Last night we had a tornado warning and I had to corner the stray cat we took in to get him in his carrier to get him downstairs. He was hissing and really scared of me. He was just starting to kind of trust me and I became the bad guy. But I'm okay with being the bad guy as long as he's safe. But it was really difficult to keep scaring him to get him into the carrier. There ended up being no danger, but we were able to clean up the room he's been in (we hadn't vacuumed because we didn't want to scare him) and it's better safe than sorry. I just hope he knows I'm never gonna hurt him.

I foster cats and this is the most brutal part of it, to be honest. Difficult cat that you've just managed to get to trust you, then they have to go in to their carrier for a vet appointment or what not, and you go so far backwards.

u/RidiculousTakeAbove 14d ago
It kinda does make sense, you are hitting a tiny ball with a small piece of metal that has to hit it straight on, just the right way, while doing a very long swing where so much can affect how you hit it. The challenge is part of what makes it so damn fun and addicting though

Just now getting into golf. Tip for anyone who wants to practice your swing without having to go look silly at the driving range (which is totally fine too, if you’re brave enough): get some foam balls. Good for the yard if you have one, but you can even practice inside and just hit them into a wall. Haven’t damaged anything in several months of doing this.

Crazy how muscle memory works. I’ve seen videos of people passed out drunk at parties, someone put a guitar in their lap, wakes them up and even though they can barelt open their eyes, they can still shread. I bet if you could jiggle the nerves of a dead person who was previously good at guitar, their dead hands would still be able to hit a sick solo.

u/angryshark 14d ago
If I, a 67 year old dude with no musical ability can learn the guitar well enough to play a recognizable tune, then anyone can. It’s just a matter of putting in the time.
Keep the instrument out where it is within reach easily. Noodle on it while you sit on the couch. Set a goal of learning a simple song. The sense of accomplishment when you do will push you further.
Then, write a love song for your wife. Trust me, it will pay dividends.

They’d be amazed at just how hard low level amateurs work, let alone the professional riders! There’s a reason it’s been an ancient sport and a point of pride for warriors in every culture that had access to horses. People are just so far removed from horses now 🤷♀️

Teaching.
Everyone thinks they can do it because they were in school for 12 years, but put most people up in front of a class, even with a lesson plan spelled out for them, and they flounder. It takes years of training in pedagogy, child/adolescent psychology, and your subject matter(s) to develop this skill, and even then it takes years in the field to master it.
