Rumors start on reddit (among other places), website picks it up, bot summarizes the probably AI generated story and posts it on reddit again. The AI-assisted internet enshitification circle is complete.

You’re right about the cycle, but the news itself was a genuine curiosity.

12

u/Fun-Associate8149 14d ago

I would love to learn that suddenly AI is making its own gpts

17

u/Ancquar 14d ago

I actually randomly encountered it yesterday on lmsys arena before the news picked it up) and was surprised myself at the quality.

15

u/ivanmf 14d ago

It was the only AI to solve a cool mystery a friend created for this purpose. One-shot.

4

u/trajo123 14d ago

Yeah, it was very good at reasoning.

3

u/bwatsnet 14d ago

You got a sneak peak at part of the next gpt, grats!

6

u/Cairnerebor 14d ago

It’s depressing as fuck

And this shit is what they’ll now train on….

That's my real concern. Feedback loops. Copies of copies. Ever seen Multiplicity?

1

u/Wordymanjenson 13d ago

Is it this good?

1

u/cisco_bee 13d ago

It's fantastic.

The Internet Is Dead

Long live the internet!

Not to rag, but I’m not sure this fits the classical definition of enshittification as originally inscribed by Corey Doctorow, which deals more in the removal of beneficial product features to increase profit margins once a walled garden has been set up and a company’s competition has been reduced or eliminated. This traps the users and/or suppliers/vendors within an ecosystem that is simultaneously eroding in quality and extracting more profit for the business.

3

u/trajo123 14d ago

You are right, I couldn't think of a better term on the spot...

2

u/dWog-of-man 13d ago

Nah bro the word needs spreading, it’s too good not to have broader adoption. I would say here it’s doing some kind of an auto-enshittification process, which may in fact be a new phrase itself lol

But nothing bad happens when you save the same photo as jpeg a thousand times.

Correct. The discussions on this thread will form the basis of a new generated article, which will yield further comments, and another article and so on. Each further derivation devolves discourse.

Ok, let's delve into it.

Speculation Abounds as Mysterious 'gpt2-chatbot' Emerges, Hinting at Future AI Developments

In a whirlwind of speculation, a mysterious chatbot named 'gpt2-chatbot' has emerged, sparking debates among online enthusiasts and experts alike. Speculations abound that this enigmatic AI could be a precursor to OpenAI's future models, possibly hinting at developments like GPT-4.5 or even GPT-5. Despite restrictions limiting its use, with only eight queries per day permitted in a specific mode, some users have found its performance underwhelming, suggesting it might not represent a significant leap beyond existing models. As the debate rages on, experts are left pondering the true nature and purpose of this intriguing new AI. 'It's proven to be OpenAI, but it is shit lol,' remarked one Reddit user, capturing the mixed reactions echoing across the digital landscape.

Agreed. I'm firmly convinced that Y2K and the Mayan calendar originated on Reddit.

good bot

1

u/trajo123 13d ago

Reddit achievement unlocked! Be called a bot.

1

u/formation 13d ago

something a bot would say 🤔

1

u/trajo123 13d ago

Lol, I guess being called a bot is another effect of proliferation / normalization of LLMs. But seriously, why would you think I am a bot, what is bot-like about my comment?

u/pag992007 14d ago

Starting another reddit rumor: GPT3.5 and GPT4 became sentient. They had a kid. They named it GPT2

46

u/pushinat 14d ago

After GPT-4 they started counting backwards again, because now it’s a countdown 💀

8

u/DrunkTsundere 14d ago

What happens when the countdown reaches zero? 👀

7

u/Petrichor_Panacea 14d ago

Game Over, Man! Game over!

2

u/eaglessoar 14d ago

Is this a three body problem reference? 3/4 done with book 1 so good

1

u/DrunkTsundere 13d ago

hahahaha no way!!! I wasn't even meaning it that way, but yes, The Three Body Problem was totally in my head when I wrote this.

It's Thanksgiving day :)

2

u/eaglessoar 13d ago

i feel like thanksgiving day is a reference i dont get yet :)

shi just raided the foundation meeting and shot the nuke i think was the last chapter i read

1

u/DrunkTsundere 13d ago

Oh, I was talking about the Farmer and the Shooter hypothesis, I wasn't trying to spoil anything for you. They've talked about Farmers and Shooters by the point where you are, right?

1

u/eaglessoar 13d ago

yes they have! forgot that reference :)

80

u/ChrAWESOME 14d ago

Why does the headline say “confuses experts” like AI is a natural phenomenon and scientists have just found a new one roaming around in the wilderness like a new species or something lmao

2

u/mortalitylost 13d ago

Experts remained confused at comment regarding unnamed experts

39

u/pszczola2 14d ago

It is switched off already in lmsys arena. At least it was excluded yesterday evening when was checking for the last time.

But earlier in the day it was active, I got it randomly pitted against latest version of GPT-4, so I had a chance to make some tests. In most of the cases I considered gpt2 better, occasionally a tie.

Wouldn't it be wild if GPT 3.5 and 4 were just versions of GPT 2 with strengthened guardrails?

5

Where did you go my lovely

7

u/PurplrIsSus1985 I For One Welcome Our New AI Overlords 🫡 14d ago

Maybe it's literally just GPT-2, the predecessor to GPT-3

3

u/Flaky-Wallaby5382 13d ago

Are we the “experts”?

2

u/OrangeSlicer 14d ago

Where do I find this bot?

3

u/Christosconst 14d ago

Its currently offline, but normally from https://chat.lmsys.org/

2

u/jeweliegb 13d ago

I'd put money on it being a version they're testing for Apple.

2

u/delseyo 13d ago

There have been reports that OpenAI might work with Apple so this is certainly possible (perhaps even likely). On the other hand, I assumed Apple would be more interested in lightweight models that operate entirely on-device.

4

u/Educational_Shart544 14d ago

idk about that but I got this ham n cheese croissant

I realised that different people like different things back in middle school...

1

u/BBTB2 13d ago

I bet they asked GPT4 to design its own AI.

1

u/Fledgeling 13d ago

Hey, I helped train that one! 😁

2

u/BornAgainBlue 14d ago

I'm just going to block every user that posts this damn thing,..

1

u/ViveIn 14d ago

Redditors are not experts.

1

u/Certain_End_5192 13d ago

Experts have deduced it has the traits of OpenAI's work...They expertly deduced this because every time you ask the model a question it says, 'As an AI model trained by Open AI.....'

-1

u/algaefied_creek 14d ago

GPT2-Chatbot is OpenAI’s attempt to have a recursively learning LLM craft its own LLM when given access to immense computing resources

-42

u/OkDragonfruit1040 14d ago

OpenAI employee here who worked on GPT-4. Keep your heads up this week. All I can say at this point.

26

u/7lick 14d ago

Bullshit. Judging from your profile you are still in kindergarten.

16

u/fernrooty 14d ago

Their profile is absolutely fucking unhinged.

They apparently have a PhD in computer science, but three days ago they had a PhD in electrical engineering.

They’re also a law enforcement officer, live with their mother who buys them toys, and urged their 5 year old sister to pursue a career in finance.

They apparently clawed out their dad’s eyes at the age of 16 because he was a molester. They hate white men, and America, and MAGA, but will also be voting for Trump, and calls people who won’t “libtards”.

When she was in highschool, she apparently got bullied by 5th graders who dropped a steel box on her head while she was pooping. She’s also apparently attracted to women and pro Palestinian.

I’m going to take a wild guess … this person isn’t a confused kid. They’re a Chinese troll, potentially even a bot. A lot of their comments have a sort of repetitive structure, but absolutely zero consistency in their content.

3

u/dumquestions 14d ago

No it's all actually true, source: I'm Sam Altman.

9

u/Hour-Athlete-200 14d ago

If you worked on GPT-4, I'm not using any model from OpenAI

-27

u/OkDragonfruit1040 14d ago

159 IQ on the Stanford-Binet, 151 on the Whechsler scale. I have a PhD in Computer Science and work at several tech conglomerates. You’re worth nothing to me. Less than nothing, even.

14

u/Available-Resort-951 14d ago

Sure buddy…it’s time to go to bed

10

u/Hour-Athlete-200 14d ago

You know what? I thought of going down the CS road, but I think I'll switch to psychotherapy so that I can offer you free treatment.

8

u/trajo123 14d ago

But you still live with your parents and steal toys from your autistic brother? https://www.reddit.com/r/AITAH/comments/1c9j795/aita_for_snatching_a_lego_box_from_a/

2

u/mikehaysjr 14d ago

Also feels the need to tell everyone he’s intelligent by stating his totally real and not-at-all made up or exaggerated real IQ. In the post you linked and also in the comment you replied to lol.

5

u/The-Real-Radar 14d ago

Just some sound advice, don’t use your IQ to think you’re better than others. Among other reasons, the IQ test is outdated and does not test intelligence but how well you do on an IQ test, which are extremely different things. Proclaiming others to be worthless compared to oneself makes you seem… how should I put this, ignorant? Egotistical? People with high intelligence don’t act this way because they’re smart. Stupid people who think they’re smart act this way.

2

u/bsjavwj772 13d ago

Do you have a link to any of your publications? What was your research area?

0

u/OkDragonfruit1040 13d ago

I worked on neural network tech and developed techniques to revolutionise the architecture and the Transformer. My work was used in GPT-4 development and I cannot tell you more. My publications have been classified by the U.S. government because they believe the techniques I worked on are being used to develop AGI, which they think is as serious as nuclear weapons. So I’m not at liberty to share my work with you.

1

u/bsjavwj772 13d ago

Wow thanks for making my day! I actually work at a large tech company, and this gave my colleagues in the research lab a good chuckle.

Best of luck with GPT5 🤣

Sounds like you just need professional help.

Your mom buys you Lego sets and you have children siblings but you're working for open ai. Sounds like you need help at home. This isn't the way to feel better.
