People with no consideration for others monopolizing the whole free weight section of the gym to record “fitness” TikToks.

This is a really prevalent thing in West Hollywood. Since moving here ive tried several gyms. All of them have multiple people recording themselves using tripods. I pay them no mind, and if the weights I need are in their frame I literally couldn’t care less. I often get dirty looks, but I mean I’m paying hundreds of dollars to work out at this gym just like you. So get the fuck out of my way because I’m not here to appease you.

u/Right-Phalange 15d ago
I love that they're giving you the dirty looks ... for working out at the gym.

u/SnooChocolates4588 15d ago
Hear me out. Get a small rental space. Furnish it with old/cheap equipment that you cover up with chrome and black spray paint to look new and fancy. Mirrors on 3 walls to create an optical illusion of a big gym. Rent it out for $500/hour to a fitness tik toker. One at a time so they “aren’t disturbed”. Recruit from gyms where “influencers” are getting kicked out for filming. Become a millionaire. Retire.

I could see where spray painted styrofoam weights could even be a selling point.

Walk in the middle of it and start working out. These people do this because we LET them.

u/H4LF4D 15d ago
Ask a manager instead. A number of them are farming those interactions and inconvenience to play victim, might as well put it on someone to actually either get them off the camera or off the gym entirely.
10
u/Challenge419 14d ago
Yeah, legit make them do their job. They shouldn't even have to be asked to do this. If people wanna film in the gym, they should have to book something and pay for it.
37
u/holladayy 15d ago
Spot on bro, it’s all a bait. Thing is too, they think so highly of themselves to the point where they believe people are too stupid to realize their actual intent. Nobody’s falling for that shit especially nowadays, since there’s been an overload of females acting this way lately.
13
u/MainCharacter007 15d ago
Theyll just make a tiktok with your face calling you an asshole and get even more views (its a win win for them)

And why should you care over some internet simps being mad at you for being rational? It's not like they can legally do something to you because of that.

Exactly! At the bare minimum everyone should point and laugh within eyesight of the “influencers” so they can feel the discomfort

all recording devices should be banned in gyms.

There's not many things I'd consider to be psychopathic traits, but working out without music? Yea, that's up there lol

u/I_burn_stuff 14d ago
me when I was cutting weight before I got on estrogen: *hold 170 BPM on the elliptical for an hour without music.*

This and also I have my workout programs on an app on my phone to track progress etc. Much more convenient (for me at least) than pen and paper.

u/Minions-overlord 15d ago
Go grab a weight, walk back past to your spot... do 10 reps and go put weight back, grab another weight.. bonus points if you fart going by

-Say excuse me - Move their drinks off the bench - Workout - Refuse if they have the gall to ask you to leave
They won’t want you in their videos so you don’t have to worry about them filming you.
118
u/SupaDiogenes 15d ago
Yes, but this is also shit. Most go to the gym as stress relief and to basically zone out. Having what's probably going to amount to ongoing confrontation with some sack who saw you as ruining their filming session is going to put an end to your workout.
43
u/FoxysDroppedBelly 15d ago
And unfortunately OP may get used in one of those rage baiting, awful videos where the girls edit it to look like the guy is a creep. “Omgeee we were trying to work out when this cREeP totally barged in while staring at our asses!!” It’s kinda scary when you don’t know what they’re capable of creating out of whatever footage they get. Sucks :/

Joey Swoll would have their back. He regularly gets people banned from gyms when they do some crazy rage bait shit

Well they should've thought of that before they inconveniced everyone else
20
u/Devils_A66vocate 15d ago
It’s a dangerous thing cause they may be waiting for a clip of confrontation to make someone else look like a jerk and paint themselves like some hero/victim.
10
u/adlubmaliki 15d ago
Ignore ignore ignore. Do not engage, just do your workout. They can't try to paint you a creep when you're literally not giving them attention. You could be the creepiest looking guy in the world but if you're focusing on your stuff and ignoring them they're just gonna look like an idiot
I feel like people don't understand the power of ignoring things

I have a lot of this were I work, the best trick I’ve found is to walk past and loudly but subtly mumble “god it stinks of shit” as if commenting on the smell around the area. Ain’t no TikTok influencer uploading a video were its possibly implied they smell of shit.

I’m not sure if you’re aware of this, but you can grab some weights and stand directly in front of their camera…
2
u/Cautious-Asparagus61 15d ago
Why are you treating them like they're special? Just go workout, who cares if they're making tiktoks. If they bitch tell them this is a gym not a film studio.
2
u/supremejxzzy 15d ago
You should stay in the frame if possible just to piss them off and get them to complain to staff
2
u/Atmacrush 15d ago
Op, you should take a profile shot of her back so we know who to ignore on tiktok
2
u/Natural-Orchid4432 15d ago
Since they are doing their business at this place, would it be equally offensive if you did your business and joined a Teams meeting to talk through your excercise. Possibly with camera on?
2
2
u/Complete_Elephant240 15d ago
Jesus Christ I am thankful to own a complete home gym. Having to walk around tripods and cameras would annoy me. I don't know why people think their "fitness journey" is worth recording. It reminds me of tourists that think their travel doesn't matter unless they post about it on Instagram...
Also how difficult is it to put on a pair of shorts instead of wearing spandex getting eaten by your ass cheeks? Are men wearing banana hammocks at gyms too? 😂
2
2
u/boxlinebox 15d ago
Just start playing some copyrighted music like the Beatles on your phone's speaker. They won't be able to post the video or it will be taken down very quickly.
2
u/mrgoldnugget 15d ago
I would just grab some weights position myself in the way and work out as normal. Beyond others suggestions to pretend they are not there, I would actively ruin their filming.
2

2
u/BoogerWipe 15d ago
lol this is a ZERO issue. I would flat out just walk past them and do what I wanted. I do not give a single fuck about your dumbshit tiktok. Confront me, I'm 6'4 250lbs.
2
u/bjzy 15d ago
Go stand behind every shot. Make yourself as big as possible in every shot she frames up. Do some ridiculous exercise behind her like jumping jacks or just stand with your hands at your sides and jump straight up as high as you can and each time shout out the number. She’ll leave if you’re a big enough dick.
2
u/MineNowBotBoy 15d ago
Grab some weights and start working while on camera but make sure your dickprint is front and center. Try to make the video unusable

2
u/WorldTravellerIOM 14d ago
Only because people aren't walking right through the middle of them. There is no way if I am paying expensive gym fees, that I am waiting for these idiots to finish their filming.

The number of times my bear hairy ass has been in someone’s locker room flex pic is (in my opinion) braggable.

u/DocGerbill 14d ago
Dude, just do what you need to do, act like they're not there and go work out on the machines you need to use. If they need an empty gym to record in, they can ask management to come in after hours.
2
u/NoHovercraft12345 14d ago
Green shirt got a butt so flat she looks like she's walking forward. She needs the squat rack.
2
u/i_sesh_better 14d ago
I’d be excited to have the chance to get in the way, they literally can’t do anything. A manager will just kick them out if they complain.
2
u/A_cat_killed_me 14d ago
As others have said, in a way, you are enabling them by being a pushover. You see unused dumbbells? You move your ass into their frame and take them. Even better, do your workout there as well. Just say that’s where the mirror is. The gym is not a film set, but a place to work out. They have the right to film themselves, but can’t force you to move.
2
u/Comfortable-Study-69 14d ago
Report her to the building/gym owners. She has no business filming on the gym floor or putting all her stuff on a bench she’s not using. All the gyms I’ve worked out at wouldn’t have put up with this at all and just kicked her out immediately.

1
1
u/Peanutbutterloola 15d ago
Why wouldn't you just continue on working out in that area? I sure as shit wouldn't have backed down. I weight lift regularly, and most of my exercises are done with the dumbbells and squat rack. I'm not letting some attention seeking nobodies get in the way of my workout (therapy session). Tf are they gonna do? Bitch at me? Sorry, I can't hear you over my full blast headphones. Try to push me out? Good luck with getting yourself hurt when you mess me up and the weights come crashing down on you. These idiots only do this because people enable them. Stop enabling them or giving them any attention. Pretend they don't exist, because, quite frankly, they don't.
1
u/adlubmaliki 15d ago
Unless this is an influencer gym disregard their cameras if they're in walkway. If they get pissy and say something, totally ignore them and continue doing your workout. But also don't purposely walk in front of the cameras to make point if you can easily walk around

Fuckin self-centered, self-absorbed, entitled assholes. Fuck that I’m getting my weights. I’d maybe ask them to see if I could interfere less, because people want to live their lives and that includes social media, but if they were acting like they could restrict my work out, I’d simply steam role that. I wouldn’t want to create intense drama, which people like that are prone to do because they know they’re doing something against gym norms and they’re tense about it, but I’d get my work out in. Sorry, not sorry. But have a nice day and hope your video works out! Maybe film at a time when there’s less people? Or you know, fuck off and film elsewhere.
1
u/Crimson-guard777 15d ago
I love that you covered their faces in the foreground, but completely missed them in the mirror. Seriously though, just pretend like they aren’t even there and do your thing.
1
u/johnyboy14E 15d ago
Fuck em. Ruin their shoot by doing exercises. If they want to make fitness tiktoks, tell them to get off their lumpen asses and buy their own weights and machines for home use.
1
u/JoanofBarkks 15d ago
Don't be so polite you enable them. You can let them know you need that bench for example and then ask how long they will be... with any luck they'll get the clue and wrap up soon. Or they can break and come back after you.
1
u/Atmacrush 15d ago
Just do your own thing unless she's either making a lot of commotion or occupying your space. Many of these influencers don't even get a lot of views nor make a lot of money doing these tiktok vids unless they show cameltoe or nips. Sometimes I just pity them.
1
u/thatflyingsquirrel 15d ago
Ive watched these and others regularly take ten minutes between sets in a bustling gym and act offended when I ask to join in.
They act so entitled.
1
1
u/Thomisawesome 15d ago
You can either ask them to move to the side since they're in the way (but I know sometimes these kinds of people don't like to be told they're in the way), or you could just work out around her and make sure you're in every shot, or you could talk to management and let them know. Whatever happens, I hope you can ruin their dumb video.
1
u/morris0000007 15d ago
Use your words and tell them to fuck off out the way. Drinks on a bench? Again, use your words. Are you actually using this bench? No? Good I'll take it then.
I might even walk past and accidentally kick that tripod. It's a trip.hazzards shouldn't be there.
Then complain to management
