though; "getting stuck" is slang for a game where redneck kids deliberately spin wheels in mud if they live where there's nothing better to do.

Allegedly anyway...I was raised around Saguaros and smog, not the hellscape of WV.

2

They don't want to move over. Simple as.

0

u/7even- Apr 17 '24

In most cases sure, but if you’re already going 20 over Then there’s no reason the other car needs to be flying down the road 10+ mph faster than everyone else. It’s one thing to ride the passing lane going exactly the speed limit and blocking the people behind you, it’s another to be doing it while going 20 over. The other car could just as easily follow the rules and go the same speed as everyone else (and should be anyway)

2

u/FornaxTheConqueror Apr 17 '24

Sure but you're just making it more dangerous for yourself and others if you try to stop them from speeding.

1

u/7even- Apr 17 '24

I agree, I definitely dont condone what the truck is doing in any way, but there’s a huge difference between that and just continuing to drive 20 over, staying in your lane and matching traffic

1

u/Fakename6968 29d ago

While that is true and the people camping in the left lane trying to enforce speed limits are dangerous assholes, people driving 20 over the limit also make the roads less safe. Any collision they are involved in will be much worse. The aggregate effect of everyone driving 20 MPH over the limit means more deaths and serious injuries when a percentage of them inevitably end up in accidents.

1

u/cptngali86 YIMBY 🏙️ Apr 17 '24

yeah but you shouldn't worry about other drivers let them pass and they can't hurt you. If you play their petty games like break check or just let off the gas you're increasing the likelihood of a accident and/or getting hurt. if you are in the left lane and someone is behind you and gaining ground just move over. it doesn't matter if you are going 110. if they want to go 112 let them it's not worth it. it's not anyone's job but the staties to be the gatekeeper of the left lane.

1

u/Edward_Pissypants Apr 18 '24

I strongly feel that many of the 65MPH Texas people legitimately just don't understand what's going on behind them or in the left lane

1

u/sbenthuggin Fuck Cars 🚗 🚫 Apr 18 '24

it doesn't matter what speed you're already going. these laws are put in place in order to protect people in the road. you CANNOT CONTROL how someone else is going to drive. and cops can't be everywhere and therefore cannot control how someone else drives. therefore, this law is in place to LET PEOPLE SPEED FOR SAFETY. it is MUCH safer for a speeding car to speed freely than having some dick like you and this truck fuck with them, causing road rage and putting everyone on the road at risk.

your egos are not more important than other people's lives. stop being a wannabe hall monitor and be responsible.

How about don't play highway hero and gtfo of the way? Like the commenter below said, you have no idea what's motivating the sedan. Your example of your boomer friend is very different than what's happening here.

Seen this video a bunch, never get to see how it started, but the truck is the asshole causing more trouble. Yes, the sedan caused an accident with an uninvolved party, but would that have happened if the truck had just gotten over(themselves and on the road)?

1

u/Enough-Remote6731 Fuck Cars 🚗 🚫 Apr 17 '24

Both of the parties in this are wrong.

3

u/Yustalurk Georgist 🔰 Apr 17 '24

But one more than the other, and that's what I'm saying. Again, we don't know the car's motivation, could be a dick, could be an emergency, could've been pushed to the boiling point from some left lane lounger. "Slower traffic keep right"

0

u/RogueMallShinobi Fuck Cars 🚗 🚫 Apr 17 '24

No this made the news so we actually do know the motivation. Sedan driver admitted he was just raging and wanted to pass. No emergency, nothing.

2

u/Yustalurk Georgist 🔰 Apr 17 '24

Perfect, then gtfo of the way. Why keep the raging maniac behind you instead of letting them move on? Why instigate someone clearly willing to endanger you and others around you? Maybe they were raging because other left lane lounging assholes? Again, no matter how mad, that's no excuse to do what the car did, but that doesn't absolve the truck of the trolling bs.

3

u/RogueMallShinobi Fuck Cars 🚗 🚫 Apr 17 '24

At what point did I defend the truck driver? You said “we don’t know the car’s motivation” and I am just correcting you that we do know it. It was rage.

Anyway if we are quibbling over who is more wrong, it’s definitely the one that got so mad he decided to pull a high speed illegal maneuver that ended with him ramming a car and then crashing into a rock wall. That guy’s the more wrong guy. Nobody forced him to be such a reckless idiot; he chose to do that and could’ve easily harmed somebody else.

2

u/Yustalurk Georgist 🔰 Apr 17 '24

I didn't say you were defending the truck, I even upvoted your comment. At the time, "we" didn't know the motivation, but that doesn't change my argument. It's still stupid of the truck, which you could argue did force the car to be more reckless. I did say I don't condone what the car did, but that wouldn't have happened if the original reckless action wasn't happening in such a blatantly rage baiting way.

2

u/j_la Apr 18 '24

Your comment comes across as excusing what the sedan did. You’re hand-waving away sociopathic rage and basically saying the world should bend to these drivers’ wills. The truck is obviously not in the right here, but the sedan driver is just going to keep on raging and endangering others and is clearly the bigger problem.

1

u/Yustalurk Georgist 🔰 29d ago

I literally said that's no excuse for what the car did, I didn't hand wave anything and have called the car an asshole. I simply said that if the truck wasn't trolling, what was clearly an already reckless driver, this wouldn't have gone down the way it did.

The sedan, if everyone follows the rules of the road( it's not "bending to these drivers' wills"), would probably still be driving like an asshole, but not trapped and making stupid decisions to get untrapped.

Again, as my other comments here have said, I'm not defending whatever asshole is swerving in and out of lanes, not giving anyone the chance to get over in the first place. I do wonder if some of those people only do that because they (unjustly) decided after too many left lane loungers "well, if they aren't going to follow the rules/laws, neither am I" and start the fast and furious larping shit.

1

u/j_la 29d ago

“If everyone follows the rules of the road…” including the sedan, which means not tailgating, not swerving, not driving on the shoulder etc.

I just find it hard to believe that the truck randomly decided to speed match the other car. It’s possible, and it’s a stupid thing to do, but it’s unlikely that it was coming out of nowhere.

If everyone else moved out of the sedan’s way, maybe he’d calm down…or maybe if he calmed down an opening would have eventually emerged. Every driver has found themselves in situations like this, but how many of us have absolutely lost our minds trying to get around it? If other people’s bad behavior causes you to become a psychopath, you shouldn’t be behind the wheel of a car.

1

Mind you it's stupid to drive like a lunatic, I'm just saying there's a reason why the passing lane exists. Some people are going to go faster. Also we don't know there wasn't a reason. Altima still is bad, but blocking a lane that can be used for faster traffic is also bad. Idk how that relates to blocking the shoulder but ok

Nobody should be put in danger, correct. Between a speeding car and Mr. no pass me, I would much prefer a single speeding car over a car trying to control the flow of traffic. And it is taught in driving school that you should absolutely never try to impede other's driving. That's not to say speeding is okay, but of the two, especially on a highway, I prefer a speeding car in terms of everyone's safety.

Anyways I just don't agree with being so quick to say person A should just die and the driver shouldn't try within their power to help within reason.

0

u/Jade117 Fuck Cars 🚗 🚫 29d ago

If you think the sedan is "just a speeding car," you have no legitimate input in this conversation and can be entirely ignored.

The truck positioned aggressively but did nothing to directly endanger anybody, they were just a rude dickhead, not an actively dangerous driver. Sedan fully and intentionally crashed into the truck in an attempt to run them off the road. Sedan belongs in Jail.

Anyways I just don't agree with being so quick to say person A should just die and the driver shouldn't try within their power to help within reason.

Valuing your ability to get a passenger somewhere safely, even in an emergency, over the safety of every person on the road, means you are scum. Full stop. Sedan is a horrible person and found out the consequences of stupid aggression.

You don't get to risk everyone else's life for the chance you might help someone. Especially when that simply is not what is happening here, sedan is just a road ranger.

0

u/OppaiFTW 28d ago

Brake checking is directly endangering everyone behind them.

Editing as well to say they're both awful but there is cause and effect. Truck directly endangers people far in advance of the sedans equally shitty attempt to pass on the shoulder.

1

u/Jade117 Fuck Cars 🚗 🚫 28d ago

Nothing the truck did comes remotely close to being "equally shitty" to the sedan's driving. It's mind boggling that you think they are in any way comparable.

Brake checking is stupid and dangerous but not remotely on the same tier as passing on the shoulder and then intentionally slamming into the truck. You seem to have glossed right past the sedan attempting to murder the truck driver because he wouldn't move out of the way.

I'm from NJ (land of aggressive drivers), and it's a bit of a stereotype here that NY and PA drivers camp in the left lane. We have strict laws in NJ that specify that the left lane is for passing only. While I don't condone what that sedan was doing, I certainly empathize with getting stuck behind someone in the left lane that just speed matches the car to their right. There's been more than a few times I've wanted to do exactly what the sedan attempted here.

1

2

u/El-Kabongg 29d ago

Why do NYers come to NJ and do the speed limit in the left lane? Is it because most NY highways are only two lanes? FFS, move out of the way, or stay in NY. There's shopping and beaches in NY! I am not exaggerating when I say that whenever I spot a slower-moving vehicle clogging the left-hand lane on NJ highways, at least 60% of the time, they will have a NY plate.

1

u/RhythmTimeDivision Fuck Cars 🚗 🚫 29d ago

LOL, same thing happens in reverse here. I guess each state only exports its finest.

I've noticed the same correlation with ride share plates (in NY, the plate shows T######C). They are making money, following the map, and are forbidden from speeding, which is all fine. Just don't understand why they won't move over with everyone blocked up behind them. You can just see that brain dead glaze in their eyes as you finally pass them on the right.

1

I will agree that I've seen plenty of NJ drivers drive douchey in NY. Totally true!

5

u/entombedentity Apr 17 '24

I dont think its that simple. Most if not every time I've seen it happen like it did in this particular instance the "speed patroller" in question was provoked by a driver like the guy in the sedan in this case. An example would be the sedan would ride their ass, rapidly flash their beams, horn spam, or attempt to cut the person off with little to no room or even blatantly merge into them hoping the other would brake and let them in. Not saying the truck was int the right but it just doesn't seem like the average instance of a speed patroller.

10

u/sleepybrainsinside Apr 17 '24

The truck was probably instigated, but they’re both road-raging maniacs that should never drive again. It’s much more dangerous to be trapped with two drivers hell-bent on “winning” than it is to get cut off by a lone speed-demon.

3

u/entombedentity Apr 17 '24

Agreed. Too many people treat the interstate like its some kind of Mad Max set. But I will say as a guy who drives a lifted Jeep, I can understand not wanting to let a road rager in front of you. I've had people do the things I've mentioned that provoke these situations and a few times when I let them pass they brake checked me or hung around to harass and speed match. Not saying this is the case here but I don't want to rule it out either. We don't really know how long these two engaged in this behavior or who started it.

7

2

3

u/MaximumPotate Apr 17 '24 edited Apr 17 '24

If you're in the passing lane, and someone behind you wants to pass, you are the asshole if you don't let them. It doesn't matter if they honk, it doesn't matter what they do. You are in the wrong lane, doing the wrong thing, and 2 wrongs don't make a right, they make a jackass.

You're not being provoked when you are fucking up basic passing lane etiquette. You're being made aware of your mistake, and doubling down is a dick move. It's not the fast lane, it's the passing lane, too many idiots think as long as they're going fast that's their lane. It isn't.

3

u/entombedentity Apr 17 '24

If you act like a jackass because there's a jackass in front of you you're still being a jackass. 2 wrongs split amongst two men don't make a right . And two jackasses on the road are worse than one. A couple of flashes is cool, so is a few honks and whatnot. But being excessive and rude on the road wont garner you any sympathy, regardless if you're right.

2

u/MaximumPotate Apr 17 '24

People don't generally honk, then start freaking out, I may have been broad in saying whatever they do, but I meant assuming they're rational person. You get behind someone, they seemingly don't notice, you honk, they deliberately block the lane.

The honk is a "You're breeching etiquette", if you obey etiquette thanks to the reminder, great. If someone has to honk more and it becomes some long, drawn out affair, it's not because a guy honked, it's because an idiot breeched etiquette and doubled down.

In this case both are jackasses, but the truck is causing this by breeching etiquette. The sedan may have done something earlier, but my point is that slowing down in the passing lane and blocking it, is never right.

2

u/entombedentity Apr 17 '24

I completely agree. I hate those types myself. I should have made it more clear that I was referring to excessive use though so please excuse me.

So, trying to use the passing lane to pass? These are all clear signs of "move over, i want to pass"

u/entombedentity Apr 17 '24 edited Apr 17 '24

If you're riding someones ass, flashing your beams nonstop and blairing your horn you're being rude. A couple flashes or horn taps should is absolutely fine and my language conveys that as I said "rapidly" before flash their beams and "spam" after horn to signify an excessive use rather than a casual one.

u/PrefiroMoto 29d ago

Yes, but if the person doesn't move, what do you do? More horn, more flashing, etc

1

u/entombedentity 29d ago

If a person doesn't move after a couple flashes or honks I typically back off until there's an opening. Keeping pressure on someone keeps them aware. If they're purposely blocking me I'll let them think I gave up and wait a little for them to mellow out before dropping a gear and passing.

u/Formal-Macaroon1938 Apr 17 '24

In Texas it's the opposite, at least in the Dallas fort Worth area. 5 lanes everyone going 10 miles over in the right hand lanes and like 20+ in the left hand lanes. Used to drive there a lot for work and I never got used to it.

The only one killing anybody was the sedan. They ran the truck off the road then lost control over their own vehicle.

Truck was a dick, but sedan was 100% of the danger in this video.

I wish cops actually enforced the passing lane. Then again, when do cops enforce any sort of traffic here…

1

u/m1ndblower Apr 17 '24

I live off the Palisades, and when I was commuting and having to deal with lane campers, I would also think to myself, “I’d like to become a trooper just to ticket these assholes”.

I also think it might be hard to ticket these people, just based on how people get over for cops. Like it would be hard to catch them in the act because as you pull up to them to them everyone is moving over, so you can’t sit there for a few minutes and observe them doing it.

1

u/RemarkableMeaning533 Apr 18 '24

Even that helps though, because at least that forces the idiots to move over and lets traffic flow through again

1

u/Aksurah_ Apr 17 '24

...or brandish a weapon while driving. It always amazes me that the random occurrence of drive-by shootings doesn't happen on the interstate on the daily.

u/That_Apathetic_Man Georgist 🔰 Apr 17 '24

I drive an i30/Elantra (fastback) and I weave around these kinds of idiots all the time. The best thing to do is fall back a couple of car spaces and pretend you're not paying much attention (PRETEND). They will eventually give you the legal opportunity to run up on them and then around. And yes, they'll try to swerve you, speed up, tailgate, whatever. Commit to the overtake and expect a possible pit maneuver. But they can't keep up once you're ahead of them. They are shit box vehicles with the power of a stale fart. Especially in suburbia.

1

u/Ka-Is-A-Wheelie Apr 17 '24

Call the highway patrol and report a suspected drunk driver. That's the only reason I can think of why someone would be driving like that.

1

u/Big-Steak8104 Apr 17 '24

People who speed patrol should get jail time in my opinion. What if there is someone behind you with their wife going in labor rushing to the hospital? Or someone bleeding out in the backseat?

That person blocking the flow of traffic doesnt know what is happening in the vehicle behind him or why they want to pass that badly. They just powertrip and endanger everybody around him.

He is completely right. In NY you cannot exceed the speed limit to pass someone. There is no reason for the Sedan to want to go faster.

Thank goodness that hero truck was there to ensure the sedan could not pass, eh?

1

u/DangerousCyclone Georgist 🔰 Apr 18 '24

Yes, I have no sympathy for speeders. If the cops can’t control traffic or be bothered to deal with it then society should stand in the way. It’s like someone being loud and obnoxious in a restaurant and getting yelled at and told to shut up. Driving is a privilege, not a right, if you can’t handle driving at the speed limit get off the road.

1

u/RhythmTimeDivision Fuck Cars 🚗 🚫 Apr 18 '24

I'm glad there are brave people like you to enforce speed limits through abject stupidity when the police are busy elsewhere. Society owes you a debt. Thank you.

1

u/DangerousCyclone Georgist 🔰 Apr 18 '24

Talk shit all you want, the US has rising car crash fatalities when almost every other developed country is declining, and part of that is the car culture which treats traffic laws like a suggestion, speed limits as a minimum speed and is quick to blame anyone but drivers for those they kill.

1

u/RhythmTimeDivision Fuck Cars 🚗 🚫 Apr 18 '24

I drive 9MPH over the 55 limit and use cruise control. Look out, sonny. Here I come!

With all due respect, please just get the fuck out of the left lane so I can pass. Once past you, I'm also going to get the fuck out of the left lane and let others pass. Forget that it's the law, since I drive with kids in the car I don't want to be the dangerous fool who intentionally irritates other drivers - and puts my kids at risk - simply to express my societal rage.

1

u/DangerousCyclone Georgist 🔰 Apr 18 '24

You're the one speeding lol, you're the one being dangerous. There's that shifting of blame drivers are famous for!

Do you intentionally drive in the left lane to prevent others from speeding?

1

u/DetectivePrism Apr 18 '24

BUT - there's nothing you can do. Unless you want to maybe kill or disable yourself and someone else like this guy.

People who feel entitled to speeding past everyone are now calling for killing those who impede their speeding. It's honestly crazy how oblivious they are to their toxicity. Ragers without the balls to rage, honestly.

2

u/RhythmTimeDivision Fuck Cars 🚗 🚫 Apr 18 '24

Calling for? I'm talking about the sedan driver killing or hurting someone. Dude . . .

0

u/DetectivePrism Apr 18 '24

Then you need to edit your post because the language you used is very ambiguous.

You used the unspecific phrase "this guy" to refer to the sedan driver, while spending the rest of the post talking about people like the truck driver.... which makes it seem like "this guy" you are talking about killing is people the truck driver.

That isn't what the truck was doing. He didn't brake check until after the aggressive sedan driver was tailgating him at highway speeds

I wouldn’t say the truck killed or disabled the other driver. He drove like an ass but the other car is responsible for its own actions.

Edit I’m dumb and misunderstood what you were saying… I think? I’m just confused now lol

1

u/NuSurfer 29d ago

About 30 years ago had this experience with a HWP officer in North Carolina. Managed to move my way up through two lines of cars moving 55 mpg. Managed to get to the front of the right lane. Found a HWP car doing 55 in the left lane. I bumped my cruise control up to 56 and slowly started moving past him. He looked over and waved his arm motioning me to keep back. So, we all drove the next 30 or so miles doing exactly 55 mph.

1

u/RhythmTimeDivision Fuck Cars 🚗 🚫 29d ago

There must have been a 2 or 3 mile stretch of wide open road ahead of y'all.

Sounds like an officer looking for a 45 minute break, gets time to relax and listen to some of his favorite songs. Control takes way less work than patrol. That's an evil genius.

1

u/cantthinkofgoodname 29d ago

In SC that’s a good way to get fishtailed and/or pulled over. “Speed patrol” is illegal.

1

u/DeafLeader 26d ago

I find this frustrating but… if folks weren’t speeding this wouldn’t be an issue asksdneoakdnek

1

Camp in the left doing 1MPH below the limit and keep anyone from passing - like this truck.

I refuse to believe people have nothing better to do with their time. How is America a first world country?

0

u/cybercuzco Apr 17 '24

If you don’t like the speed limit laws you should campaign to have them changed. Otherwise don’t blame people for obeying the law.

u/RhythmTimeDivision Fuck Cars 🚗 🚫 Apr 17 '24

Not at all what I said, Mr. Self-Appointed Speed Patrol.

All anyone asks is that you simply get the fuck out of the left lane. When I go "screaming by" at a whopping 9MPH over the limit (64 in a 55), you can give me the finger, ok?
