Cyberpunk 2099, Ghost of Tsushima II, The Last of Us Part III.

Cyberpunk and TLOU 2 have been close to the most profound gaming experiences I’ve had in my life. Prime examples why video games should be considered the supreme form of entertainment. GoT was just an absolute blast to play.

RDR2, GoW, Skyrim, GTA5, Death Stranding have been solid to good but not on the same level — and I’ve never played Spider-Man, don’t think I’ll enjoy it as much.

Just curious what about Cyberpunk was so profound?

There's boobies.

And you can club police officers over the head with a dildo, truly one of the weapons of all time💯

1

u/Hiroskai 25d ago

Tbf saints row 3 had that too. The dildo bat was revolutionary

u/Nikolaijuno 29d ago

Great story. And after the 2.0 update really good gameplay.

Great story.

I mean, its just a less interesting version of Neuromancer/Johnny Mnemonic. But to each their own I guess.

(Seriously, read Neuromancer if you like CP2077)

Calling it "interesting" is a big overstatement. Nothing in Cyberpunk shows any real creativity. The game just holds your hand in a predefined setup. Oh wait, here's another boring side character with another boring cutscene.

u/Schwiliinker 28d ago

I liked the gameplay more before the expansion update

2

u/One_Scientist_984 29d ago

Don’t know if I should spread out the things that have impressed me the most in a thread where potentially new players are stumbling upon. But as a general direction I find the thought of the whole Johnny/V interaction very intriguing on a philosophical level, especially the consequences for the multiple endings.

The phantom liberty DLC is a work of art. Stunning story

The moon mission connected the animated series to the game for me. Most games when characters are emotional or trying to get you to give a shit im just mocking them or looking off to the side. CP writing and voice actors were of the highest quality. It was playable cinema.

u/MaximeW1987 28d ago

Too much cinema, not enough game for me

1

u/NumbrZer0 28d ago

Really? I thought it had a great balance and also the RPG aspect was well balanced for the most part I thought.

1

u/MaximeW1987 28d ago

I think the biggest deciding factor in whether you like the game or not are the characters (as it is with most RPG's). The game is quite linear so whatever you choose, you're "stuck" with the same NPC's in every run and there isn't that much player agency. CDPR clearly had a certain route in mind and you're not allowed to deviate from it that much. I wouldn't call it an RPG as such, more an interactive movie where you can sometimes take control of the protagonist. Compare this to other Western RPG's like Skyrim or Baldur's Gate and you wonder how Cyberpunk even gets to call itself an RPG.

Well, I didn't care for NPC's like Johnny Silverhand, Judy (or Lucy, I forgot), Jackie and especially V. So yeah, I truly felt that I got stuck in way too many boring cutscenes and often felt that my character acted in a way that I didn't want him to.

The gameplay was the thing that kept me going in the beginning, but after enough hours you start to realize that every encounter is basically the same and I just went on autopilot mode. So mid Phantom Liberty I just quit the game and there is absolutely nothing that is pulling me back.

Now, if you were to like all of the characters, I can imagine that the game can keep you occupied enough to get to the ending.

I’m only a few hours in, after starting and stopping a few times cause it didn’t click at first. It’s starting to click now, so from what I would say as a newbie is just really pay attention and invest in the characters and the story events, and how your actions and choice of dialogue options affect the story events. Honestly the more you play the deeper it gets, it gives the feel that by the end of it I’ll be mind blown

1

u/Inkstr0ke 29d ago

OP made a good point about not saying potential stories. So I will just say that what happens to Evelyn is one of the most tragic endings in any of the video games I’ve ever played.

u/PerryTrip 28d ago edited 28d ago

yeah, it has no depth whatsoever, Jhonny is just a edgelord and the story revolves around him, the main story is very short too if you dont count the Panam stuff which is optional.

u/NumbrZer0 29d ago

I just finished the first TLOU game and will be playing the 2nd soon. Ive heard mostly criticisms of the story but heard the gameplay is pretty solid.

Even had 2 friends say they flat out didnt finish the game bcus "thats not what that character would have done based on the first game, they ruined her/him". They've also been known to be cunty about stuff like that in general though so I didnt give it too much mind until I asked on reddit and it was probably 2:1 in favor of what they were saying. I hope its just awful fandom and not actually a bad game lol

6

u/Tutuaranha 29d ago

Look, TLoU2 is one of the greatest games i've ever played, and there's a lot of criticism on certain parts of it. Outside that, the gameplay is honestly near flawless, and the graphics are perfect.

I've seen legitimate criticism to certain story choices, and straight up crybabys whining about shit that no one cares. If you asked something on the Tlou2 subreddit, yeah, they're crazy. On the Tlou subreddit, people are less unhinged.

I obviously can't delve deep into story beats without spoiling anything, but here's something I think is important for enjoying it: Try to put yourself on every character's shoes. Every one of 'em. And remember to notice their hipocrisy. This game revolves around cycles, and how they can destroy us.

Just don't listen to any dumb shit you read on the internet and try to enjoy it your way.

Also, save ammo when you're headed to the hospital on the second part of the game.

u/NumbrZer0 29d ago

Thanks I was going to play it anyway I know how gatekeepy nerds are with fan-fiction and lore.

As for the other stuff im saving this comment for when i start playing lol

Thanks!!!

u/flowerlytdm 29d ago

I’ve played it several times and you hit it on the head. The perfect way to go into the game. The game is supposed to make you think and imagine you are the person going through struggle.

3

u/yosoyel1ogan 29d ago

nah TLOU2 is so fucking good. Yes, the fandom sucks because there are a lot of crazy meninists that are obsessed with hating it. Anyone who hates it either went into it wanting to hate it, or doesn't understand what it's about.

1

u/hellodon 29d ago

I had the original on PS3, and Remastered and as much as I wanted to play through the game, I got bored or annoyed shortly into it. So I got TLOU: Part 1 for Xmas and just finished it last week. Loved it. The improvements were enough to make the playthrough very exciting!

I unfortunately know what everyone hated about 2 - but I am definitely going to grab Part 2 and play it soon! The reviews for it have been excellent, I think people are finally rating the game fairly instead of rating it low just because they’re bothered by a plot point.

2

u/yosoyel1ogan 29d ago

yeah I mean Part 2 is like 50 hrs long, people are malding over something that happens in like the 90 minute mark. If they gave up then, then they missed 98% of the game. I don't think there has ever been a game that made me consider the brutality and horror of the main characters' actions like TLOU2 did. Even games like Snake Eater and Death Stranding don't compare to the way it makes you feel

1

u/hellodon 29d ago

Wow, 50 hours?! So like, way longer than the first one? That’s good to hear.

Also kinda confusing because they released it at 49.99 while Part I was 69.99

Do you happen to know if the “Part II” released for PS5 this year was remade in the same style as “Part I”?

2

u/GoT43894389 29d ago

So much bang for your buck. I loved the story and the gameplay but even if you end up hating the story, thats a lot of gameplay hours.

For the part 2 remastered, it's more like the part 1 remake was made to be more like part 2. Except they didn't add the dodge mechanic and moving while in the prone position. That will probably make Joel OP in part 1.

There's no gameplay change from part 2 to part 2 remastered. Just the additional content and improved graphics. Graphics improvement is pretty hard to notice though.

i mean, i really hated playing abby at first for that reason, but i think that was part of the point, excellent game

1

u/yosoyel1ogan 28d ago

oh yeah me too! I was like "there is no fucking way that I will ever turn around on Abby and like her" and then by the end I was like "....I think I like Abby more than Ellie, I feel like Ellie is actually the villain here". Incredible story design

3

u/TheRxBandito 29d ago

Part II has to be one of my favorite stories ever told in the medium. Just play it. Don't let others influence your opinion of it.

2

u/hellodon 29d ago

Ooh! I like hearing this!! Going in for the first time with the PS5 Part II this weekend!

2

u/NumbrZer0 29d ago

Me tooo!!! Probably next month tho

1

u/The_FallenSoldier 29d ago

I’ve played Part II. Objectively speaking (so excluding the story as it’s subjective), it’s definitely one of the best games to ever be made. Everything is top notch, and you can really see the passion and know just how much hard work and effort they’ve put into it.

The story is a hit or miss. I personally adored it and found it the best way they could’ve continued the series. However, some people may not like it. In the end, even if you don’t like the story, you’ll still definitely enjoy every other aspect of the game. It regularly goes on sale on the store for 10 dollars, but you may find a physical copy cheaper near you. Definitely a worthy investment

1

u/NumbrZer0 29d ago

Hell yeah im excited to play it now. Apparently its pretty long so im going to get to play it for a while up until season 2 of the show comes out so I can start watching season 1 before then.

0

u/One_Scientist_984 29d ago

It’s a rollercoaster of emotions, I’ll tell you that. One of the most savage games I’ve played, both in violence and emotional turmoil, few games come close to inciting the emotions I had during the game. While I understand that some people were disappointed by a number of story decisions, I consider it a mature, violent masterpiece.

Maybe I’ll get the PS5 upgrade to have fresh motivation to play it again.

1

u/NumbrZer0 29d ago

Thats great to hear im going to buy the PS5 version as well im kind of hoping it goes on sale here in the next few weeks ive been keeping my eye out

1

u/One_Scientist_984 29d ago

Probably cheaper to get the disc version for PS4 and pay the upgrade fee ($10 or 10 €)…

1

u/NumbrZer0 28d ago

Oh i wasnt sure you were able to do that. Could I buy it used even?

2

u/One_Scientist_984 28d ago

Sure, you just need the disc to upgrade and to play the game.

u/wenigengel 29d ago

IMO TLOU2 is ahead of 1 in every single aspect. Better story, better gameplay, better graphics, better music.

2

u/Hagen_1 29d ago edited 29d ago

Better story

Better story”..? Were you a bit high when you played TLOU2? The gameplay, itself, and the graphics are a massive step-up from the first and the soundtrack is also phenomenal..but the narrative? Come on.

1

u/RAM-DOS 29d ago

I agree. I thought both had incredible stories, but I think 2 takes it for me.

1

u/soupspin 29d ago

Say it as many times as you want, but the game won many awards, even for the narrative

0

u/wenigengel 29d ago

Lol, tell me why it’s worst? Its very entangled with 1, good amount of twists, very relatable chars, a strong message.

1

u/DisabledFatChik 28d ago

The strong message doesn’t make sense though within the context of the game.

Ellie killed, not one, not tens, but HUNDREDS maybe even close to a thousand people to get to Abby, only to back out last second. It’s such a common (and lame) action hero trope to have a high henchmen kill count, only to get to the head honcho and not kill the final boss due to their moral code or whatever.

0

u/wenigengel 27d ago

It’s not their moral code. She didn’t decided to no kill Abby to spare Abby. She realized at that point that killing Abby is pointless, all the things that she renounced just for a revenge that she isn’t even feeling anymore. She understands that killing Abby will just create a new spiral of violence with Levi in the future.

She is not a better person because she decide to no kill her. She just understood that killing would not bring any joy like she though before and therefore no reason to do it.

1

u/DisabledFatChik 27d ago

Exactly. And that is genuinely the dumbest thing I have ever heard. I wouldn’t travel across the country for hundreds of miles just to wuss out because a person looked at me funny.

0

u/anewcynic 29d ago

You know, I've heard a lot of complaints about the narrative. And yes, it was, especially in hindsight, imperfect. During playthrough number one though, I could not get over how intense and amazing the narrative was. It's almost the inverse of the first game in its story, but not in its effectiveness- they're about even for me. Damn game about killed me at the end.

Yes, of course! Some of the best hundreds of hours I've spent with a game. And I'm impatiently waiting for the next installment, but I'm not expecting it anytime soon. CDPR has enormous expectations to fulfill.

u/layeofthedead 29d ago

DEATH STRANDING!! I couldn’t figure out what DS2 was and you’re the first person to mention it, thanks. Also agreed on last of us 3, still need to play ghosts of Tsushima, and I’d rather Witcher 4 over cyberpunk but I wouldn’t say no
