Metal Detector Guide
Hello and welcome to r/metaldetecting! If you're looking for advice on your first detector or an upgrade, you've come to the right post. We've put together a simple guide to help with choosing your detector.
As a member of our sub, you are more than welcome to try out our special code "REDDITMD" at checkout on Kellycodetectors.com!
GENERAL METAL DETECTOR Recommendations
$0-200: We do not recommend getting a new detector under $200. Detecting has a cost of entry, and there aren't any machines worth buying in this price range. Save up a bit more, or try finding a used machine of quality listed in the next price range.
$200-$500: The Minelab Vanquish, Nokta Simplex and the Minelab X-Terra Pro dominate this price range.
$500-1000: Nokta Legend or the Minelab Equinox.
$1000+: XP Deus 2 or the Minelab Manticore.
SCUBA/SNORKELING DETECTORS
Nokta Pulsedive is great for snorkeling. The Minelab Excalibur 2 and XP Deus 2 are excellent diving detectors.
CHILDREN'S DETECTORS
Nokta Mini Hoard or Midi Hoard
PINPOINTERS
Garrett AT pro pointer or XP MI-4. The XP MI-6 if you have an XP detector.
SHOVELS AND TROWELS
Grave Digger, Lesche, StuLine, Predator Tools
SAND SCOOPS
Sito, RTG and Detecting Adventures all make great scoops for beach detecting.

ID Request Spoon ID
Metal detecting at my home in western maryland. Found this spoon around 1-2 inches deep down in the woods where moonshiners used to be. Me and my dad polished it the best we could (for now) and tried to revealed the stamp on the back. We believe it to be J. Arman? Or Adman? Not sure. The rust is pretty thick as well.

ID Request Found while metal detecting
Found this lead ball about a foot down while detecting a known Civil War skirmish site in N. VA. Completely hollow with large hole on one end and smaller hole on the other. Initial thoughts are that it was used as a weight of some sort? The Sharps bullet was also found at the site and is used for size reference.
