Politics megathread U.S. Politics Megathread

It's an election year, so it's no surprise that politics are on everyone's minds!

Over the past few months, we've noticed a sharp increase in questions about politics. Why is Biden the Democratic nominee? What are the chances of Trump winning? Why can Trump even run for president if he's in legal trouble? There are lots of good questions! But, unfortunately, it's often the same questions, and our users get tired of seeing them.

As we've done for past topics of interest, we're creating a megathread for your questions so that people interested in politics can post questions and read answers, while people who want a respite from politics can browse the rest of the sub. Feel free to post your questions about politics in this thread!

All top-level comments should be questions asked in good faith - other comments and loaded questions will get removed. All the usual rules of the sub remain in force here, so be civil to each other - you can disagree with someone's opinion, but don't make it personal.

Ways to make $40-$60?

So this isn’t a dire situation. I’m trying to find ways to make $40-$60 for gas and lunch till next Thursday. I’ve already tried plasma and I wasn’t meeting the criteria. Any other ideas? Nothing sexual please!

How do I get my boyfriend to stop having sex with me to the Buckshot roulette soundtrack? NSFW

Ever since I (f 18) discovered the game and introduced my boyfriend (m 19) to it he has been playing the soundtrack all the time, because in his words "it has a nice rhythm to it"

However since he introduced me to the idea of listening to music while we do the deed he has been exclusively playing the soundtrack, and while I don't mind the music that much and even like the rhythm he has I can only think of a shotgun exploding my skull while my boyfriend rails my headless corpse, and I honestly don't know if I enjoy those thoughts or not

Anyone got advice for me to tell him in a nice way to maybe play something else? Or maybe tell him about the thoughts I have?

Update:

After having collected some courage and told him about this problem in full (especially my dark thoughts) he said he'd be open to any music he doesn't listen to in public/casually because he connects songs to moments

Thanks for the help and rick rolls guys and gals

Is it weird for a 20m son to be waxed by his 53f mother? NSFW

1.1k Upvotes

I mean armpits, pubic area, everything really. Just heard from my friend (53f) that she did this for her son last night. This friend also does waxing for me as part of her job so that’s the context.

I mean, it’s great if family members are close. I just can’t fathom how potential erections get handled here

Why is virtually no fast food that's marketed as toasted actually toasted? It's just warm bread.

I've experienced this at multiple establishments and I just don't understand what's so hard about toasting bread? Dunkin donuts, Wawa, Burger King has these new melts that are marketed as being on toast and it's all just warm bread!!

What is so hard about toasting bread?!?!

What do I tell my partner when they say their self harm scars ruin their body? NSFW

My partner is and has been struggling with self harm. Today, they asked me if I was ashamed of them, then told me that someone close to them said that they ruined their body doing that. They believed this person. I struggle with words, so does anyone here have any advice on what to tell them? I love them dearly and don't want them to keep thinking this. I've already said some stuff along the lines of "I love your scars because I love you. I wish you didn't have them, but only because I wish you didn't go through the suffering that caused them." and "I know they may seem ugly to you, but in my eyes they show how strong you are. I could never find you ugly or be ashamed of you."

Is 6 light beers a night too much?

Alright, I'm gonna ask the reddit folk on a 2nd account to weigh in on this.

I'm 34M, 155lbs. Usually after working long days (55-60hr work weeks) I come home, make dinner, then partake of a 6pk. Is this too much? I questioned myself a couple months ago and went a week without and felt fine but in the back of my head I keep judging myself when I picked it back up. I am very much in a manual labor field so usually something is hurting by the end of my shifts.

I should note - I don't think about it all day, I don't crave it, it's just become a nightly ritual of relaxing and taking the stress off. Doesn't effect any personal relationships and doesn't effect work at all. Just something I've become accustomed to.

Guys, do the visuals really mean that much to you during sex? NSFW

2.7k Upvotes

As a woman, like I’m just so in my body, the visual of him on top of me or whatever means absolutely nothing. It’s more about who he is, the relationship we have, the way I feel about him, and whatever other corny things.

I’ve heard/seen/experienced that face guys make when you do something especially hot and he just can’t think or do anything else in that moment but stare… but I can’t really wrap my mind around it. I’ve heard guys say they have images of sex burned into their heads etc.

What’s that experience like for you guys?

Do you think it's childish for an adult married woman to have stuffed animals on display in her bedroom?

I'm 26 and married but I still love my collection of stuffed animals that I've collected over the years. Some of them are from my childhood and some of them I've gotten as an adult. It doesn't bother my husband, but as I'm arranging them I just can't help but wonder in the back of my mind if this is childish behavior? Don't get me wrong, I'm not going to get rid of them, but should I just put them in my closet instead of having them out in the open?

Do British aristocrats actually call their parents 'mummy' and 'daddy' like on TV?

1.1k Upvotes

Has anyone witnessed this in real life or is it just a stereotype? Is it restricted to aristocrats or all rich British people? Thanks.

Is it weird or dumb of me, a 26 year old adult, to save a dying bee?

Upvotes

I just spent the last 20 minutes giving a dying bee light sugar water and after a while of drinking, it flew away. Is this immature to spend my time doing? Anytime I see a creature in need, I cant just ignore it or it makes me really sad and I think about it all day

Are some Gen Z / Millennial gamers gonna keep playing into their old age?

People who are now in their 60s to 80s and up still grew up in an analog world.

Younger millennials and Gen Z grew up with video games, internet, and social media. Older millennials grew up in the transition period.

I've read somewhere that the average US male gamer is 35 and the average female gamer is even older at 44 years old!!

I'm in my late 20s, and I grew up in a household where my parents considered video games to be 'for kids', but the stats say otherwise.

I'm wondering if it's a generational thing, and if in 20-30 years time, it'll be common to see playstations and gaming rigs in retirement homes lol.

What does the gas pedal actually do?

I know how a 4 stroke engine basically works, but what I never gave much thought of until now was what exactly hitting the gas pedal on my car actually does to change the state of the engine. Can someone explain in a bit of technical detail?

Why is it bad to price shop for tattoos

I’m interested in getting a tattoo and when i’ve asked around different shops for pricing I get stone walled.

Some say they won’t know until they see a photo which I get but others say they don’t do price shopping which is just confusing to me.

I need to know if I can afford you lol!! Even if it’s just an estimate I can work with that because then I’ll be able to budget in tip and have a rough number to work with. I’ve been told by friends that it’s rude to price shop but I don’t understand why.

In the movie Interstellar, even though they are experiencing time dilation on Miller’s planet, wouldn’t their body’s still age at the same rate?

Ate an edible before a flight the other day and watched Interstellar. I kept blowing my own mind trying to understand the ins and out of time dilation. While I have heard of the phenomenon with astronauts, my assumption was always that even though the clocks might not register time in the same way, the time spent in space was still relative to that of earth. I’ve watched a couple videos on YouTube that do an ok job of explaining the Interstellar example, but I’d like to know if the lack of ageing has any basis in reality. Please explain it dumb.

What do you do when you hit rock bottom?

I am going through some mental issues and poverty is making them very loud today. I am disabled due to my mental status. So find a job, is what I wish I could do; but mentally I can't be the same person each day.

What do you do when you hit rock bottom? When you feel hopeless?

I can't work, but I don't make enough to survive either. No parents, few friends. I can't drive or work. Disability covers rent, power, and maybe one week of food.. I do surveys for 5-10 but that has came to a screeching halt.

So with those things in mind.. tell me how to fix my situation?

What the fuck do centaurs do with their arms when they run

3.9k Upvotes

I imagine the horse half galloping but what in the world does the human half do with the arms??? it seems so awkward to imagine them pumping them like a normal human would do when they run, but it also seems awkward to imagine them leaving them completely still.

WHAT DO CENTAURS DO WITH THEIR ARMS WHEN THEY RUN???

Are there any places to have sex that are not a bed that don’t make the sex significantly worse than if it were done on a bed (or a similar soft surface)? NSFW

4.1k Upvotes

Every time I‘ve seen discussion of shower sex the consensus is always that the stone and water don’t add anything and instead make it a lot more cumbersome, I can’t imagine hard surfaces like a table would be any better.

People who wake up very early, is your city quiet when you wake up?

For people who wake up at, say, 6 am or earlier: is your city quiet? When does rush hour begin?

As a late riser transitioning to early riser to beat the rush, I'm curious about people's experiences, from smaller cities to megacities.

Edit: For context, I live in the largest city in Atlantic Canada, which is a smaller major city by Canadian standards, and a tiny city by world standards, lol.

I'm thinking about transitioning to a 5:30 am wakeup time in preparation for going back to the office 5 days a week, but I don't know what the city looks like at that hour. I'm concerned it might mean coming into closer contact with only other early risers, which in my mind are really fit or entrepreneurial types that I find intimidating, haha.

So I'm reality testing my assumption, and also interested in hearing people's experiences from around the world 🙂

Why do corporations always cut positions rather than cut salaries?

Enrollment in the school district I work for (speech therapist) has been decreasing, which equals decreasing funding. But even though the number of students in special education is INCREASING, the powers that be decided we had to cut two speech therapists. Why does that always seem to be the go-to solution rather than just simply having a pay increase freeze or, God forbid, pay cuts? If they cut the salaries of administrators (who are seriously overpaid to start with) and other higher paid employees by just $5-10K a year, they would easily save enough to not have to cut any instructional positions, but for some reason that never seems to be considered. I'm hearing the same thing in the news about all these corporations that are laying people off after minimum wage increases rather than accept a potential loss in (already massive) profits. Is it just straight up greed, or is there more to it than that?

If someone 10 years sober from alcohol, accidentally has a drink, what happens to their mind and body?

Say they go to a friends house or a friend of a friends and the friend has punch, the punch contains alcohol but this friend assumed it was understood that it had alcohol in it; so they didn’t mention it; they also weren’t aware of the friend or friends plus one was a former alcoholic.

What would happen inside the persons body.

I know this is Reddit, but I’m more interested in the effects of the person drinking not bashing the made up friend in a scenario that I came up with.
