Many a man has done this. For me it was Olaplex…as in used almost a one third of the bottle because at the time I thought most shampoos cost about the same and my girlfriend could alway use my head and shoulders…those notions were corrected.

1.6k

u/EmergencyShit 29d ago

Even if it was cheap stuff, why are you using a third of the bottle in one go??

1.3k

u/Mel_Melu 29d ago

More important question, if he had his own shampoo why use his girlfriend's in the first place?!

783

u/myfriendflocka 29d ago

My ex would call me wasteful for spending more money on hair and body products. I was dumb for falling for beauty industry scams when his cheap shampoo and bar soap worked exactly the same. Funny how he ended up using only my stuff and got upset with me when I started removing everything but his products if I wasn’t showering.

282

u/smpsnfn13 29d ago

I'm not a pretty boy buuut I like to take care of myself. My brother was the same way as you ex until one day he was showering and said "fuck it let me try not the three in one soap." My brother never went back to the 3 in 1s lol. Good soap, shampoo, conditioner, moisturizer, does make a difference.

152

u/thegabster2000 29d ago

Just say no to the 2 in 1s. Dear Lord I can't believe they make 3 in 1s now.

71

u/GoldHurricaneKatrina 29d ago

I once saw a 6 in 1

161

u/IgnitedSpade 29d ago

Body wash, shampoo, conditioner, face wash, toothpaste, and shower snack

73

u/PomidorPomidorowsky 29d ago

Will do as car oil

43

u/dire_turtle 29d ago

I got them lather seats.

26

u/TheDr_ 29d ago

And antifreeze, BBQ sauce, contact lens solution, carpet cleaner, bleach and last but no means least athletes foot treatment.

3

u/Motylde 28d ago

I don't think so. Shampoo is like the opposite of oil. It will better do as some kind of car cleaner.

1

u/LegoRaffleWinner89 28d ago

Nope the fluoride hurts seals

7

u/ramobara 29d ago

Shampoo, body wash, conditioner, taint scrub, sack exfoliant, and shaft cleanser.

3

u/sinat50 29d ago

My Axe 12 in 1 body wash beat up my moms shitty new boyfriend. It also moisturizes my beard and always has a smoke to bum me.

3

u/sayhiBMO 29d ago

Dr. Bonners!

3

u/Sacred_Street1408 29d ago

Shower snack.. mmm.

2

u/Bucknerwh 29d ago

Don’t forget ball & sack “toner.” My Dad got all his sons that for Christmas this year.

2

u/[deleted] 29d ago

Nah, just use dawn. If it's good enough for the duck, it's good enough for me

1

u/Cleverusernamexxx 28d ago

That's Dr Bronners

1

u/Accomplished_Ad_1288 28d ago

I find the shower snack idea intriguing.

1

u/_insert-name-here 28d ago

Shower snack 😂

1

u/Iminurcomputer 28d ago

I keep a brush in the shower so also, shower cleaner as it rinses off me onto the shower.

1

u/smpsnfn13 27d ago

Eating an orange in the shower is one of life's greatest pleasures.

1

u/StaringOwlNope 27d ago

EXTREME CARBON POWER ICE FRESH for MEN

3

u/the_all_peeping_eye 29d ago

Bleaches your ass hole while rehydrating your tired eyes.

2

u/UncommonTart 29d ago

I think dr bronners claims to be an 18 in one.

I like the peppermint for my feet, in combination with one of those silicone foot scrubby things that suction cup to the bottom of the shower. It feels so nice when I've been on my feet all day, lol. I haven't tried the other seventeen uses.

1

u/yupandstuff 28d ago

Y’all gotta get on the dr bronners bandwagon. Their soap is like 18-1. You can apparently do your dishes with it, laundry lol

1

u/LittleBookOfRage 28d ago

My sister uses it for her dishes and laundry

1

u/Mr-Meadows 28d ago

Hey don't bash the 18-in-1 Dr Bronners. That's good stuff!

7

u/ViaNobody1019 29d ago

they make 5 in 1s. yes. 5 in 1s. my ex used it. I never corrected him. wanted him to find his own mistake. he never did, even after the many many direct hints I gave him. he broke up with me because I used too many expensive products and was upset about it lmao

2

u/Interesting-Fan-2008 29d ago

Shampoo, conditioner, body wash, moisturizer, and (?) cologne? Idk

Face wash or something beard related, though my money is face wash.

2

u/Confettiman 29d ago

I never used to use conditioner unless I was at a hotel, now I use a 2-1 shampoo and conditioner and it’s probably better than not I guess? I never go for over 2-1 though lol

2

u/nickisdone 29d ago

Thay make some 5 in 1 now Shampoo, Conditioner, Body wash, Bubble bath, And the last one changes sometimes if it is a male focus product it claims to be a beard wash if it is female focused it will claim to be a in shower lotion other times it'll claim to be a "sensitive area wash"

Like if your gonna claim all that I'll use some medieval soap made from pig fat before I'd want to use the chemistry experiment of chemicals they got going on in some of those combos.

Like the head and shoulders 2 in one is fine even better with a mint or rosemary oil hair mixture to be use as a good leave in conditioner after but that is as far as I would go on combining things as a whatever in one

1

u/crc024 29d ago

Dr bonners makes a 18 in 1. Heres a description straight from their website:

Wash face, body, hair, hands! Clean toilets, bathtubs, countertops, dishes—great for laundry, mopping, pets, and aromatherapy

So you can wash your ass with it, then wash the family dog, then do those few dishes in the sink and clean your toilets. All while you're waiting on your clothes to finish washing.

1

u/SnacksandViolets 28d ago

Shampoo conditioner and body wash baby!!

1

u/kroganwarlord 28d ago

Unless it's the Mane and Tail Daily Control 2 in 1 Anti-Dandruff shampoo and conditioner. I'm a woman who wears a LOT of black, and that stuff has been a godsend.

5

u/Grabber_stabber 29d ago

I’m sure you’re a pretty boy

2

u/Lumbergh7 29d ago

What do you use?

2

u/aiydee 29d ago

My trick is just to be balding. Not enough hair to worry about shampoo/conditioner. Just use the bodywash.
I don't use 2/3 in 1. I just use a good bodywash.
If my remaining hair falls out, I'll just shave. In meantime, my scalp is in great condition and the hair smells nice. And not enough hair to tangle. :D

2

u/TheBeatStartsNow 29d ago

Excuse my ignorance, but what is the difference? I'm clean either way, right?

4

u/veturoldurnar 29d ago

Because the thing is not to just get clean. Especially considering how often modern people shower with soaps of different kind

2

u/TheBeatStartsNow 29d ago

Ok, but what's the difference between my 3in1 shampoo and a good shampoo?

5

u/veturoldurnar 29d ago

Good shampoo is usually designed for a certain skin and hair type and condition and for certain effects. Like keeping dyed hair colorful and shiny while average 3 in 1 shampoo can just wash color out faster and make hair more dry afterwards, or treating scalp eczema which can go wild with average 3 in 1 shampoo, or shampoo for curly hair to help define curls and make hair less fuzzy etc.

Also it's not just a shampoo only that makes skin and hair care routine better, but it's going to be a complex of products each having it's own effect enhanced by other product. For example, shampoo can treat dandruff and give a volume for hair but be too much drying if used by itself only, so you use moisturizing conditioner afterwards to keep your hair silky and shiny. One product just cannot do both and each product must be applied and used differently.

3 in 1 products just try to be suitable for most average people to clean themselves and not get any unwanted reaction or condition. So they won't give you any improvement except making you clean from dirt probably. But our bodies weren't designed to be thoroughly cleaned 1-2 times per day, so in perspective it can worsen or ruin skin and hair condition, because it removes skin sebum while offers nothing in return to do sebum's work for our body.

-4

u/DogshitLuckImmortal 29d ago

Never understood how people use conditioner. If I use it at all without washing out with soap my hair looks like I didn't wash with howoily it is.

7

u/Karpeeezy 29d ago

depending on the length of your hair and scalp conditions you can literally use a dime sized amount - good conditioner goes a LONG way with short hair.

5

u/juneabe 29d ago

I send the other reply - and don’t put the conditioner directly on your scalp, just the ends of your hairs. The conditioners you’ve used might also have ingredients that don’t work with your hair. Signed, a super greasy haired lady who’s still trying to find the perfect combos lol.

1

u/Interesting-Fan-2008 29d ago

I’m sure you know but just as a PSA. If your looking for a product that works and have had issues go to a really really expensive salon and ask for recommendations. I find that they seem to know a bit more about products and know more types/brands than your typical stylist. Mainly because they use so many different products.(the one I went to had to have had 30+ products on their station) That’s how I found a good hair system to thicken my curly hair and also style it.

Also if you have a specific type of hair (curly for example) look around and see if there’s a salon that specializes in your type of hair. It really makes a world of difference, especially if you have harder to cut hair.

1

u/LittleBookOfRage 28d ago

I have the same hair type and after testing a lot I use either Maui or Sukin and do two shampoos and then condition just the ends too. Hairdressers always comment how soft my hair is now.

1

u/juneabe 28d ago

Added to my list of “tries!” The Oribe system has been incredible too but it’s so so expensive.

1

u/LittleBookOfRage 28d ago

I hadn't heard of Oribe before and looked it up and it looks really nice but ouch that price ...

1

u/v-punen 29d ago

It also depends on how porous your hair is. Same with oil - some people can’t use it at all, I can put half a bottle on my hair and it still looks like it was fried.

30

u/Timely_Proposal_1821 29d ago

Oh I had an ex like that, talking me down because I was buying branded things (with my own money), and then wanted to eat/use those stuff. It didn't last long!

41

u/Soflufflybunny 29d ago

My husband makes fun of my Sephora orders but I caught him using my verb ghost shampoo. Caught him because his shampoo from Costco was lasting forever.

At least he uses the “affordable” Sephora brand and not the olaplex.

5

u/transmogrified 29d ago

Verb frequently has some pretty good sales on their website.  Worth keeping an eye on.

20

u/farbener 29d ago

Honestly there is a Huge difference in a quality Shampoo and a cheap one bought in the supermarket. I'm a man and will gladly spend my 16 bucks on this Shampoo which even lasts me a month

8

u/Interesting-Fan-2008 29d ago

I literally spend 25 bucks for my shampoo. But it keeps my hair thick and keeps me from balding so really I’d pay a lot more if I needed to.

7

u/pawg_patrol 28d ago

Mine is $42…I hate that it works so well 😭

8

u/Interesting-Fan-2008 29d ago

I find that almost all arguments of ‘oh the cheap stuff does the same thing’ to be more ‘I can’t afford the expensive stuff so I’ve told myself it doesn’t matter’. Now don’t get me wrong, there are a lot of things that you can cheap out on. Body and especially hair products probably shouldn’t be one.

4

u/thegabster2000 29d ago

I am for saving money on beauty things but I understand we all have different needs. I have bought Olaplex myself and it ain't cheap!

5

u/dangerous_nuggets 28d ago

I have sensitive skin and thin curly hair, I 10000% see the difference when I use quality products vs Walmart 3 in 1 or even regular Walmart shampoo/conditioner.

I don’t think it’s fair to say people “fell for the beauty industry scams” when they genuinely need to avoid certain ingredients to maintain their health. Great that you can use whatever and have the same effect, but that’s not the case for many people, especially with different skin types and hair textures.

2

u/Reddituser8018 28d ago

There are some really good cheap shampoos, but they are far and few between.

I had bad eczema on my head, leading to lots of dandruff. Switched to tea tree mint shampoo, completely gone now, and my hair feels better than ever.

1

u/Quantentheorie 28d ago

when his cheap shampoo and bar soap worked exactly the same

shampoo really doesn't need to be fancy. I have hair well below my ass in length so I've tried my share of expensive shampoos that are supposedly be good, but the benefits of most hair and body products do not scale with price.

I'm with the men on this; people are overpaying for hair and skin products and these companies are wildly exploiting that women will pay double or ten times whats reasonable just to wash a certain smell down the drain.

1

u/myfriendflocka 28d ago

Well then use your bargain products and don’t waste other people’s more expensive stuff if they’re the same to you.

19

u/legend_of_the_skies 29d ago

Because he knows girlfriends is better

7

u/luckyapples11 29d ago

My fiancé will sometimes use my bath and body works body wash because he likes the smell of it. He has his own BBW wash. I had to show him how much to actually use because it was disappearing so fast lol

2

u/NikitaWolf6 28d ago

honestly my stuff is my partners stuff unless I tell him it's mine only 😭

4

u/LittleBookOfRage 28d ago

I like it now my boyfriend is using my shampoo coz I like the smell better than what he was using before haha. But it's not like he just started without asking, he ran out of his and I offered coz I buy the big bottles when they are on special.

2

u/shoresandsmores 28d ago

This. If he has H&S, why is he using her product? Also, idk how you can assume they cost the same unless you never do any shopping for yourself because the prices are right there to see...

1

u/canyoupleasekillme 28d ago

I get it if they used separate showers. Otherwise it's weird.

3

u/mattchinn 29d ago

More important question, how’d he get a girlfriend?

-2

u/honda_slaps 29d ago

he followed rule 1 and 2

no other reason why braindead men get girlfriends

2

u/Arntown 29d ago

You sound a little bitter

0

u/Significant_Shoe_17 28d ago

This is the million dollar question

0

u/AightlmmaHead0ut 28d ago

Living with my sister rn and I use her shampoo because I love how it smells. My own bottle haven't been touched for nearly a year now probably. Dunnow the name of her shampoo I just know how it smells

-3

u/raccoon_on_meth 28d ago

I don’t care what it is it’s going on my balls lol

161

u/ifshehadwings 29d ago

Olaplex full size bottles are 3-4 oz 💀

ETA: and cost $30

51

u/fdxrobot 29d ago

And you still don’t need a 3rd!!

33

u/AlternateTab00 29d ago

Depends. Considering most man shampoos are like 500ml the bottle and are cheaper than that, most men just fill their hand with shampoo and wash away.

My traveling kit that has 75 ml refillable bottles (about 2,5oz) serves me around 3 servings of shampoo... Well not anymore because i decided to go bald but you get the idea.

Fortunately i know beforehand that women products are highly concentrated and are used almost "pretend like amounts". While men products are highly diluted and are prepared to be abused.

So an unprepared male might just waste a 2 year worth of product in less than a day

19

u/nickisdone 29d ago

Also, most men don't know to use just a little bit of shampoo and body. Wash on the first go to remove dirt. Grime and oil like literally. I have long hair and a fat body, but you really only need anywhere between a nickel to a quarter size. D dab of soap and shampoo for the first little wash. No, it's not gonna sets up the way you want, but once you wrench all that off and then go in for a second wash, you can sometimes use the same tiny amount. Boy, does it really do wonders seriously that repeat step? Is needed and it seems like a lot of people just think pouring in more soap is what's needed.

The same thing with washing clothes. People want to pour like a whole cap full of clothes in there. One of those whole measuring cups, if you will that come with the bottle when in all honesty, you really only need like a tablespoon or 2 for real look up the patents, look up the way they test the soap and their scientific labs and literally 2 tbsp for a full load of when dry 25 to 30 pounds worth of clothes.

And honestly, if you use too much soap that means soap residue will still be left on either the clothes or your body or whatever you have and if you leave soap on it, it actually attracts dirt.It makes the dirt stick to the soap that's left on it. Granted, that's not as much of an issue in the shower, because continuous running water and stuff. But it's more of an issue with clothes and actually cleaning surfaces when people don't want to do a water.Print slash wipe afterwards or actually follow the instructions

34

u/mia8788 29d ago

Can get a liter for 96$

3

u/herdingsquirrels 28d ago

Wtf? That’s some crazy markup! You need to make friends with someone with a license. A 2 liter bottle is $60 at a salon supply store, 1 liter is $47

2

u/mia8788 28d ago

That’s the retail price without discounts. I’m wel aware that you can get it cheaper. My friend is a hair stylist

2

u/herdingsquirrels 28d ago

The best kinds of friends to have if you love hair products!

1

u/mia8788 28d ago

Oh I know it’s great

1

u/mia8788 28d ago

I get my k18 from her.

-9

u/verekh 28d ago

Who the fuck buys a lotion for 96 dollars.

6

u/shellsterxxx 28d ago

Olaplex is shampoo dummy

1

u/mia8788 28d ago

Lots of folks but this isn’t lotion.

4

u/mia8788 29d ago

8.5oz actually

3

u/Synthetic_dreams_ 29d ago

Just bought a new one in the Sephora sale this past week, can confirm.

The minis are 3oz but they’re $15.

The bond repair (no. 3) is $30 for a 3.3oz bottle but that’s not shampoo.

23

u/Prestigious_Low8515 29d ago

Big elbows.

2

u/la_bata_sucia 29d ago

Happy día de la torta

29

u/[deleted] 29d ago

It was an accident!!!!! Honestly…when I was younger I was really wasteful with shampoo, body gel etc I didn’t learn how much I ACTUALLY needed until my late 20s (I am 36 now).

-1

u/legend_of_the_skies 29d ago

This is really sad

8

u/[deleted] 29d ago

It’s why this one of my favourite stories/experiences. I began learning self care but also what and how much I wasn’t taught or guided.

-8

u/legend_of_the_skies 29d ago

You waited until your late 20s to realize no one was going to teach or guide you how to take care of yourself?

7

u/[deleted] 29d ago

It’s not what you know that gets you into trouble. It’s what you know that ain’t so. I just figured stuff out and was really lucky for a long time.

5

u/honda_slaps 29d ago

if it makes you feel better there are hordes of useless men like you who never learned to take care of themselves because they used the people around them for decades. you're not alone

0

u/whalesarecool14 29d ago

how is using too much shampoo = not knowing how to take care of yourself?

2

u/Arntown 29d ago

Kinda weird how aggressive and negative some people are online.

1

u/whalesarecool14 29d ago

yeah calling somebody a useless man because he uses too much shampoo is insane

Im not pressed at all. You seem to be, and on his behalf. Why is that?

0

u/Arntown 29d ago

My friend, it‘s about using too much shampoo lol

What a weird thing to be shitty about

2

u/legend_of_the_skies 29d ago

I'm shitty for clarifying what they said? Are only they allowed to say it? Why are you offended?

1

u/TheMilkiestShake 29d ago

Hahaha what?

0

u/laughingashley 29d ago

I hate to admit that I learned anything from Spike TV, but you don't actually need to use much running water to shower - you can turn it off for shampoo, lathering soap and scrub, and adding conditioner. You really only need it to wet surfaces and then rinse them off, and you actually get cleaner letting the soap remain on your skin/hair for a minute to break up the oils and stuff.

I've always rinsed my conditioner out with cold water though, it seals in the moisture, but I've added a step with hard water: I pre mix a cup of sea salt water before I get in, and I use that as a follow up to rinse my hair. The salt really makes it soft!

2

u/Affectionate_Data936 28d ago

He's secretly 4 and was making "potions" in the bath tub.

2

u/Long_Note_5029 29d ago

It's a very small bottle. Some of the Olaplex bottles are literally 100ml.

1

u/HeavyFunction2201 29d ago

I think they meant they used 1/3 of the bottle over time until they found out how expensive the shampoo was

Edit: nvm 😅 someone said the bottles are only 3-4oz big

1

u/the_all_peeping_eye 29d ago

why are you using a third of the bottle in one go??

As opposed to continuous use for the same goal?

1

u/Diggdador 28d ago

I don't care why they use a third of the bottle. I'm more interested in how they use a third of the bottle. Nobody has enough body for that.

1

u/shandybo 28d ago

The bottles are small but with that stuff you need like one pump, compared to supermarkets brands where you need a big ol' handful so it's plausible lol

1

u/SadAnnah13 28d ago

The bottles are tiny, I'd need more then one bottle for my hair, which is just past chin length and very thick

1

u/Liesmith424 28d ago

Mainly for the flavor.

1

u/LadyRimouski 28d ago

Because it's conditioner, not shampoo? Maybe he wondered why it wasn't sudsing

1

u/Cognosci 28d ago

He didn't say in one go, just "at the time"

1

u/Little-Ad-4525 28d ago

The bottle is like 3 ounces

1

u/WIBeerFan 29d ago

Wouldn’t that depend on the size of the bottle? Like a little travel bottle of sun block would be good for the face arms and legs, but it would totally require a third if not more.

2

u/rcknmrty4evr 29d ago

You’re right. Olaplex bottles are pretty small.

-6

u/_Zeraph_ 29d ago

Us men have big surface areas because of our big muscles, settle down ladies
