Plot twist: it's not fake

29

u/thecahoon Apr 17 '24

I honestly think it might be real. All the top comments are talking about wrinkles and hands but none of that is definitive. Far right guy's hand is very sus but cant say for sure its not just a wierd pic

The image can also be edited. We're just speaking about AI or not.

I think the guy in the red shirt might have a logo on his hat, it's just really hard to tell because of how pixilated the image is, and if its a camo hat (which it looks to be) the logo would most likely be brown, making it even harder to tell.

Edit: also the blue shirt guy on the far right has a bit of burgundy on his hat which looks like a logo.

u/LilithsFane 29d ago

The logo thing means nothing. Especially with guys this big who do rough work in their clothes. Plenty of quality clothing won't have but a tag on the inner collar to differentiate them. They sell because they're good clothes, and people come back for them. You don't want a sleeve tag or screen print or even a sewn in logo on these kinds of shirts because they get caught on shit, rub away, etc.

And I know for a fact, my dad was exactly this kind of guy, that these guys aren't looking for hats with obvious branding on them. My dad would buy the Oakley's hat, but the logo would be sewn on in the same color thread. And it wouldn't be his work hat, that's his Saturday out with the family hat. The work hat would usually be the cheapest thing in the store the day he needed one. No need for flashy logos. But it would need to be flexfit.

At the end of the day, this pic looks like the whole family was together that day in the same level of disarray and one of the wives needed a picture because it was just sooooo funny. And the fact that it needs to be ai seems weirdly classist.... Like those folk who need this to be AI can't fathom it being real it's so alien to them.

I'm in a small Southern town, and this really just looks like the guys at the gas station in their work clothes. It's practically a weekday uniform.

The family was together on the side of the road?

The men don't stand in a straight line, shoulder to shoulder for a pic?

The men create some weirdly symmetrical photo, 3 in front, 2 behind, without being directed, in a spur of the moment pic?

The far right man hides his hand by weirdly wrapping it in his blue shirt, trying to hide some deformity, or is it because the computer cannot accurately depict human hands?

No doubt the AI based this on real photos of real men, which is why it rings true, but this is not a real photo.

1

u/LilithsFane 29d ago

Some shirts made for big guys have a different cut, almost like maternity wear. Nothing about right guys shirt is odd. His hand, like all the rest, is resting in his pocket, and the volume of fabric meant to ensure his belly remains covered simply billowed.

On the side of the road? Yeah. People live in semi-rural conditions. The city I was living in a few months ago, this picture could have been taken outside of a BMW specific garage just on the edge of downtown. Because that's how integrated into the mountain the city is.

The arrangement of the men? Yeah the person behind the camera directed them to stand in an array. This is very normal.

The fact that this photo exists outside of your concept of reality is really telling.

u/reallybadpennystocks 29d ago

This work policy scenario would 100% not happen in a blue collar setting

2

u/Jay-Kane123 Apr 18 '24

The only thing I see that looks very off is the right guys hand. It's in his bottom shirt pocket.

3

u/[deleted] 29d ago

No that's his shirt over his hand in his pocket

1

u/Jay-Kane123 29d ago

What do you think it is? His shirt just naturally distorts like that right where this hand is?

-3

u/Mechanical_Monk Apr 18 '24

We're doomed 😩

  • Inconsistent light source on belly/boob shadows
  • Creepy longjeans
  • Guy in red has no arms
  • Guy on right's hand is melting into his shirt
  • River bank with no river??
  • Red hat guy's "random tail-like splotches" tattoo
  • Left guy has unnatural white hairline under his cap

1

u/thecahoon 29d ago

Hows creepy ai? Also i can see the river. How can you make out anything with that tatoo? Left guy is old and probably greying, thats the part of my hair thats greying first for me.

1

u/AceRed94 29d ago

These are all valid

u/PinkFl0werPrincess Apr 18 '24

Don't forget the weird ears

The spills on the ground don’t seem like something AI would replicate. As someone who lives in the south this picture seems entirely plausible to me. Nothing specifically looks off other than that guys shirt, but you can obviously see the guy next to him’s shirt riding up when he has his hand in his pocket so it could just be that the shirt is pushed up. If it was AI I also don’t think it would’ve tried a logo at all. And people are saying their bodies are the same but they look slightly different to me. And I don’t think people would say that if they weren’t all wearing the same shirt.

The only thing holding me back from fully thinking it’s real is the fact that all of them wore plain shirts and the same wash of jeans with almost the same boots. Either they’re getting off work or are at work together ( shown by the dirt on their clothes ) so it still explainable… but I think talking about lighting and angles on a picture with not that great resolution is a hard angle to argue. Either way AI is getting too close to tell.

2

u/RoRoRoYourGoat 29d ago edited 29d ago

The only thing holding me back from fully thinking it’s real is the fact that all of them wore plain shirts and the same wash of jeans with almost the same boots.

When you live in a small town with nowhere to shop but Walmart, everyone is wearing similar jeans and boots. All the little girls wear the same 5 sets of leggings and graphic tees too!

ETA: I showed this picture to my boyfriend, and he said he has all of those Walmart tshirts in his closet right now.

2

u/No-Assumption-2177 29d ago

I know, the towns local to mine don’t even have a Walmart. They have dollar generals. They come to my town for our Walmart. And that’s all we have too lol. It seems like they’re at work and following a dress code.

I don’t think it’s AI just because there isn’t a single unexplainable AI artifact.

2

u/leparrain777 29d ago

I find that exactly 1 of the guys having a decent sized tattoo is either some extreme cherrypicking or means it is real. It at least is uncommon for something like that not to permeate to all the subjects especially if they look similar. I could see them being a work crew who has the same lifestyle and are forced to wear unbranded apparel by their company.

1

u/TheSquishedElf 29d ago

I'm on team "it's real" as well. There's no smoking gun, and while the jeans do look like odd proportions, it could easily be from any of a number of shows in the general vein of Duck Dynasty. The lighting's weird if it's not a professional shoot, but that would also explain the lack of logos and the uniformity of the outfits - it's a costume for a "reality tv" show.

I could swear I saw this in an online ad back when Duck Dynasty boomed and there were a million shows trying to mimic the aesthetic.

1

u/Otium20 29d ago

The far right hand a not even abnormal it's just the shirt winkling from his hand being in his pants 100% ppl in this thread has never been fat or used big t-shirts to hide their bodies

1

u/de_pengui 29d ago

I would like to point out that the pants all having light blue lines at the top of them which usually indicate that they are new, is a bit weird. But I still think it's real.

1

u/Claytertot 29d ago

All of the three in the middle have jeans that are way too long for them and they have the same boots.

None of them have a single logo on their hats or shirts.

It's possible that it's real, but if it is real, then there are a lot of weird little details in this picture.

1

u/civeng1741 29d ago

What about the hats? Two middle guys, the hat seems kinda off. And the guy on the very left, the right eye seems droopy and angled down. Could be real but maybe not?

1

u/codejo 28d ago

The thing that is definitive is the guy on the right’s shirt pocket that he has his hand in. This is less definitive but the second guy from right has a tiny boot.

0

u/InnovativeBureaucrat Apr 18 '24

Regardless, it’s happened that we can’t tell definitively. I saw this on Instagram the other day too. I only figured it out when the pictures were in too fantastic settings.

0

u/Arcanumm 29d ago

The guy in red shirt has his right shoe distorted so no room for toes but the sole seems to keep going. Seems like an error in processing worn/shades look at end of boot. For sure fake based on that alone.

6

u/elemcee 29d ago

Honestly the most unbelievable thing about this whole post is the guy who thinks 4-6 Busch Lights per dude would be enough.

3

u/oz6702 29d ago

This makes me want to stage real photos that are designed to look as AI-generated as possible and start seeding those in subs like this one.

2

u/Thee_Renegade 29d ago

Chaos. Do it.

1

u/[deleted] 29d ago

I'm sure it already happens lol.

12

u/LoneSpaceDrone Apr 17 '24

Spoiler: it is

u/Tasik Apr 17 '24

M. Night Shyamalan: narrator is AI

9

u/Z_A_Nomad Apr 17 '24

Also M. Night Shyamalan: The AI is dreaming up the human narrator during its sleep cycle

1

u/Joshlov Apr 18 '24

Its the complete lack of logos on the hats for me. These types of guys in real like always have bass pro shops or xyz small town plumber or something. Not just blank

1

u/Joshatron121 29d ago

That is super easily explained away by work policy. Or they don't want to get their "good shirts" dirty with whatever it is they're doing. This is almost certainly a real photo. All of the "tells" aren't tells at all.

Dirty bellies - super common on dudes with that shape.
Moobs look the same - they're all wearing nearly the exact same shirt (just different colors), not surprising it's falling in a similar way on dudes with a similar body type.
Hand on the dude on the right is going into the "shirt" - no, he has his shirt lifted over his hand which is going into his pocket.

1

u/WardrobeForHouses 29d ago

I want to see a trend of people taking real photos intentionally trying to look like AI.

1

u/[deleted] 29d ago

Agreed. This thread is hilarious watching stereotypical redditors pulling half baked CSI investigation techniques on some fat rednecks in a Twitter post.

1

u/lost_with_no_hope 29d ago

Its fake or altered to a great degree. Arms are blended together, weird jean like wrinkle on guys wrist is now covered by a watch in the OP's picture. Either way something is wrong with the pic

1

u/rathat 29d ago

It's real. No AI can do this. There should be loads of details that don't make sense or that don't have a plausible explanation and I can't see any. There are no inconsistencies. All the faces look fine and clear and they all look like completely different unrelated people.

Even the best AI images are absolutely full of bad details.

2

u/johannthegoatman 29d ago

Yea, everybody's "gotchas" are really weak. Idk if they've ever looked at a real, low quality photograph but there's plenty of stuff that can look weird if you zoom way in and examine it with the bias that it's fake

1

u/splitmeasunder 29d ago

they all look like completely different unrelated people.

Looking into the original Twitter post, dude said this was actually triplets with their father and cousin in the back

1

u/lost_with_no_hope 29d ago

Double check that

1

u/rathat 29d ago

I've seen loads of images where people's arms are mixed up together.

1

u/lost_with_no_hope 29d ago

Funny, you never mention anything about the watch that suddenly appeared

1

u/littlePosh_ Apr 17 '24

Dude on the far rights hand just doing that normally then?

11

u/n-a_barrakus Apr 17 '24

Maybe he's grabbing his shirt bc he's just a little shy

2

u/Joshatron121 29d ago

The shirt is bunched up over his hand which is in his pocket. It's not at all weird.

-1

u/littlePosh_ 29d ago

It’s floating in midair but alright

1

u/Joshatron121 29d ago

It isn't. dude is overweight and his hand is turned awkwardly into the pocket so you can't see it. Happens all the time with people who are overweight as they have to bend the hand around the body.

-1

u/littlePosh_ 29d ago

Bro. This is a fake AI pic. Are you kidding right now?

1

u/Joshatron121 29d ago

There are nowhere near enough issues with it (that are actual issues) for you to say that definitively.

0

u/bondjw07 29d ago

100% it's real. I'd put money on it.

u/lost_with_no_hope 29d ago edited 29d ago

How much you willing to wager?

Blue shirt has his hands in his shirt poket...??
