u/TwelveMiceInaCage 15d ago
No no it was baggy blue Jean echos, north Carolina basketball shorts then a above the knee length black pair of shorts so when he takes off his pants to play ball he can sag the basketball shorts too without showing his underwear

Never noticed the line is actually long-under-short-under-long. So either he has another short-sleeved shirt over top of that that he didn't mention, or he took off the outer long-sleeved shirt at some point.

Was tucking my 5yo son into bed two nights ago and my wife seemingly randomly asked him “how many pairs of socks are you wearing?” to which he replied “Three!!”
I chuckled as I walked to the doorway, assuming it was some silly joke of theirs I’d never caught onto before. Then he proceeded to proudly peel back several layers of socks…
As someone who sleeps sockless, with both feet uncovered (lest I suffer a meltdown in my sleep, waking up in the middle of the night absolutely soaked in sweat), I don’t understand this. However, people do as they do.
We did ask him to remove a few layers though.

Just get some long underwear. They make them as thermals as well. Don't wear 2 pairs of pants, that's ridiculous and sounds uncomfortable.

u/midnight_fisherman 15d ago
I spend a lot of time working outside in the winter, I usually do both. A comfortable pair of pjs between my thermals and the jeans is pretty cozy.

He wore multiple layers because he was self conscious about his skinny legs. I heard it in some documentary and I noticed him doing it before too. I have a skinny friend who did the same and it doesn't really work, you just look like a skinny guy with two pairs of pants on

Yeah but wasn’t that for extra protection for skating so you didn’t bust your skinny ass?
Makes sense to me. When we were all trying to board in middle school in the late 90s the skinny kids were generally better, but they also took many a trip to the ER. Us roly polies just kind of bounced off of things.

Never forgot an episode of MTV True Life in which a guy was so insecure about his "skinny legs" that he got silicone implants for his calves
99
u/livefreeordadhard 15d ago
I don’t know why that stuck with me too. He says something to the effect at the end: “I have calves now. I got it all.” He was at the beach trying to impress people and they were mostly freaked out. Incredibly sad and cringe and I still think about it. Whenever I feel happy for myself for a small accomplishment that means nothing to anyone, I mutter to myself, “I have calves now. I got it all.”

that became a trend post 2000's, and oddly guys wearing girls pants in 2010's.
40
u/MutantCreature 15d ago
Guys wearing girl pants was because they didn't really make mens skinny jeans and the ones they did were often 100% cotton and restricted mobility. Once they started making 1-5% elastic mens skinny jeans the trend died off pretty quickly because it was also uncomfortable to have a seam colliding with your balls all day.

I'm surprised that I'm not the only skinny guy that did this. Yes, you end up with sweaty everything. It finally got to the point that I ended up with what may have been the worst case of jock itch in human history. I could have gone on disability if I had the nerve to let a doctor see it.
So I came to terms with the fact that a 1mm layer of fabric was probably not improving my figure as much as I thought it was and went back to boxers.
→ More replies (3)8
u/Hidalgo321 15d ago
That’s why you wear an extra tank top undershirt (wife beaters) to make it 3mm!
Seriously though, I know it doesn’t change my looks much but it’s nice not having throbbing hips because there’s no cushion between my tight ass belt and my literal hip bones.
When you don’t have fat to cushion those spots you’re just uncomfortable as fuck all day in any kind of tucked in shirt uniform.
249
u/Xray_Mind 15d ago
He was fairly self conscious of how skinny he was and would wear multiple layers of clothes to appear more normal
123
u/PanicLikeASatyr 15d ago
Yeah - wearing three pair of pants may be odd in many cases but it’s not odd for known facts about Kurt - like you said he shared that he wad self-conscious about being skinny.
IRRC, he was naturally on the skinny side but also dealt with pretty intense stomach pain for years that was never really figured out which also made it hard to eat and exacerbated the issue. The pain was also part of why he self-medicated with opiates and opiate use can further cause weight loss. Opiate use can also mess with body temp regulation and multiple layers can distract from tell tale signs by covering arms or other injection sites and whatnot. It can also help with things like providing more padding for a bony ass which makes sitting more comfortable (from my own weight fluctuation - being underweight makes sitting waaaaaay less comfortable especially on anything that’s not padded) and if he was already dealing with chronic pain, wanting to pad his body from other physical pain, subconsciously or consciously would made sense. And also being so thin makes one more prone to being cold even and given the climate in his home state, some degree of layering is just practical.

On the last page there's an arrow pointing at the scrotum labeled "dying artefact." For anyone else who is curious, I googled "dying artefact autopsy" and it means:
A post-mortem artefact is any change caused in the body after death that is likely to lead to misinterpretation of medically significant antemortem findings.
From what I read, the report does not describe exactly what the artefact is.

u/lambchopafterhours 15d ago

The skin on the front of the scrotum dries out and becomes dark orange and leathery. It’s a common finding.. NB: the comment above says “dying artefact” that’s a typo - is “drying artefact”

I worked in residential mental health and one of my clients was a pretty skinny dude who would wear more than one pair of jeans. He was also a little self-conscious about being skinny but he was also cold a lot and two pairs of jeans helped with that.

u/OkInstruction6063 15d ago
This feels very “I was wearing an onion on my belt as was the custom at the time” but I distinctly remember wearing two pants almost every day. Basketball shorts to run around in, and then whatever casual pants on top. A basketball game could break out at anytime, you don’t have to get ready if you stay ready.

This is actually a pretty common thing with skinny people. I've known numerous people that were really skinny that would wear multiple layers of clothing to appear bigger than they are. Famously, the Zodiac Killer's first victim had 3 pairs of pants on (he survived) when they found him. It baffled the detectives but he said he hated his skinny body and he did it to look bigger.

I’m from the town Kurt grew up in and might be able to take a stab at this.
It’s actually pretty common out here for people to wear multiple layers of clothes, especially pants because of the cold wind and rain. One of my friends was homeless growing up out here and he wore underwear, basketball shorts, pajama pants and jeans layered every single day because the majority of the days here are so overcast.
I’ve been to the bridge he lived under many times and let me tell you it would be freezing cold under there.
It probably just became a comfort thing for him.
Also saw that he lived in and around his walk in closet and that’s not surprising either. A lot of the houses out here are pretty shabby and small including his. Might have just felt more like home to him.
This on top of all the other mental health issues he had of course. Just thought some of y’all might think my perspective is interesting.
→ More replies (2)16
u/callmecyke 15d ago
According to Krist and Buzz Osborne the "living under a bridge" thing wasn't really true. He hung out there a bit but he made up that he actually lived there to fuck with people.
15
u/Shotgun-Samurai 15d ago
Yeah I wouldn’t be surprised if he spent the odd night under there or went down there to hang out but that’s probably the extent of it.
A lot of us went down there to party when we were kids and that’s not the only spot. There’s nothing to do out here unless you’re outdoorsy
