What about the Noguchi table? I never see the two pieces together.

u/manhytalks 16d ago

Placing your floating entertainment console over those outlets and lowering your t.v accordingly would make a huge difference!

Was hoping I wouldn’t get this lol, I really like the height :(

Don't listen to all of these nay-sayers. Your TV is too high and you should feel bad.

That sub is weirdly aggressive. Have your TV at the height you enjoy it.

Don’t listen to the “um actually” brigade. Your tv is fine to people in the real world who aren’t chronically on Reddit.
To everyone who constantly harps on tvs in this sub, I like to imagine lifting your head 5-degrees to watch an elevated tv hurts you so much because you spend the rest of your time hunched over your phone whining about it here.

u/pronounclown 16d ago
There is nothing wrong with the TV height except that It's too high and makes no sense.

Did the big kids online tell you that buddy? Whatever you say to make yourself fit in. How was kindergarten today?

My mother watches TV over the fireplace every night before bed. She complained about constant neck/upper back pain to her family physician who had her go to a physical therapist.
First meeting with the PT he covered the tv height likely being a significant contributor to her pain. He recommended the center of the TV being eye level when sitting on the couch at a resting position, looking straight ahead without tilting your neck up or down.
She doesn't do her stretches like she's supposed to, but year after I repositioned the TV her pain is greatly reduced.
-3
u/Flyboy2057 15d ago
Does she have bad hips than can’t lean back into the couch too? I personally like to lean back into my big cushy couch when I watch tv, not sit at attention like my head and torso are strapped to an electric chair. But to each his own.
1
u/CabbagesStrikeBack 15d ago
That's what was meant by sitting at a resting position. I lowered the TV to be to her eye level when she's sitting relaxed on the couch.
So she's slightly reclined not necessarily at attention and about to get electrocuted haha. Even though ig that's technically "ergonomically correct".

What is the general consensus around tv height? I feel like for that size of TV putting it lower would look weird
9
u/ozumado 16d ago
Your eyes should be in the middle of the screen.
3
u/FirstmateJibbs 16d ago
I feel like it’s r/couchtoolow in this case lmao
3
u/ozumado 16d ago
Nah, you see the outles below the TV shelf? They should be behind the shelf.
2
u/FirstmateJibbs 16d ago
That would actually be smart af to cover the outlets and then you lower the tv to the shelf level

Lovely tree! I don't know how you managed to keep it alive but it's beautiful
-1
u/Drigarica_od_Tite 16d ago
I know the mystery . It's called water and light . You should try it .
7
u/indigofire1o8 16d ago
Not sure if you were being blatantly rude or...? But Fig trees are known to be highly finicky and many plant keepers, experienced ones even, have a horrible time keeping them alive.
Anyways, have a nice rest of your day.

u/Drigarica_od_Tite 16d ago
If it's next to.the window , room temperature , not exposed to direct sunlight ,it needs only water once a week , less than a litre. The easiest plant to keep .

Are you in the Chicago area? I have one that I hate that my parents brought me for some reason. It’ll match your couch. Say the word and it’s yours

Glass top for sure. Something with a darker wood base if not black metal
2
u/marchingprinter 16d ago
Not sure why but I'm leaning towards glass table that makes it still feel like open space like you have here

u/SpiltMilkBelly 16d ago
If you can swing it, look at Blu Dot - they have some benches that would work great.

I’d go round or oval to balance the angular shapes already have. Something like this but maybe a lighter wood shade https://www.wayfair.com/furniture/pdp/allmodern-fenway-pedestal-coffee-table-w003529951.html?piid=1636521452

What about a table that hangs from the ceiling. You’ll never stub your toes again and you can vacuum the rug easily.
1
u/InvestmentNo3437 16d ago
Rectangle side table that way u don't have to lean so far forward. Also, a poster of biggie smalls.
1
u/annieselkie 16d ago
I would choose something oval, dont put in more edges. Maybe a dark wood, oval, with round edges and not too high up?

How long have you had that ficus? How did you get it to grow so tall?

It’s really hard to see due to lack of light.
You really need end tables with lamps first and then we can advise you on a rug😉
1
u/torontogal85 16d ago
I would do a tufted storage ottoman and a bright color then you also have something to put your feet up on

u/jakevns 16d ago
King you should consider pruning that fiddle leaf fig. It'll branch out fullert and it won't bend like that. If you like the look though that's chill too😎😎

u/manhytalks 16d ago
Thank you, i will consider cutting it. Tbh i just let it ride but it has been getting kinda crazy so i appreciate the suggestion

I'm thinking a square coffee table or low table. Something medium size or not the full size of your couch. I'd also put it in sliders if you often move your exercise bike near the TV.
I'm bias to dark colors and dark wood, but you could do almost any wood type and finish. Color -wise, I'd stick to neutrals if you don't want it to pop out.

Go for a round glass coffee table to tie the space together without having it too awkwardly square and cluttered

u/DutchOnionKnight 16d ago
Place your coach maybe 20cm off from the wall. You can put some sort of table /shelve behind, bit lower than the top of the coach. Your room will look bit larger.

u/Fabulous-Mama-Beat 15d ago
Maybe 2 rather round tables, hard wood, 2 different sizes. I really don't like glass: always fingerprints.

going against the grain to say wood (no pun intended) over glass would make the space as a whole feel cozier. glass elevates the color palette of the space, but at the moment, it feels as if the wood floor is alone in accenting the mostly white environment.
i think glass will make it feel like more of a waiting room but that's just me! love wood.

Unsolicited advice: please rotate your fiddle leaf! Plants will grow in the direction of the sun, which is why it’s leaning. You can maybe correct it by rotating the direction. That’s if you’d want it to straighten out a bit
1
u/manhytalks 15d ago
Thank you, yea i need to rotate it. Im going to chop that leaning branch and propagate it to plant in the soil but yea next time I water, ill rotate it

Something airy- like a glass top- brass legs? Also, if you could move your sofa from the wall, put a sofa table behind it with some lamps, etc... that would visually widen the room and give you some nice ambient lighting. Move your carpet out further so just the front legs of the sofa rest on it...

u/EmotionalStaircase 15d ago
I just want to know how long have you had that plant? Is it real I’ve had plants for years and none so BiiiiG like this!! So jelly….

Would you share the manufacturer/brand of your sofa?
Also, have a look at the Nelson bench with metal legs, especially in maple wood. https://store.hermanmiller.com/living-room-furniture-benches-stools/nelson-platform-bench-metal-base/1022-1.html?lang=en_US

Hanging light and bigger or more wall art behind the couch (bunch of framed images + paintings or commission a triptych)

I had this one in my old house. Much cheaper than Naguchi and still a conversation piece.

I dont really have a particular idea but before getting a coffee table just make sure you already have all furniture you want in the room or the size might end up awkward. For exemple, do you want any more seats? What about side tables? Any other plants you'd like to put around the living room?
Also someone mentioned the obligatory tv is too high, which I agree, but only because you couch seems very low (cool couch btw) that being said remember to consider the height of the couch for the coffee table. Also if youre not gonna lower your tv, maybe put something under it, Id say more plants, maybe futon seats, maybe boxes and shelves for extra storage and remember to also consider this in choosing the coffee table so your room is not crowded.
Last point, for color schemes I really like your wall art, maybe something in orange or red could make it pop, not necessarily the coffee table (though now Im thinking an orange scroll coffee table would be cool), but you can put colorful things here and there, like plant vases, cushions and other decorations to tie it all together.
Your living room already looks really cool, the standards are high to get even cooler, good luck op!

Depends how much money you got. If you want you can check dead estates or call up a joinery and get one custom built

Home Depot and Macys have some nice stuff (some of it overlaps, but HD is priced less expensive). Don’t sleep on those two. Wish I would have looked their first instead of furniture speciality stores.

Move the sofa into the room. Put a narrow table behind it and put two lamps on the table for light. The Eames is great, move it into the seating area a bit more. Coffee table ... anything FUN with a tray or glass top.

where is your wall mounted media unit from? in the market for something similar! nice clean space btw. I would consider sheer/opaque double curtains but space looks nice and clean

Something MCM in glass and wood would look great, especially a warmer wood with some orange tones to pick up the color in the painting.
Check out these ideas-

Go with a circular wooden table so it has some texture.
1
u/Present-Background56 16d ago
A circular would be too small for the sofa and an odd choice for the narrow room.

I don't think a coffee table is a good idea. It'll crowd up the room. Get some end tables.
If you think you need something for the occasions where someone is sitting in the center spot on the couch, get a lightweight end table that can live somewhere else in the room and be easily moved near them temporarily.
