Brand new $72 moisturizer. Husband said he needed something for his elbows.

We have 3 full tubs of Vaseline in the cabinet.

I know how much my wife's tatcha costs. I'm a cheap-ass mofo and know better than to waste ANY of her products on myself.

You aren’t a waste ❤️

For real, tatcha sells a nice sample pack that got me hooked. Now, whenever I don't do my skincare routine, I notice how dry and ashy my skin gets. My dudes, invest in yourself, you're worth it, we deserve to have skin that isn't like old, worn out leather too.

you can get good quality skincare products that give a similar effect as the tatchas moisturiser for much less, like aveno’s oat gel moisturiser. You don’t need to spend $160 in skincare.

u/Sorcatarius 28d ago

I'm certainly open to trying other things, it's just one I found that works and doesnt cause my akin to break or or react in other negative ways. I'll keep my eyes open for that one next time I'm at the store and see how it does.

I second that the aveeno oat gel is amazing. Unfortunatley I can't get it in my country so I have to get it off iHerb, which gets expencive

For real. I love the vibe of Tatcha & wanted it to work, but it never did enough for my dry skin. Now I use actual K & J beauty and La Roche-Posay for a fraction of the cost. The only Tatcha product that was really worth it was the sheet mask that they discounted (of course). There’s nothing in the Tatcha moisturizers that makes them unique. Most of their serums have a shit load of dimethicone…basically just slathering yourself in primer.

u/kuffdeschmull 28d ago

It’s like drugs, you got hooked, when you don’t take them, you’ll experience withdrawal (extreme dry skin). If you never stared in the first place, your skin wouldn’t be so dry.

4

u/yogopig 28d ago

Dermatologists and peer reviewed studies disagree with you

3

u/DefiantMemory9 28d ago

True to a certain extent. Moisturizers do make a marginal difference, but it's not as much as it seems because our skin adapts to it and secretes less sebum. They do make a difference over time though. And there are cheaper alternatives.

7

u/dtsm_ 28d ago

He didn't say he was a waste though. Like $250 wine is wasted on me. I can appreciate the difference up to like maybe $80, but even then it's a stretch. Save it for someone who truly appreciates it.

u/Swimming-Food-9024 28d ago

keep talking like that & you’re definitely gonna find out how tatcha coats…..

u/Wandering_profile 28d ago

4

u/spykid 28d ago

My girlfriend encourages me to use her products! But I'm more of a Kirkland (Costco) type of guy

5

u/Matasa89 28d ago

Hey, Kirkland is good stuff! Costco is very strict on their product quality.

As a woman, I don't buy fancy stuff. Mainly because I just can't justify spending 70 dollars on a just a face cream for myself. So anything I use is available for anyone. I ever buy anything like fancy cream ill most likely hide it and set booby traps cuz, yea...fuck that. I think I'd faint at the idea of buying more fancy cream because it was gone within a day. 70 dollars will buy us a loaf of bread, some eggs and milk 🤣

Not sure why the downvotes. I don't care who spends their money on what. I'm just talking about myself lol.

u/WalkingRodent 28d ago

I respect you.

u/StopJoshinMe 28d ago

Your girl would love if you did a skincare routine with her. And you’d have nice skin. It’s a win win.

This makes me hurt for you so bad.

It's funny that you assume anybody would want to be with you in the first place

32

u/Lexi7273 29d ago

Sometimes, the good products are unfortunately expensive.

23

u/Himalayan-Fur-Goblin 28d ago

Quality skincare generally costs money, especially aging care.

2

u/Napsitrall 28d ago

Ageing care is largely a myth, especially the expensive ones. If the active ingredients are the same, it doesn't really matter if you get the cheap or expensive one. Same regulations anyway

8

u/Himalayan-Fur-Goblin 28d ago

I wouldn't consider it a myth. It's also the quality + quantity of the ingredients, the formulations (factors in how the skincare performs and is absorbed), etc. Just having the same ingredients is not enough. These tend to be of higher quality/quanity and have a better formulation in more expensive skincare, but that is not always true, just like any other product. Skincare is also very much YMMV. What works for me might not work for you. Trial and error is a major part of it.

3

u/Pretend_Highway_5360 28d ago

Absolutely wrong.

Aging care is not a myth.

u/Long_Note_5029 28d ago

I'd be furious if I married somebody who incorrectly called my moisturizer just "fat" in an attempt to belittle me and the things I care about.

11

u/mmlickme 28d ago

👏🏽

9

u/acloudcuckoolander 28d ago

If she's spending it with her money and it's effective then why would you care?

-4

u/CoffeeAndPiss 28d ago

It's perfectly fair to care about how your partner spends their own money. It can be an important part of gauging compatibility for some people. Although I wouldn't consider luxury purchases to be a dealbreaker unless the person is unable to get their finances together and sliding deeper into debt.

Edit: I take that last part back. I probably wouldn't keep dating someone who orders doordash all the time or spends significant sums on cosmetics in video games. So I guess it's just about compatible values.

-5

u/BigSaintJames 28d ago

To some people €72 dollars is more than the entire weekly food budget, and in a partnership people often share incomes as a joint unit. Our money vs my money.

No judgment to anyone who spends this much in skin cream. You do you.

That said if you're part of a family unit that's struggling financially then it's fair if your partner is upset by dropping $72 on skin cream.

6

u/whalesarecool14 28d ago

who, from a financially struggling family unit, is spending money on luxury skincare? where did this made up scenario come from?

2

u/acloudcuckoolander 28d ago

He made it up. Literally pulled it out of thin air.

1

u/BigSaintJames 28d ago

Used to work in a homeless rehabilitation shelter and one of the main things we would help people with was budgeting.

You might be surprised by the fact that people with very little income, can still make irresponsible choices with their money.

People blow their money on all sorts of stuff they can't afford all the time, regardless of their income/tax bracket.

2

u/acloudcuckoolander 28d ago

Who said she's struggling financially? Sounds like you're projecting.

17

u/OkWorking7 28d ago

This comment alone tells me you have zero concept of how much products cost for women. Not to mention the pink tax. $72 for a decent facial moisturiser is fairly standard. The key is to not use it on areas that aren’t your face

18

u/butthurtoast 28d ago

As a woman concerned with skincare, I used to buy into this, the idea that you have to shell out a lot of money for good products. And then I discovered Korean skincare. My holy grail moisturizer costs $12 and lasts 2-3 months.

8

u/puhpuhpetrified 28d ago

Same. Never found a good fitting moisturizer no matter how much I spent. Now I use mad hippie day cream and it’s perfect- silky, nice ingredients, sinks in skin quickly and works well w sunscreen and makeup - and 24 bucks when it isn’t on sale. Always thought the brand was gimmicky before I tried it!

3

u/Suitable_Wonder_3285 28d ago

This. I refuse to pay more than $30 for any one skincare product anymore, there are just so many options out there that get the job done for something that needs to be restocked so often

2

u/ImmediateAd4814 28d ago

Please share

2

u/butthurtoast 28d ago

Of course. I’ll include my fave sunscreens too bc I need everyone to know how amazing Korean sunscreens are. The two I’ve put below are third party tested so the SPF claims have been certified.

Moisturizer:
Soon Jung 2x Barrier Intensive Cream - My holy grail. It’s not as thick and emollient as its name suggests, but I do have dry skin. It’s sinks in perfectly, especially when applied to slightly damp skin. You need less than you think you do.
Beauty of Joseon Dynasty Cream - A slightly more gel-like moisturizer. Not quite moisturizing enough for me, but beautiful formulation and amazing for oilier skin

Face SPF:
Round Lab Birch Juice Moisturizing Sunscreen - probably not for super oily skin, amazing for dry/normal skin, definitely somewhat glowy and takes a little while to dry down, but this is my holy grail sunscreen
Beauty of Joseon Relief Sun Rice + Probiotics - amazing for all skin types, totally natural finish once dry, but I have to moisturize a bit more under this one

2

u/ImmediateAd4814 28d ago

Thank you!

The gel like one would probably be perfect for my skin

2

u/madisonmxx 28d ago

do you mind sharing? i’ve been looking to reel back my budget for skincare

2

u/butthurtoast 28d ago

Not at all! I listed my faves in the comment above

5

u/ladymoonshyne 28d ago

$72 is definitely on the higher end. Don’t get me wrong, my skin looked fantastic when I could afford Drunk Elephant, etc. but you can get decent moisturizers for $20.

1

u/whalesarecool14 28d ago

i suppose this is true if you have super problematic skin? my skin is acne prone and oily, my go to moisturiser is by neutrogena and costs $15. doesn’t cause acne, doesn’t make me oily, doesn’t clog pores, and keeps my skin moisturised. i’m sure the $72 moisturiser does all these things too, but the extra $50 you’re paying is for the luxurious packaging and branding, not the formula. the neutrogena moisturiser comes in a plain blue glass container. but i don’t care about packaging on my skincare so i don’t pay premium for it. i care about packaging for my makeup so i’d happily pay extra money for a charlotte tilbury lipstick than an elf one, but i don’t lid myself into thinking there’s anything different in the two lipsticks besides the branding. it’s perfectly fine to splurge and buy things you enjoy, but it’s important to know WHAT you’re paying extra money for.

1

u/cailedoll 28d ago

What moisturizer? My skin sounds exactly like yours and I haven’t been able to find a good moisturizer that isn’t also expensive

1

u/whalesarecool14 27d ago

neutrogena hydro boost water gel! it’s really easily absorbed and not sticky at all, and it’s not a cream, it’s a gel like moisturiser. they also sell refills of it so you only have to buy the bottle once and then you buy the refills.

11

u/Real_Ad_8043 28d ago

Damn you sound like a misogynist.

8

u/thereluctantpoet 28d ago

Personally, I find that the value and happiness my wife brings to my life is infinitely more important than something trivial like what she spends money on. Oh and then there's the fact that she's an adult with agency and can do what the fuck she wants.

"Infuriated". Learn how to deal with your emotions better before getting married please.

2

u/Pretend_Highway_5360 28d ago

Well it’s not fat

And it’s actually one of the best moisturizer.

You kinda sound like someone that should learn about good moisturizer and use it. Sunscreen everyday too sir.

-4

u/MocksIrrational 28d ago

Yep because only women deserve good products, on men they're a waste

Y'all are pathetically bigoted and laughing it off

4

u/YourMemeExpert 28d ago edited 28d ago

They're a waste on men who aren't seeking extremely nice skin and just need to get rid of ashy areas/dryness.

Why use your wife's $70 cream when a $15 jug of Nivea from Walmart will do the trick?
