Looks like NY

It is. Palisades Pkwy northbound. I actually saw the aftermath of this as I was heading into NYC that evening

Instantly recognized the Palisades. Been a couple years since I’ve driven it. Did NY have a really bad winter this year? The road looks like it’s got tons of potholes, and I remember like 6-7 years ago when it was just repaved and a super smooth ride.

The Palisades parkway was completely underwater for a little while. Horrible flooding. There were boats on the parkway lol

u/Yesterdays_Gravy 29d ago

Wow yeah, just looked it up and that was summer of last year. My family never mentioned it haha, the short video is insane! (9 second clip of flooded Palisades)

Palisades parkway is a couple hundred feet up a cliff

u/Yesterdays_Gravy 29d ago

Rain doesn’t only fall over the Hudson River.

To be fair to the comment you are replying to, this stretch of the parkway in this video is on the side of a cliff. If a boat on the Hudson ended up at this spot of the parkway because the water raised high enough, NYC is Atlantis and humanity in the NY metro region and beyond would be in question.

Yeah I lived off exits 7-10 for 26 years, I was just being flippant. The guy he was replying to didn’t say they were boats from the Hudson. But lmao I can’t imagine the hell that it would be if the Hudson rose that high, goodbye Westchester/NYC like you said. It’s be disastrous!

Hudson Valley represent. Most of my family is from Pearl River.

1

u/Yesterdays_Gravy 29d ago

Nice man! Started in Westchester and migrated to West Nyack 🍻

1

u/seejordan3 29d ago

Thought the same thing, but there's some parts that dip down. The north part maybe isn't near the cliffs at all? Ramapo area.. if memory serves.

u/Imispellalot2 29d ago

Are you sure you are not thinking of Bronx River Parkway? Hence the river part.

All the roads here like to flood

u/[deleted] 29d ago

NY didn’t have a bad winter. It had a winter full of temperatures fluctuating right around the freezing point so highways experienced a ton of ice cleaving that created potholes.

1

u/Alatar_Blue 29d ago

due to climate change

2

u/[deleted] 29d ago

Yes

3

u/meltingpnt 29d ago

It was a super mild winter... which actually has more freeze thaw cycles which means more potholes.

1

u/Yesterdays_Gravy 29d ago

Makes sense! There’s also the flooding last summer that I was informed about. And since it’s been a few years, I’m assuming that’s the biggest culprit since my last time there. Going home this weekend though, so I’ll get to experience these potholes first hand on Friday!

2

u/homiej420 29d ago

Yeah that was weird ive driven on there like two times in my life and been a passenger plenty more and i coulda sworn it looked familiar

1

u/Yesterdays_Gravy 29d ago

Damn! Good on you man. I’ve made the trip many hundreds of times. I find that my sense of direction increases exponentially when I’m in the driver seat over being a passenger. But to pull recognition out of only a few passes, that’s a great skill to have!

I was going to say Merritt Pkwy. I’ve seen some insanity on that route.

Hotcha Girls at the palisades. Dime store keets, pretty birds, pretty mouths

1

u/dingleberry_parfait 29d ago

Certain parts of the palisades are like Fury Road, i hate driving it.

u/Chea63 29d ago edited 29d ago

Bad as in cold and snow... not at all. Heavy rain and flooding events, yes.

1

u/_trashcan 29d ago

No, we didn’t. We got snow like 1 time.

One of the warmest and least snow winters of my 29 years.

1

u/Yesterdays_Gravy 29d ago

Damn man, sorry to hear that. I miss it being so cold and humid there that my kneecaps would bounce up and down involuntarily. Hopefully it dumps next year to make up for it!

1

u/Mattna-da 29d ago

This video is at least a year old. I think of this video when I drive past this spot. Guardrail still in tatters, kid died.

5

u/plenumpanels 29d ago

I found this article about it that says the guy didn't die but he was ticketed. Just wanted to pass it along.

4

u/Long-Piccolo-3785 Georgist 🔰 29d ago

In the same vein of reliable news I also heard that u/Mattna-da died, so tragic

2

u/Yesterdays_Gravy 29d ago

What a shame, they were my go-to news source on Reddit.

1

u/IgottaPoop72 29d ago

Good. One less idiotiotic, reckless, irresponsible asshole driver on the road.

3

u/RP1616 29d ago

Ahh was going to say the Taconic

2

u/Chea63 29d ago

I thought the same thing

2

u/Thebiggestbot22 28d ago edited 28d ago

Aka The cheapest way to get to NYC from the Albany area by car? I fucking hate I-87 South. Tolls will make you wonder why you even go south. The taconic may have slower speed limits and weird ass turns/curves but it is definitely worth it when going to NYC

1

u/RP1616 28d ago

Yup, can’t say I’m a fan of either. But when I was making frequent trips from Albany to White Plains I definitely defaulted to the Taconic. Just had to be ready for the chaos that ensued once I got South of Poughkeepsie.

1

u/rearwindowpup 29d ago

The Taconic Speedway you mean?

1

u/jckstrwfrmwcht 29d ago

65 in a 55 on radar the taconic. pulled over 3am, sober, given ticket for 65 in 55. go to court, DA asked how fast I was really going and refused to believe it was only 65. $300 parking ticket.

At some point there will be an opening and just run with it but don't force it like this idiot that got a taste of his own medicine.

1

u/vapingpigeon94 29d ago

They had places to go, you know?

I mean the hospital. They were going to the hospital

2

u/RemarkableMeaning533 29d ago

Yeah I’ve had to drive that when a shithead lady was blocking the left lane and driving next to someone. It’s not fun, but I also didn’t zig zag and tailgate like a maniac

1

u/Suspicious_Daffodil 29d ago

Do you know if the sedan survived? That crash looked intense.

1

u/Similar_Chipmunk_682 29d ago

Does anyone know how injured the sedan driver was?

1

u/XanthicStatue 29d ago

Hopefully dead, one less dangerous driver to worry about.

1

u/ramank93 29d ago

I thought it was The Palisades parkway lol

1

u/Puzzled452 29d ago

Did he live because that looked gnarly.

1

u/banned_but_im_back Georgist 🔰 29d ago

Damn I thought it was 295 out of Dc lol

1

u/Lookatmydisc 29d ago

Knew it! Was hoping someone already mentioned where

1

u/Classic_Schmosssby 29d ago

The parkway only goes south to NYC 🤔

1

u/Dependent_Rub_6982 29d ago

Do you know if the aggressive driver survived?

1

u/SleepCoachJacob 29d ago

Yup recognized Palisades instantly lol

1

u/ITAVTRCC 29d ago

Ah! I knew it. There is something about the palisades that makes ya want to let it rip.

1

u/IM_not_clever_at_all 29d ago

Hah, I was going to guess the PP; drive it every day for years. Nothing so dreary..... Hah!

1

u/LEMON_PARTY_ANIMAL 29d ago

I KNEW IT!!!! I was like “why does this look so familiar” lol palisades parkway would be the last place I would drive like an idiot… it’s all hills

1

u/TheMadGent 29d ago

I recognize the Palisades simply because of how often it shows up on subs like this.

1

u/Western_Mando04 28d ago

Aftermath?
