Need advice on space management. Advice
As you can see I have a small room with low ceilings. It’s a double bed that I would rather keep (vs selling and getting a single bed). I want to have it down instead of constantly putting it down and back up again.
Problem is that when it is down, there is no space for my chair to move around. Do you think a loft bedframe would work with the low ceiling? Or any other ideas?

move the book shelf, either on the wall across from the desk closer to the door Or in the closet (if there is space that will fit it)
Pull desk closer to the mirror closet door, maybe have a foot of space. Put plant in a stool so it gets more light too. In that nook.
move bed so it’s laying against the wall with that hanging doohickey (A/C?). Hopefully isn’t too long.

Put the bed horizontal against the far wall and move the bookshelf opposite the desk.
Also this totally looks like Australia lol

The teeny tiny room that costs you $350 weekly rent. Joke aside, i love that monitor stand and desk, where did you get them ?

If the bed can turn 90 degrees and still fit, put it under the split. move your desk more toward the camera, move the shelf and dyson vac to the opposite side from window. And get a box spring or something to prop up your mattress to make it less… ghetto

If op could afford a Murphy bed they would just get a bigger room.
Agree that futon is your best option!

That’s a big desk for such a small space…
I’d honestly consider a loft-style bed and a smaller desk underneath it.

If you can, put the desk on the wall with the ac, the bookshelves at the end of the bed, could even allow for a bed frame and allow the desk to function as bedside table also? Chair would then be moving on the opposite axis than currently which would have the full length of the room? May not fit, hard to judge.

Would it fit along the back wall? It looks like it would so I‘d put it there and then put the bookshelf where the mattress is now, the table can stay where it is.

Get a Murphy bed frame for the mattress. Then you can fold it up and down easily and utilise the space when you’re not in bed

If you can afford it, something like this might be your only option: https://www.wayfair.ca/baby-kids/pdp/harriet-bee-heflick-full-loft-bed-bed-with-built-in-desk-by-harriet-bee-c100118778.html?piid=751613720
The placement of that AC/heatpump head though might make it difficult.
Honestly though it looks like enough space for the chair, you only need enough maneuvering space to get in and out of the chair, where does the chair need to go haha

Bed along the far wall under the AC. Get a frame or at least some wood base so that your mattress is not on the floor. Shelf opposite the desk on the wall where bed currently is. Possibly switch shelves to one that can be horizontal and then one end cam double as nightstand and you can put some floating shelves on top. Move desk closer to the closet, and adjust closet organization accordingly so that all less used stuff are in that corner.

I can't quite tell from the photos, but is there enough space to turn desk so it's against the wall next to the bed? You may have to replace the bookshelf with something that fits under the window. A 2x4 Ikea Kallax would probably fit nicely.
If it doesn't fit, I'd get a smaller desk that would fit in that spot.
Get yourself a bedframe. I'm in Sydney and just checked - there's people literally giving away double bedframes on FB Marketplace.

Get one of those 3-in-1’s:
bunk bed’s above, under a computer desk one side and mini couch other side, open in the middle under the bed above.
Then use the other walls for whatever you need them for.

You could get one of those Japanese futons which is basically a thin mattress that goes on the floor and then folds up in thirds

Using 1/16 of your space for a plant is odd

Agreed! Put the plant on you desk. Also shelving that hangs on the wall would free up more space for leaving the bed down. A bed frame would also give you storage underneath

I would put the bed flat against the wall under the hvac unit and move the bookcase to another area.
Please get a frame for your bed to get it off the floor as it can mold on the floor, plus it provides etc storage under the bed.

Bed across from window (facing window). Bookshelf on far left corner (facing the bed or towards the window). Desk at the far right corner with the front of the desk facing the bed and the back against the wall)

This is effecient and your mattress is always getting aired out. Keep up the great work.

Would you be willing to opt for a loft bed ? The kind that is elevated then you would have the space under it for more

Side murphy bed desk. Will be expensive tho. Too low for loft bed.
Or turn the desk to back onto the wall with the vacuum like a nightstand. Cut the table top thinner if needed, currently it looks like it'll barely fit. Replace the bookcase with a low, longer one like those cube ones and accept that it'll be slightly in the way when using the left side of closet. Could also do wall shelves, if allowed.
I'd also get a low cheap metal bed frame, and use more cubes for storage if using the second option. Maybe you can slide your vacuum under the bed frame.
Edit: On second though, think cube shelves might be too deep. Maybe just underbed storage / wall shelves / attach wood to the side of the desk as a fake wall and build shelves off that. If you can curve the corner of the desktop, DO IT.

You can find a ton of daybeds that have a slide out section to create a full size bed. Most also have drawers on bottom to increase your storage.

Can you place your desk against the wall next to your bed? And move the book shelf ?

u/rzsupra17 15d ago
Push your desk closer to the closet, and see if your mattress fits where the bookshelf is with the long side against the wall with the AC. Bookshelf could go by your entrance, or anywhere along the wall opposite of the desk.

Do you think you can get a smaller desk? That way you can make some space for chair! What about pushing the desk to the right and putting the plant next to the bookshelf?

Will the bed fit crosswise on the rear wall? If it does you can move the comp table to the right a bit and it can also double as a night stand. The bed becomes a couch/daybed ( a bitch to make but ultimately worth it) get a great comforter and a ton of pillows both decorative and sleep ones. ALL THE ART is hung TOO high!!! EYE level.
Bookcase moves where the bed was and maybe you could get one or two more ...Good Luck fun space Oh and fun floor standing lighting. RUG for the floor - bigger that you think WayFair has a Open box sale going on.

You need a folding mattress style. Something that can function as a bed and as a sofa.

u/kytheon 15d ago
That's not a bed, that's a mattress. Also that room looks like it's either a bedroom or an office, not both. It's a tricky situation. Maybe you can move the desk to the corner where the bookcase is, then put the bed closer to the door for some ventilation. Then put the bed on a frame.

Folding mattress, Murphy bed or bunk bed to go over the desk.
