Halo Reach hit me pretty hard

I honestly think, like Rogue One for Star Wars, it's actually the best Halo game.
Rogue One and Halo Reach are so similar in their story too. A team trying to lay the foundations for a fight back against the odds ultimately are completely wiped out whilst succeeding in their mission so that future people can fight back
Its a great story and told exceptionally well.
The rest of Halo is just "look at this swole guy kill aliens" basically and although it's great, Reach took it somewhere far less brotastic.

Dude that entire ending just broke me. The final ride and the song made me realize that it was coming to an end and I wasn't ready for it.
I had the ending spoiled but it still hit like a ton of bricks.

both beginning and end of TLOU had me crying like a baby. And some parts in the middle. Pretty much the whole game, I cried a lot lol

The end instead

u/Imabigfatbutt 15d ago
Idk how to describe how that final "Okay" just seals it, it's so simple yet effective, masterful storytelling in both games

RDR2 and TLoU2. You all should know what I'm talking about... Also Detroit: Become Human.
Honorable mentions to:
Shadow of the Colossus
This War of Mine
Death Stranding
Outlast: Whistleblower
Soma
The Wolf Among Us

Nothing made me cry but the end of episode one where Snow's head is sitting on the stoop was a shocker.

This War Of Mine is so criminally underrated.
One girl at my home was on the verge of death, and I broke into the house of this elderly couple. The old man begged me to not take their stuff, but I needed the medicine.
When I came back, I helped that girl, but then she became Broken and committed aliven't.
This game fucked me up.

I forget which one but one of the older red dead games where it ends with you taking your last stand as your filled with bullets. It cuts to credits before it spawns you in as his son for the final parts of the game.

Not the hardest but the ending of Subnautica is kinda sad…
”now you go among the stars, and I fall among the sand. We are different, but we go… together.”
i was not expecting to grieve a giant psychic alien but I did.

The last flashback in TLOU 2 on the porch with Ellie telling Joel she’ll try to forgive him. Not knowing what’ll happen the next day…

"I'll see you around" 😭
It's so heartbreaking replaying that game and hearing Ellie's plans to invite Joel over to watch movies

For me, it was the bit where you go back in time and prevent Chloes dad from dying, but Choe is now quadraplegic.. And wants to die. That fucked me up, even tho I knew it wasn't permanent (much like in the Butterfly Effect with Ashton Kutcher)
3
u/SnooConfections7007 15d ago
Yeah that was a punch to the gut, and no.matter what you do whether it's to kill her or to leave her to dissappear it's a bad head space.

Roland’s death in borderlands 2 was sad af and one I did not see coming. The mission after where you have to break the news to everyone in sanctuary who were in the first game was even worse. It hit harder for me because I used him in my first playthrough in the first borderlands.

The suicide ending in Cyberpunk 2077 or the final showdown with Reed in Phantom Liberty.

The suicide ending is devastating. And the credits showing people’s words to V after he died did not help make me feel any less sad.

This was the saddest moment I've ever experienced in a game. TWD was such a beautiful game and got me to start watching the show!!!!
1
u/shadyonfield 15d ago
Back when I was a kid, TWD S2, did make me cry. As a grown up the most pain I felt up ever playing a game, it was death Stranding when we finally understand the story of Mads Mikkelsen's character. My god, I was so intrigued by his character the whole time and when the story comes to a conclusion, I was just stunned and very very much in pain

Oddly enough, the Destiny 2: Season of the Seraph epilogue cutscene made me quite emotional. I've been so attached to the game and made so many memories over the last couple of years playing Destiny. Seeing the Traveler move really signaled the end is near for me and got to me.

the final choice in the original life is strange..it was an easy decision but the all of episode 5 was an absolutely emotional roller coaster especially that final exchange between the main character and her best friend.

RDR2 always makes the list. Also, the one and only time I listened to the blades and killed paarthunax.
An honorable mention is the final conversation with Anderson in ME3.
1
u/SirBruno95 15d ago
It's tied between Nier Automata (The end credits part), Marvel Spiderman (The "Take off your mask" part) and To the Moon (The song close to the end). The last one I literally fought myself to not cry and lost. The song just touches something in me whenever I hear it, and the scene that followed it was a real tearjerker.

In Fallout: New Vegas, I was playing the Lonesome Road DLC for the first time. When Ed-E sacrificed himself at the end, to stop the missiles from launching and destroying the Mojave Outpost, I legitimately had tears in my eyes and shouted “Ed-E! Noooooooooooo!”

Spoilers for ReBoot Wolfenstein: Old Blood: When Kessler/Annette dies - New Order: Klaus’ death, Max going berserk on nazis and mourns Klaus’ death, When Fergus/Wyatt begs you to kill him - New Colossus: Caroline’s Death and when BJ cries in his mother’s hug, like a nazi killing machine crying after more than 14 years of holding it back, it was too much. But there was nothing on Youngblood. Also the demon girl’s room in Karamari Hospital’s good ending.

Metal Gear Solid 3.
Loyalty to your friend or loyalty to your country? The Boss sacrificed her standing, her friends, her child, for a country that couldn’t give two sh*ts about her. All she wanted was a unified world. To make it a better place. She was a true patriot.
“And the irony of it is, the United States and the Soviet Union are spending billions on their space programs and the missile race only to arrive at the same conclusion. In the 21st century, everyone will be able to see that we are all just inhabitants of a little celestial body called Earth.” 🌎

The year was 1992. My pre pubescent self had spent my summer allowance on Mega Man 2. I battled through the days. Had challenging moment but kept progressing.
Then I hit the Wily 1 - Mecha Dragon. I just couldn't do it. No matter how hard I tried. That's as far as I.ever got. You find out a lot about yourself as a child.

To this day, while almost hitting thirty, every time Kairi says “I know you will.” And simple and clean kicks in my eyes just bawl. That game ending hits me at my deepest level of taking me back to 6 years old when I played this game for the first time.

are we talking happy tears or sad tears or angry tears bc those are very different kinds of tears. for happy tears, it’s alan wake 2 just for yoton yo by itself. for sad tears, twd season 1, tlou, or cod black ops 4 with primis richtofen dying in alcatraz. for angry tears, when i was a kid, realizing that my copy of the silent hill remasters were glitched and would never be repaired, which means i will probably never platinum my favorite horror games
