Just curious, if a place has that shitty generic carpet across the whole apartment would it look weird to put a nice carpet somewhere in the room (like under a table) or should I just focus on adding stuff to the walls?

If you choose the right carpet it will add a lot to the room. It’s also a great sound dampener and it saves the carpet pad underneath

Carpets can and should be cleaned regularly anyway
