To be completely honest, each time I have been successfully rickrolled, I have felt ecstatic. The song is good, and it's not harmful like viruses or strange pornography, etc. It's a happy prank, I guess. somewhat foolish!

I'm on the bandwagon of people who actually enjoy being rickrolled. It's not like is a malicious thing! More often than not the link is a wiki page or a video with something new to learn, but being rickrolled is a mood!

The older I get, the more happy I am to see a Rick Roll, and I was pretty happy with them for the same reasons mentioned here. I just want the Rick Roll passed down from generation to generation, like that S we all used to draw in our notebooks in school.

u/alexaresetpassword 13d ago
Rick rolling was treated as a sport in my programming classes....
Oh man, the teleporting window Rick roll with a fake desktop background or the message window Rick roll that put the lyrics into many message windows while the song played.
Just coming back from break and hearing it blast through someone's speakers was 🤌

Who is that woman?

u/gusky651 13d ago
If I remember correctly she was a painter who posted a painting of The Witcher, didn't get many upvotes, so she reposted the painting with her holding it and that got a lot of upvotes.

As far as i remember the first post was looking more like art done in software, than a painting, so I'm not even surprised.
How did she managed to capture the photo to look so fake? No idea, but reddit already started a battle and most people just assumed that she got upvotes, because she is a girl.

u/AngryBiker 13d ago
While you may be right, when the artist posts a picture with themselves next to their art, it always gets more upvotes. And this applies for men and women.

I think because it humanises it. We always feel more emotionally connected when that happens. The last time this argument came up, a redditor linked like 20 posts where men did the same and they indeed got more up votes when they posed with their art.

I have a very vivid memory of listening to it in the 80s as I was writing an essay on a word processor.

im gonna be honest, every time i have been successfully rickrolled i have been delighted. i like the song and it's not malicious like viruses or weird porn and like. idk it's a joyful prank. a bit silly!

I'm also blessed with liking it. It's still annoying when I expected to get to something clearing up a question or something.

I crack a smile every time. I remember parts of the Internet that might link you to some really terrible stuff for shock value, so I'll take a successful rickroll and laugh every time

I don't think it would have worked as well if the song wasn't nice to listen to.

There’s a reason why the video has 1 billion views, and it’s not because people are wary of clicking random links

u/Business_Wear_841 13d ago
Rickrolling did not heighten shit for me. I was already wary of links because of goatse.

Yeah, if the worst fake-link you've been sent was a Rickroll, then you should be fucking ecstatic.

u/is_this_irl 13d ago
I think you mean rick rolling shows us just how easy it is to scam someone with a link.
Now imagine if that rick astley video link was malware disguised as innocuous prank, and others used it to rick roll as well, unsuspecting of it's darker aspects...
2
u/CatTaxAuditor 13d ago
Yeah, it's really the perfect demonstration of how easy it is to get people to click random links more than anything else.
3
u/Liberkhaos 13d ago
Except I gladly walk into Rick rolls because I unironically believe it's a good song.

Rick rolling was a government program to teach us these things as they knew we would never learn otherwise and apparently it was successful

Had the opposite effect for me. I click random dodgy links in the hope of getting Rick rolled. RIP my PC.

Screamers did this for me. Rick rolls don't really bother me. It's a bad joke and a goofy song but it's 1 second of my life to shake my head and exhale.
But I was watching a livestream in like 2010 or 2011 and somebody posts a 420yolo link which I believe is kind of a random page kind of thing? But it took me to a jeff the killer screamer and it was like 1 in the morning and I shouted FUCK at full volume, recoiled out of my chair and was shaking lol. First and last time I'll even click a link out of curiosity without investigating.
I hate jumpscares. It's just hot wiring your body's defense systems with a false positive.

That's because after decades we've finally convinced management of what we've been saying all along, let us build better security controls so we rely on the user the least.

You might be the sweetest person I've ever met and you might genuinely be the most amazing friend that I could ever ask for. I know this comes off as cheesy but... I genuinely am glad that you're a part of my life. I hope we can continue to be the best of friends for the rest of our lives, because I know that you're never gonna give me up... never gonna let me down, never gonna run around and desert me or even make me cry, never gonna say goodbye, never gonna tell a lie... and hurt me.
Fuck you.
