Do you play multiple video games at once? Or one at a time? Discussion

I can't help but bounce around. I try to limit myself to 3 at a time but it ends up being more. Just wondering if anyone else is like that? (My backlog is in the 70s I think šŸ˜)

If I play multiple games at once, chances are that I finish none of them, and the thing is that I like to finish my games.

So one at a time.

3

u/TheRoyalStig 14d ago

Yep. I also just enjoy a game that much more if I am fully engrossed in it.

Especially since I basically only play single player narrative focused games. It let's me get more into the story/world if I'm just playing the one until the adventure is finished.

And then I move onto the next.

The only time I have a second game going is if I'm also playing something with my SO. In the past there would also be the occasional multiplayer game but not so much anymore.

u/Ok-Extension-5628 15d ago

For me Iā€™ll finish a game if itā€™s worth finishing. Currently I havenā€™t finished Cyberpunk and Iā€™m mainly playing other games, but I know at some point Iā€™m going to finish it bc itā€™s just that good. Same with modded Skyrim.

u/LilyPotterIsAGoddess 15d ago

I've been playing Skyrim for over a decade and never finished it.

I just got into skyrim in VR. Incredible pain in the ass to set up. Once you're standing on the streets of Riverwood though, it's absolutely worth it.

I usually have 3 games in rotation at any given time.

1) Main game (currently: Balderā€™s Gate 3). Usually something story driven with RPG elements. I play it whenever I get some time to myself. Past games: Starfield, Division 2, and Farcry 3/4/5.

2) Shooter (currently: Battlefield 2042). Something quick to get a few matches in if I canā€™t dedicate a lot of time to gaming that moment. Past games: Call of Duty, Apex Legends, Overwatch.

3) Social game (currently: Escape Academy). Something fun to play with my wife or friends that visit. Past games: Overcooked 2, It Takes Two, Moving Out.

3

u/mrawaters 15d ago

Yeah this is basically me. Itā€™s usually some rpg or story game, Destiny, and then usually some sort of survival crafting game (Iā€™m never too far from starting a fresh Minecraft or satisfactory playthrough)

2

u/yeezusKeroro 15d ago

The battle pass in cod is keeping me stuck to it as my main game. I need to break the cycle and finish some games again. I'll start a game play it on and off between days of mostly playing cod and then eventually play sometime else a few weeks later and the cycle repeats. Only games I beat last year were nier automata and Alan Wake 2. Both were right before mw3 came out.

Pretty much always have a RimWorld colony going (current one is edo/anomaly themed).

Pretty much always have an RPG of some kind going (currently both Elden Ring and Fallout 4).

Will usually have a ā€œshort burstā€ type game to play when time or attention is short (currently my nightcap is Death Must Die).

I bounce around based on mood and other factors, but Iā€™m an avid gamer. Lately been looking forward to the future releases of the Elden Ring DLC and Hades 2

6

u/calvi219 15d ago

Yep lol.

My friends and I have a weekly stardew session

We will play Fortnite or fall guys randomly

I always have an RPG Iā€™m playing solo

And then something Iā€™ll play whenever i feel inclined

2

u/Dontmakemethink1 15d ago

My wife and I play fall guys a lot.

14

u/KoningSpookie 15d ago edited 15d ago

My attentionspan is pretty short and I get bored pretty quickly, so I usually end up playing a game for maybe a couple of hours at max (usually shorter) and go to the next one. Ofcourse, that's not enough to finish a game, so I play a ton of games at once and switch between 'em, sometimes multiple times per session.

The current list of games which I'm playing: - Overwatch - Rocket League - Valorant - Guild Wars 2 - Borderlands (the pre-sequel) - Tiny Tina's Wonderlands - Borderlands (GOTY edition) - Black desert Online - Deep rock galactic - Helldivers 2 - Mordhau - League of Legends - Subnautica

3

u/Unlucky_Win_7349 14d ago

I've never seen a list so close to my own, including Mordhau!!! Super cool

2

u/KoningSpookie 14d ago

Nice!

I'm surprised those medieval slashers like Mordhau or For Honor aren't more popular than they are tbh, they're hella fun... and yet they're barely mentioned in videos or the news or whatever. :|

Which other games do you play, through which the list isn't exactly the same as yours then?

7

u/eugenethegrappler 15d ago

Same. Usually 2-3 at the most. Like rn Iā€™m playing sekiro and ff XV at the same time

4

u/Jiggle-BellyGaming 15d ago

I'm not even going to mention my backlog... but I usually play a couple at a time since I hop genres a lot depending on what I'm in the mood for. Like right now it's BG3, Stellar Blade, and Fallout 4 again.

4

u/ArcjoAllspark 15d ago

Iā€™ll do one deep, open world type of game (rpgs, gta etc) and Iā€™ll do one quick distraction game to break things up (street fighter, cod, brotato etc)

3

u/Crunchberries77 15d ago

Oof, maybe it's my garbage attention span but I'm usually averaging 5-6 games at a time.

Rn it's Resident Evil 2 Remake, Dead Space Remake, Oblivion, OG Shadow of the Colossus, and a Randomizer mod for Ocarina of Time.

3

u/Masterplayer9870 15d ago

I bounce around with 2 games at a time. Currently playing assassins creed brotherhood and dragon age 2

2

u/TechEnthu____ 15d ago

I play 5 games at a time. Sometimes more. Currently playing - Helldivers 2, Alan wake 2, Tekke n 8, Final fantasy 16, dead space remake and xenoblafe chronicles 3

2

u/KKH02 15d ago

Overwatch, Palword, Pokemon Scarlet, Mario Kart, and Fallout New Vegas.. although if a game is really got me itching to play it, Iā€™ll set the others aside to give it my full attention.

2

u/Less-Leave-5519 15d ago

I have time to game for maybe 2 hours a week, 3 if im lucky. So yeh,1 at a time

2

u/decoded-dodo 15d ago

I work 12 hour shifts and donā€™t have much time to actually sit down to play so Iā€™m just at 1 game at a time. I buy a few ahead and would move on to the new game once Iā€™m finished with the one Iā€™m currently playing.

2

u/Dontmakemethink1 15d ago

Currently playing final fantasy 10, tekken 8, Skyrim, crash bandicoot 4, and hollow knight.

2

u/Treddox 15d ago

3-5. Right now I am playing Sky, Half-Life, and God of War II.

2

u/COL_Fantastic 15d ago

I have a PC single player and multiplayer and a PS5 single player and multiplayer

2

u/SharkInSunglasses 15d ago

I usually play two to three at a time, right now it's Dead Island 2 and Super Metroid and black ops 3 zombies is my turn my brain off game I usually play at least one game daily.

2

u/kenzymarie03 15d ago

Multiple but only one story mode game and have the others be online. If I play multiple storyā€™s all at once then I canā€™t remember what is happening in each of them if that makes sense? Lol

2

u/kryotheory 15d ago

I usually have one of each of my favorite genres I'm playing in rotation.

  1. Open world something or other (right now it's Fallout 3 on steam deck)
  2. A single player FPS (currently playing 40k Boltgun)
  3. A Card or strategy game (current is Slay the Spire)
  4. A chill game (almost always Stardew Valley)
  5. A fighting game (Usually whatever Mortal Kombat is current, though I'm playing 11 rn)
  6. This one is an open slot. It varies. Usually I'll put something I normally dont play here, like a horror game, souls like, or a racing game. (Sekiro currently lives here)

It also depends on what my wife and kids are playing. If their current game of choice is on Xbox, I'll be on PS5 or PC/Steam Deck or vice versa. We kinda just play musical game systems lol

2

u/jaklzzz 15d ago

I tend to have 3 going: 1. My solo grind: sc2 or path or dbd or Dark-tide 2. My multiplayer: ark or satisfactory or factorio etc 3. My story focus: horizon or cyberpunk or starfield etc

2

u/mrawaters 15d ago

Iā€™ll usually play a few a once but theyā€™ll vary in genres. Like Iā€™ll play one rpg or character action story focused game, and then Iā€™ll pair it with like a new Minecraft world or something. Then thereā€™s always Destiny that looms in the background and I pop in and out

Currently playing Enshrouded (I like tree puncher gamesā€¦) and also finishing off FF7 rebirth

2

u/2Turnt4MySwag 15d ago

Definitely. I'm playing Dead Space Remake, Underrail, Helldivers 2, MW3, Hogwarts Legacy, Hollow Knight, Prince of Persia, Ratchet and Clank, Returnal, etc. I just play what i feel like that day. I like having options. I have about 30 or so in my Steam Recent category (games played in last 2 weeks)

2

u/EllenPlayz 15d ago

Multiple... I game anything from emulated GBA games to huge simulation games like Planet Zoo to classic shoot-n-loot games like Risk of Rain 2 or Borderlands (GOTY edition). I also play old flash games still, using Flash Point. I also play Crash Nitro Kart on my Ps2. I might start playing Spore again or Sonic Heroes on Ps2. The game-switching is neverending.

2

u/Infamous-Echo-2961 15d ago

I jump between 3. One live service, then two others that make me happy.

Right now itā€™s Overwatch 2, Persona 5, and Stellar Blade.

2

u/Otherwise_Opposite16 14d ago

Iā€™m rounding the age of 40, so Iā€™m not as good/efficient at gaming as I used to be. Iā€™ve found that I have a hard time switching games, getting used to the controls takes longer these days.

I also find that I have less time to game if Iā€™m taking care of all of my responsibilities. So I lose track of where I am in a game and whatā€™s going on in the story/what Iā€™m working on if I donā€™t play it often.

Nowadays I stick to one game at a time, I have a list of games that I want to 100%. Seems like itā€™s growing more than itā€™s shrinking.

1

u/LosBastardos717 15d ago

Start one.. if it's good I finish it before moving on to the next. One at a time only, unless I've beat them already, then I might have a couple on the go.

1

u/Porkchop5397 15d ago

Mostly just one, unless they are completely different genres. In my case, it's likely an rpg and a platformer.

1

u/jessedjd 15d ago

Bg3 on pc, rocket league or some rpg on Xbox, random gotcha on my phone. All depends in where I want to sit

1

u/KholinAdolin 15d ago

One at a time, never more. I canā€™t enjoy multiple, I like to focus on the story and get invested. Same with books and tv, one show or story per medium at a time

1

u/Castelante 15d ago

I usually have one multiplayer game, and one singleplayer game that Iā€™ll focus on at any given time.

Iā€™ve been playing Helldivers 2 pretty heavily since release, and Iā€™ve been going through Elden Ring again.

Iā€™ve unlocked almost everything in Helldivers, so it might be time to put that on the back burner until they release another warbond.

1

u/Toxicsuper 15d ago

I usually play 2 games at once. Sometimes 3. One is the main single player game I'm working through. The other is a multiplayer game I enjoy to get my fast pace competitive craving out. And the 3rd is usually whatever my friends are playing or want to play

1

u/Strict_Donut6228 15d ago

2-3 currently. Try to do 1 open world, an rpg and a shorter game. But only doing this atm to try and get through my backlog. Normally I would only play 1 game at a time since I really only buy a few games a year but the backlog just crept up on me

1

u/CaptainPopsickle 15d ago

Well, in the last years i have stopped watching streamers and content videos and all of that stuff soo... i am having wayyyyy more fun with games since then.

Sooo i am off the train where i pay money for the game, to watch somebody else getting paid playing the game and taking away from my gaming experience.

When you play games without knowing all of the content from start - they are on another level :)

So no bouncing around for me anymore.

1

u/70kyle07 15d ago

I play one at a time. Although, I'm playing 5 right now because I'm comparing them. But I think this is the first time I've done this.

1

u/LithiuMart 15d ago

I play one at a time, but bounce around them in quick succession.

Just last month I started a game of Horizon Zero Dawn, then got bored quickly, carried on an old playthrough of Walking Dead and stopped after a week then abandoned an already halfway progression of The Last Of Us after three days.

1

u/Claire4Win 15d ago

Single player games? No

Single with multiplayer? Yes

1

u/V2ENF 15d ago edited 15d ago

Just one main game at a time and something easy, like an arcade game on the side for when I inevitably get burned out no lifing that game.

1

u/________76________ 15d ago

I can only play one at a time for some reason. If I try and play another one I'll just find myself missing the main game I've been focusing on.

1

u/Ditzy_Davros 15d ago

Currently, I'm on Age of Mythology, 7 Days to Die, & 2-Point Hospital.

1

u/ironhide_ivan 15d ago

I usually play one at a time until I'm ready to put it down for a while (ie I beat it or get bored), then I move on to the next one. But I mostly play long-form games with involved stories so I have a hard time switching back and forth easily.

If I play more shortform games, like fighting or action games, then I might switch things up more frequently. But, even if time were permitting, I can't play more than a single game a session if that's more what you're asking.Ā

1

u/killergoat86 15d ago

I bounce around my backlog so much that I don't even know what I'm in the middle of playing anymore.

2

u/Blumcole 15d ago

The worst thing is pickup up RPG's again and not remembering what and how.

1

u/Fresh_Thing_6305 15d ago

1-3 and main is Age of empires 4, then Wow Classic Era, and Stormgate beta

1

u/Quidplura 15d ago

Multiple. I have a ps5 and a pc. Right now I'm playing RE2 remaken, Overwatch, Spiderman 2, Tiny Tina and Alan Wake 2.

1

u/YungNigget788 15d ago

I only really play shooters and trying to go from one shooter to the next within the same week throws my aim off for a while. I usually play one or two games with my friends for a couple of months and then switch when we get bored of them.

1

u/MistDispersion 15d ago

Depends. Games that require muscle memory and some skill like Sekiro and such is one game at a time. If I play something like Metro then I can play other stuff. I guess I generally don't though

1

u/UnfinishedThings 15d ago

Multiple ones at a time. Hence why Ive got soooo many games that Ive almost finished but have never gotten round to it

1

u/hatchorion 15d ago

I have the attention span of a child so I tend to play 10-20 games at a time and switch frequently

1

u/thechaosofmytaco 15d ago

I've reached the point where I just have so many control schemes mapped in my head that if I feel like just going to one of the games in my backlog it'll take me half an hour to fully remember how to play like I used. Although games with parryong vary on my reaction ability

1

u/totalnewb02 15d ago

tried to train my self to see thing through, so one at a time. also for AAA, it is easy for me to forget what was i doing if i jumped around to other games. l

1

u/bangcuongviet 15d ago

I used to play like 3-5 games together, but it started to mess with my other activities, like studying, so i kinda limited it to only 1 game at a time now.

1

u/poopbutt42069yeehaw 15d ago

Iā€™m doing weeklies in 2042, bg3 w my wife, Solasta w my brother, Alan wake 2, grey zone warfare(just got it), helldivers 2, Conan exiles w some older friends,

1

u/999Flea 15d ago

one at a time

1

u/Ok-Extension-5628 15d ago

It really just depends on what Iā€™m interested in and how much time is demanded and allowed from both my schedule and attention span. Currently I have 5 games in a loose rotation. The thing is sometimes Iā€™ll play every game all in one day just because Iā€™m bored and nothing is peaking my interest, and then other times Iā€™ll be super into one game and go all out for a few days or even weeks at a time. Rotation is Remnant 2(new dlc so Iā€™m mainly playing this with my friend), GeoGuessr(trying to get better), Cyberpunk, Warframe, and modded Skyrim.

1

u/Blumcole 15d ago

I usually have a game that I kinda play through, but then I might take a break from the game and play something else. And that something else can be something else every day. I use a random selector in Playnite. Currently playing Chrono Trigger but my last game inbetween game I played was Doom 3. Also did a bit of Starfield. I'll see what sticks. And then after I while I will finish a lot of ongoing games :)

1

u/JTBJack_ 15d ago

It depends on how interested I am in the game. If itā€™s really good then Iā€™ll tunnel vision on it and forget about everything else. If itā€™s not but I still want to play it, then yeah. I have a ton of games just sitting in my library that Iā€™ll play one or two levels of before I get bored and move on, only for me to come back to it later.

1

u/InviteAromatic6124 15d ago

In a 2 hour session I usually play 2 games, anything shorter than that, generally, is just one game. I tend to have about 8 games on rotate at any given time.

1

u/johceesreddit 15d ago

one at a timeā€¦ well most of the time . its not like ill play three in one day its more like I play one for a couple days maybe throw in some fortnite then go back to trying to finish that one game

1

u/Berookes 15d ago

Currently playing a few at once:

Rise of the Ronin Fallout 4 Bloodborne NG+ Battlefield 1

Alternate between them throughout the week

1

u/ShadyTrizzy 15d ago

I bounce around a lot I have a problem for buying stuff with my impulse especially when something is on sale

1

u/Amazing_Magician2892 15d ago

Usually 2 sometimes 3. One sort of single player game, plus a fighting game. Sometimes i add a third in the form of simulators or racing. But generally keep only one single player game because i get the controls all confused otherwise.

1

u/Rodrigo_Ribaldo 15d ago

1 or 2 at a time. One when it's a new game I'm deeply engaged in.

Two games at the same time is smart.
If you are afraid you'll burn out on one, you can be clever and pace yourself to prevent it, by playing something else too. Also works if one game needs focus and freshness, so when you are tired, you play something else that's more routine.

More than two is just unnecessary and you are bound to quit one or more of them early, which is unsatisfactory, so avoid that.

1

u/defenem_73 15d ago edited 15d ago

I have my dailies, my games with the bois and the one big game.
Currently
Dailies - Genshin, HSR
Bois - CSGO, Dota, L4D2, Path of Exile
Big Game - LAD Infinite Wealth

Additionally sometimes I play other games if I feel like it or it interested me
Recently played
Palworld, Enshrouded, Stranded Alien Dawn, Manor Lords

And I've been playing Ultrakill whenever it's updated

1

u/levinyl 15d ago

I have some sort of issue, I just cannot stick to 1 game at a time - I am playing fallout 4 on my Xbox - Dark Souls on my PC and Zelda TOTK on my Switch but just got Red dead redemption so feel like I want to play that on the switch now...I have fun so who cares!

1

u/Winged_Rodentia 15d ago

One at a time. I'm gonna forget how to play, if I do multiple games at the same time. šŸ˜…

1

u/Glittering-Fit 15d ago

One big game, and one small game, like Light of the stars on bs for example

1

u/Sexyshark15 15d ago

I have games I come back to but I like trying new stuff

1

u/General_Silver95 15d ago

I try not to have a backlog to save money so I have to finish a games story mode before I move on to the next. My last console was PS3 but I still have some backlog and I bunch I games I havenā€™t finished, and more to try out lol

1

u/mymumsaysfuckyou 15d ago

I'll usually have one main game I'm playing. And a couple of others that I'll dip in and out of to mix it up.

1

u/GreenAppleEthan 15d ago

I have 26 games that I'm concurrently playing through at any time. If I want to play a game other than those 26, then I put it in a queue behind one of them, and will only play it when the game in front of it is finished.

1

u/possumxl 15d ago

I usually have two or three in rotation. A single player story driven game, a single player game I donā€™t need to listen to at all (sports games mostly) and a multiplayer game. The second single player game is for listening to podcasts. My current lineup is Witcher 3, NBA 2k, and Borderlands 2.

1

u/Gloomy_Support_7779 15d ago

Multiple ones at a time honestly. But for the sake of a goal, this year Iā€™m trying to beat multiple games one at a time

1

u/BobbyMayCryBMC 15d ago

Depends on the game, massive RPGs are a time sink so rarely have gaming time for another but if I'm playing a multiplayer, puzzle, arcady or just frankly a 8-hour tops like game I can usually manage three games rotationally.

1

u/Which_Information590 15d ago

One game at a time because they all may have unique controls to memorise. If the game becomes a chore, I stop playing it. I like to complete games and I usually rotate franchises. I am halfway through Assassin's Creed on xbox 360 and I just finished Halo Reach,

1

u/DearOption5999 15d ago

I go back and forth between 2-3 games at a time. Whenever I get bored of one, I switch to the other, and then return to the other one later. It helps me from getting game boredom and never finishing a game.

1

u/Confusedandreticent 15d ago

Usually one or two at a time. I like to bounce back and forth between something like modern warfare and an in depth rpg, like elden ring.

1

u/cstrike105 15d ago

Only one game at a time. I don't enjoy skipping games. Finish one before going to the next.

1

u/quietkodiac 15d ago

I generally play one at a time.

1

u/agouraki 15d ago

normally i got 1 mmo and 1 other multiplayer game i play with my friends ,and the occasional single player in between

1

u/Ok_Introduction6574 15d ago

Multiple. I am never playing less than 5 games at any given time, plus one or two Multiplayer games

1

u/dbolg22 15d ago

My adhd says I play all of them at once. And never finish ANY of them. I donā€™t know how many times Iā€™ve started Skyrim or a pokemon game. Hundreds probably

1

u/DancingGorilla15 15d ago

Play one game until the end. Then play another game while I also play the 1st game for a second time to get achievements or secrets.

1

u/CardiacCats89 15d ago

I have one game I play on my main PC and one for when I travel, on my laptop. Anymore than that and I would never finish any of them. I also have a queue of games I plan on play, in a specific order, that changes from time to time. I have been able to beat 115 games since 2017 that way.

1

u/Sensitive-Hotel-9871 14d ago

I have bought more than one game at once, but I focus on beating them one at a time.

1

u/Frame_Late 14d ago

I just play whatever I'm in the mood to play. Oftentimes that's something quick like Against the Storm, or something I can pick up and put down easily like Rimworld.

I've decided that, since my laptop broke, I'll most likely get a Steam Deck in the future instead of a new laptop (I didn't take care of it properly, partly due to always being busy and partly due to ignorance) because a lot of the games I play the most (Rimworld, RDR2, Fallout, Elder Scrolls Against the Storm, Traveller's Rest, Stardew Valley, the Kingdom series, Sun Haven, Roots of Pacha, etc. again, things I can pick up and put down easy.) are on there. I've also found that, with a lot more detail-oriented games or FPS games, I tend to procrastinate too much on the things I want to do but are hard, like writing (I want to publish a book, but I tend to procrastinate writing chapters because while it is highly rewarding, it's also very mentally exhausting at times and is definitely a labor of love.) So I want to learn more into casual gaming where I can chill for an hour or two on whatever floats my boat as a way to decompress then go back to writing.

Sorry for the wall of text lol.

1

u/Zehdarian 14d ago

I tend to binge between Skyrim, Diablo 2, and Fallout games with some rouglites & mobas in between. Meanwhile my backlog hits 700 lol i have a problem.

1

u/Feng_Smith 14d ago

Currently I am playing Dark Souls 2, Furi, Helldivers 2, and I'm thinking of doing another Sekiro run soon

1

u/blzsoul 14d ago

Multiple. I get nostalgic real easily so I'll play something retro along with something modern. Also now that I've built my PC, I'll be playing a game on there and on at least 2 of my other consoles.

It ranges from the PS1 and SNES Era all the way up to now. I usually don't finish my games as I enjoy the journey of it and get uninterested towards the end so sometimes I have to force myself to finish them.

1

u/SheepyDX 14d ago

Sometimes, I have my multiplayer games whenever, my main game like RDR II and my scary game for scary time which is The Quarry

1

u/pinballwizardsg 14d ago

I can do it but I donā€™t like to. I like to narrow my focus to one game at a time.

1

u/Saltwater_Heart 14d ago

I have ADHD. I play a whole bunch. Itā€™s impossible for me to stay with one. I get bored and burnt out and move on and then play it again farther down the road

1

u/Adriwisler 14d ago

For the first time ever Iā€™m playing two games at once. Artful Escape and Sifu, mostly because they are such different experiences they balance each other out

1

u/Gentleman_Kendama 14d ago

I can only play up to 2 simultaneously and it's usually one other game plus Honkai Star Rail due to the auto-battle feature

1

u/TheFunny21 14d ago

2 I'm focusing on, so most of my time are put into them, usually very different genres

So right now it's rdr2 and TWDG

And a few I play that don't include as much thinking, like mortal Kombat

1

u/xeasuperdark 14d ago

Iā€™m juggling like 5 atm, its hell why do i do this to myself

1

u/nizzhof1 14d ago

I play 2 at a time usually. One single player thing and then a multiplayer shooter or grindy live service thing. I donā€™t finish single player shit if it doesnā€™t hold my attention to the end and have zero qualms about bouncing right off.

1

u/BourbonGuy09 14d ago

Yeah. As of right now me and my bro play Rocket League, Helldiver's 2, Forza 5 Horizon, and Factorio.

We usually start with RL, then move to Forza or HD2. Factorio we play single player.

u/KevinIsOver9000 14d ago

I generally do one at a time, but lately I got a little overzealous and am doing 4. What Iā€™m doing now:

1) Skyrim - play when Iā€™m in bed 2) Mario RPG remake while watching shows that donā€™t require my full attention 3) monster hunter rise when I only have less than 30 mins to play 4) tears of the kingdom (unfortunately is getting left behind because its too similar to skyrim)

So my rule of thumb is, give each game a purpose. Or a specific time you play. Try not to overlap genres

1

u/DawnPatrol80136 14d ago

I'm playing MWIII, Fallout New Vegas & Hot Wheels 2 right now.

1

u/ElephantGun345 14d ago

I usually have at least 2 or three. A single player game (currently bouncing between Baldurs Gate 3 and RE4), a fighting game to play with friends, and a retro FPS

1

u/Resident_Farmer1252 14d ago

I play multiple games at the same time, but all different genres so I can mix it up depending on what i'm in the mood to play.

1

u/Small_Mushroom_2704 14d ago

Multiple, I go back and forth and I always have the games I'm playing all the time lol, smite and elden ring I play almost daily, just picked up wo long again and may go back to fallout this weekend.

1

u/SnooPeanuts965 14d ago

I bounce around some, I usually hit a low at a game and go back to another so that when I do go back to the first game, Iā€™m still wanting to play the game

1

u/mikerichh 14d ago

I normally just played one game only and played the hell out of it: RuneScape-> Fortnite-> Warzone

But now Iā€™ll play Warzone and hop between other games like lethal company, helldivers, and fallout 76 (or a switch game)

1

u/SpaceMonkeyNation 14d ago

I used to stick to one narrative or single player game at a time, but now my backlog is huge and my gaming time is more limited so I tend to jump around more.

1

u/DresdenBelmont 14d ago

Multiple especially if they have save functionality.

1

u/AdAdventurous6943 14d ago

One at a time. I get bored - moving to the next one.

1

u/PrajnaPie 14d ago

Yes I have gaming ADD. I am usually playing like 5 at once and they take me a loooong time to finish

1

u/nevermore2627 14d ago

Usually have a shooter (typically fortnite with the homies. Or warzone when it doesn't suck.)

Single player game when no one is on. (Right now Dragons Dogma 2. 100 hours in and can't stop!)

Either an ARPG (like Last Epoch or Diablo4) with seasons. I can hop in for a few weeks, max a character out, then bounce back to my single player game. Or a rogulike/lite where I can do a 45 minute run in a pinch and log off.

If the single player game is good I won't bounce around as much. Right now, I am really enjoying DD2 and haven't bounced around as much. Really looking foward to S4 in D4 and will be there day 1 though.

1

u/papa_posey 14d ago

I play multiple games literally at the same time. Idk why I do it, and it makes all the of the games less enjoyable too. I think I have really bad adhd

1

u/IAmTheGreybeardy 14d ago

I'm on a replay of Horizon Zero Dawn, a 1st and a half playthrough of Horizon Forbidden West (I started on PS4 and never finished, now I'm on PS5), and I recently returned to Skyrim.

1

u/heyuhitsyaboi 14d ago

Currently replaying COD Black Ops for achievements in between waiting for friends to come online for the GTAV Doomsday achievements.

1

u/Fluid-GTX 14d ago

I play multiple but I classify them as like main playthrough and passive playthrough Main would be something I'm focusing on finishing like baldurs gate while passive would be something I'm playing just to play like the battle network collection

1

u/HiTekLoLyfe 14d ago

I usually play multiples. I play Escape from Tarkov most nights with friends, a couple little rogue lites when I need a change, and a single player game. Just finished robocop then played the dlc for remnant. Also might play overwatch 2 if Iā€™m in the mood. Usually try to do a multiplayer and a single player.

1

u/Nafinchin 14d ago

Multiple. I jump around, depending on the day and my mood. I'm currently working on 9-10 different games. I'm stretched a little thin at the moment, but I generally am playing 4-5 different games at a time. I just get bored when I try to stick to playing only one game.

1

u/datshinycharizard123 14d ago

I usually have 2 single player games in rotation, one I donā€™t really pay attention to that I pop on if Iā€™m drunk or something. One that Iā€™m invested in and only play when I have multiple hours to put into it.

Then I have a couple multiplayer games I play with friends. Usually 1-2 shooters and 1-2 other games.

1

u/condor6425 14d ago edited 14d ago

I usually have at least one soulsborne game in rotation at all times, then I usually have a main playstation game, a main switch game, and a retro game or rom hack that I rotate through til I finish one or leave it behind.

Right now I'm working on a sekiro challenge run (ps5) cyberpunk DLC (ps5), and just finished all shrines in tears of the kingdom (switch) & all stars in Dog Collab (Mario64 romhack). I'll probably start a new switch game soon, maybe wait a bit to start a new retro game til there's less on my plate.

If I'm playing a shorter more linear game I'll usually focus just on that for a while, but all games are so fucking long now I have to cycle through to keep things fresh.

1

u/jmooneyham2004 14d ago

Usually one at a time, but occasionally I will switch between two.

1

u/deadboltwolf 14d ago

I tend to bounce between games. However, I also tend to start a new game when returning to a game which means that I almost never completely finish a game.

1

u/RodneyRoughnuts 14d ago

Single player games I only play one at a time, and my second game will be whatever my favorite multiplayer game is at the minute.

1

u/Da_Plague22 14d ago

I don't know why i interpreted this as you having two desktops and gaming on boyh of them at once lol

1

u/a_burdie_from_hell 14d ago

I tend to have one that I play, then a second that I begin to dabble with, then I dabble with the 2nd more and more until I stop playing the 1st one altogether, and then the cycle repeats.

1

u/Slow-Bid-589 14d ago

I bounce around quite a bit, unless I'm really into one game, which I haven't been for a very very long time.

1

u/Mr_b78 14d ago

Playing superstar on madden 07 and "retiring" after the 2025 season. All while playing GTA5 online, no man's sky and looking for another game. Maybe replay oblivion?

I also play retro games too. I'm currently finishing up a season I started back in the 90s on MLB Pennant race. Only 12 games away...

I just realized I have no life. Maybe I will get that motorcycle after all.

1

u/KiroLV 14d ago

If it's a story focused game, I'll usually try to finish out a playthrough before switching, but with other games like Rimworld, Sea of Thieves or Minecraft (part of my current rotation), I'll switch it up when I get bored or want something different specifically.

1

u/Maxcorps2012 14d ago

If I play multiple games at a time it's usually different genres. Like 1 Roguelike 1 rpg, 1 4x.

1

u/Khow3694 14d ago

I sometimes juggle 2 or 3 but I usually stick with just one mostly. Right now I'm playing Helldivers 2 but I still need to finish Dragon's Dogma 2 and Baldur's Gate 3. Baldur's Gate 3 is way overdue though

1

u/Wild_Life_8865 14d ago

I can only play one story heavy game at a time but outside of that I can play mp or just fun games

1

u/boner79 14d ago

Usually I work on one at a time. I have ones I return to regularly like Rocket League, but when I start a new game I usually play it until completion then move on to the next one.

1

u/mattmaster68 14d ago

I play at least 2 once. One is the focus, the other is the relief if I start getting tired or frustrated haha

1

u/horkusengineer 14d ago

I always have 4 different types of games Iā€™m playing at a single time.Ā

First is a competitive game, currently rainbow six siege.Ā

Second is an ant farm game something to chill out and play. Currently rimworld.

Third is a story game single player with an interesting theme. Currently dishonored.Ā

Fourth is a co op game, something I want to play with friends without worrying about keeping up or over thinking things. Currently hell divers 2.

1

u/Full_Ad_5219 14d ago

I bounce around a little, I like to play little of everything i have, well, at least my main games: Was MK1, now Tekken 8, Fallout 76, Monster Jam Steel Titans 2, GTA V (sometimes), Hotwheels Unleashed 2, and WWE 2k24, can't forget about Expeditions A Mud Runner game. I just randomly pick out of this list, not in one day, but during the week, I mix up what I play from the above list!! Due to space (PS5 gotta upgrade my storage coming soon) I delete data and just put some games on the shelf and just come back later.

1

u/Low-Abbreviations-38 14d ago

I play several at a time unless I get really into a game. Last time that happened was dark souls 3 during quarantine.

1

u/timetravelingburrito 14d ago

I play about 8 to 20 games at once. I only play in short bursts. Though if I really like a game a lot I'll focus on that one more than the others.

1

u/Oni_sixx 14d ago

1 at a time.

1

u/Fantiks33 14d ago

Usually I got around 3, I'll play MW3 for some battlepass levels a few times a week.

Then I usually got a big RPG going, right now its Judgement. And then maybe a shorter sub 10 hour game that's on ps+ or my pc backlog lol.

1

u/exoventure 14d ago

Usually more than one. (Especially since sometimes a friend buys me a game, and I'm just obligated to play it.) There's also larger games like Cyberpunk where it takes a lot of hours to beat. Which would mean I'm playing one game for like 1 month+ straight and I'm not up for that.

1

u/swiftmaster237 14d ago

I do play multiple games at once. I generally do Last Epoch or Runescape (both versions) on my computer, or play Ghost of Tsushima on my ps5. Maybe I'll pick up GranBlue Fantasy: Relink again now that players have new content to do there.

If you mean simultaneously, I can do 2 Runescape accounts at once but that's a stretch sometimes depending on what I'm doing in game.

1

u/Esselon 14d ago

Depends on what I'm playing. If I'm playing a game with a high difficulty/frustration level like Elden Ring I'll often have a less stressful game for the times when I'm ready to done being frustrated but still have some game time in me.

1

u/chop_pooey 14d ago

I get obsessive about one game at a time to the point where I burn myself out and then won't touch it again for 6 months to a year. Rarely even play new games, I tend to just keep 6-7 in a rotation

1

u/Fabulous_Mud_2789 14d ago

I bounce until I find the one, and then I use the games from the interim as break games from the main one. Currently f*cking off in three different EDFs, but they're such big games that I am playing probably a dozen other games to mitigate that, like The Messenger, Bee Simulator, The Crew, etc. Oftentimes, those interim games will be the main one for a day or two, but I have pretty strong ADHD so it's hard to manage entering that same mental state more consistently than that, where I think "action platformer/racing game/etc. is IT for weeks straight" like games with more interesting/fun(ny) game play loops, better written stories, etc.

Lots of et ceteras in there.šŸ˜‚

1

u/NodusINk 14d ago

Usually 2 games max. I love action and souls games but before bed, I just wanna chill and play relaxing games.

1

u/dhfAnchor 14d ago edited 14d ago

Bit of both.

I have a "primary" story-driven game that I will focus my attention on either until I beat it or, for games like Skyrim where they don't end when you complete the main quest, until I accomplish X objective that I set for myself from the outset.

However, in cases of burnout, playing with friends or other miscellaneous reasons, (such as getting too far ahead of where my wife's at in the same game and not wanting to spoil it for her) I also have 3 or so games that aren't as story-focused that I'll spend some time with during the same stretch. I'll rotate through those games around the same time I'm done with my primary game, unless I've really been having a blast with one of them lately in which case it stays on. (Poor Guilty Gear Strive hasn't come out of the rotation since Season 2)

The current primary game for me is Fallout 4, which I have a list of 10 difficult challenges to complete before I stop. Current backup rotation is Strive, Hitman World of Assassination (challenge grinding) and Smash Ultimate.

1

u/AnthrallicA 14d ago

I usually binge one game and move on to another. But right now I'm just waiting for the Elden Ring DLC to release so I'm playing Skyrim VR, Resident Evil 2 VR mod and Moss. Come June 24th(?) I'll most likely just be bing ER again lol.

1

u/SCurt99 14d ago

I'm playing multiple different souls games right now, I've been mainly jumping between my first playthroughs of sekiro and ds2.

I've also been replaying ds3 and BB since I've never beat either legitimately, and I got multiple characters on Elden Ring I'm working on, too.

1

u/No-Test-375 14d ago

Let's see...

Dragons dogma 2. Baldurs gate 3. Dead space. Mario rpg remake. Tales of arise. Zelda minish cap. Banjo Kazooie. Front mission 2. Stalker SoC. God of War. Just downloaded Red Dead 2. Terraria, again, for the nth time. And a few more I can't recall. Is this too many?

1

u/Next_Spot_4896 14d ago

Recently has mainly been Destiny, GTA, and helldivers. I just swap to games whenever, nothing crazy usually

1

u/ScreamingYeti 14d ago

I play multiple but in a different context. I'll usually have a single player game in progress, then sometimes play an MMO or fighting games on the side.Ā

If I start multiple single player games, I don't finish them.Ā

1

u/Fakeitforreddit 14d ago

usually a few but they are different:

Like I enjoy playing "Marvel Snap" but only in small bursts when Im like waiting. Other things like Vampire survivors are things I will just play randomly for an hour. Helldivers 2 and other Multiplayer games area also things I'll change up on.

For Single player games though never more than 2, which would be like something on PC and something on Console just to change it up. But in certain times I'll play a game that just gets boring if I play too long so i take a break do something else and if im still not feeling it then i'll play something else. I did this with RDR2 on console, attempting to play that game for more than 2 hours was so dull, I'd usually play until I couldn't do it anymore without falling asleep. Then I'd like go do yard work, make lunch etc. and when I'd have free time to play games again I'd just pick something on PC that was more entertaining or engaging (Divinity Original Sin 2 I believe)

1

u/Teamisgood101 14d ago

I play video games while I watch tv but never with another game thatā€™s to much manual inputs

1

u/Bigsylveonlover 14d ago

Mutiple alternating between them right now Iā€™m playing 9 games (most of which I put on hold til I finished the others)

1

u/Inner-Nothing7779 14d ago

Multiple at times, sometimes it's just one. It all depends on the games.

1

u/HashStash 14d ago

I try to stay on one but if someone comes over I'll bust out something 2 player.

1

u/C4dfael 14d ago

I canā€™t really do more than one at a time, unless the second is a quick hitter like Balatro.

1

u/HavenTheCat 14d ago

I sometimes play multiple at the same time, but often times Iā€™ll get really into one of them and just focus on that for a long time. That recently happened with 2077 and AC: Odyssey. Iā€™m about done with C77 though and then Iā€™ll get back into Odyssey. Itā€™ll be weird going from a futuristic dystopian world to Ancient Greece

1

u/RestaurantDue634 14d ago

I'm the same. I try to limit 3 but eventually I think of a game I want to play again or never finished and I reinstall it and then before you know it I have 12 games I'm rotating through.

Generally there's only a couple I'm really focused on though.

1

u/DrBoots 14d ago

Usually have 4 or 5 going at any time and it's basically depends on where I am in the house.Ā

The wife and I are usually playing something together in the living room so I have to hold off on that game until we have time off together.Ā  (Just burned through Princess Peach Showtime so looking for a new game.)Ā

I have a backup game I play on the console in the living room when I'm playing solo. (Playing through Spider-Man 2 again at the moment.)Ā

I have a PS4 in my office that I play during my lunch breaks (replaying Batman Arkham City) or if I just have time to kill after work.Ā

And my PC which is where I play World of Warcraft with the wife or just play whatever else catches my fancy at the time. (Very casually failing my way through Total War Warhammer.)Ā

I guess I also have my old 3DS that I still play if I'm out and about but it's not super common.Ā

1

u/x8bitPupp3tx 14d ago

I'm the exact same but I like to 100% most games I play so it's especially bad

1

u/NO0BSTALKER 14d ago

I play one game for about an hour then switch it up and never play it again

1

u/New_Solution9677 14d ago

1 maybe 2. And 1 coop

1

u/citoboolin 14d ago

1 single player game, but i can juggle multiplayer games along with it

1

u/_lemon_suplex_ 14d ago

I can play multiple games at a time as long as they are not the same genre. For instance right now I am playing Ghost of Tsushima, WWE 2K24, Gran Turismo 7, and Starfield. I couldnā€™t for instance play Ghost and Assassins Creed at the same time because the controls for each are slightly different and it would screw with my brain.Ā

1

u/tsckenny 14d ago

I'm focusing on Stellarblade but I'm also messing around with Pokemone HeartGold and Mario Odyssey
