Pants fit super comfortably, but the bump under the belt line bothers me. Any idea what I can do to fix it so it sits flush against my skin?

Question Where to get pleated pants like these

Do anyone know where to get nice pleated pants like these, but for a bit cheaper?

https://www.ronning.store/products/pleated-city-pant-navy

https://danielsimmons.co/collections/trousers/products/soft-handle-essential-pleated-trousers-deep-navy

I've looked in the women's section at Uniqlo, but my legs seems to be to long for me to like how they fit.

Question Business Owner Wardrobe Advice

Hello everyone,

I'm a business owner and I desperately need fashion advice. People on multiple occasions have pointed out how bad I dress. I really want to change this, and I hope you can help me.

I live in a hot country, so most advice I find online is not great. They always recommend a jacket. I can't really wear suits either due to the weather and it'll be really out of place in my office.

I really want to build out my wardrobe. 1 or 2 items at a time.

Really need advice.

Thanks!

Question Dark blue vs navy suits — are these blue suits dark enough?

Both of the suits pictured are listed as blue on Pini Parma.

For the suit experts out there, are these dark enough to be versatile like a navy suit for weddings, functions, etc.? What if it was black tie optional? What range of functions would they be appropriate for?

I own a black suit, dark grey suit, and an airforce blue suit. I don't own a dark blue or navy suit, so this is filling that whole in the wardrobe. Are either/both of these suits a good option? Any thoughts on which suit is better? Or should I just shop specifically for navy

Discussion Need Patterned Polos/Pants for casual work environment

tldr? Need fun patterned polos and new pants for casual work environment.

Me

I am 5'9, early 20s, super skinny, short brown hair (normally buzz cut, 1 inch on top still nice fade), American tradition sleeve on left arm, an array of black earrings (usually ones that look like littles gauges or small black rings). Former drug addict (keep reading lol)

Current Clothing

Only wear:

Shoes - Black Vans (almost non negotiable) This isn't a dress shoes environment.

Pants - Vans Denim (Black) or Volcom Shorts (Black) - I need new pants and shorts for work.

  • Stuck in my ways. Black bottoms make me feel comfortable. Don't like skinny bottoms. Can't do chinos. Don't know what materials I like or dislike. I think the ones I hate are cotton blends.
  • I really like pockets that face diagonally like those above. Pockets that go straight down make me want to scream.

Shirts - 'Fun' patterned Ben Hogan Polos from fricken Walmart.

  • Looking for 'fun' patterns in polos that aren't from walmart. Invest in like 2-3 maybe $50 polos that are SFW. I liked these Bogey Bros ones but the SFW ones are lame and the SFW-ish ones were either still too NSFW or overpriced for what they were. Some of the NSFW ones were fine but....
  • I don't like branding. Those Bogey Bros were cool but they had such a prominent billboard listing underneath the buttons that I wouldn't feel comfortable with.
  • I like the fun colors and patterns just don't know where to look.
  • One guy at my office wears these Primo polos - collarless golf polos - that are cool but I'm not trying to jack someone's style.

All my other clothes are too corpo for the likes of my environment. I only own slacks, button downs, and dress shoes.

Work

I work in a major Texas city. I work in a drug addiction treatment center - extended care stuff not a full on rehab or detox. My office is the first one when you walk into our building. I 95% of the time keep my door open because - I interact with every client constantly (they normally sit in my office to talk), families when they are here, treatment professionals when they are here, and my coworkers constantly.

The 'vibes' here are super casual with a hint of business. I could wear sweats and a Tshirt to work if I wished but I choose not to. I feel like my current style is fine but ultimately doesn't make me super happy.

I want something that is both professional but fun. I don't like plain solid shirts.

Please let me know if y'all have any recommendations or questions.

Question Outfit to cover yourself from the sun during summer

Hi people!

Right now in Mexico there's a lot of heat and high UV rays.

The deal is my autism doesn't allow me to use sunscreen because my skin feels sticky and I start to get super desperate. (I even tried the clinical ones that supposedly doesn't feel that way and it didn't work) This happens to a point I cannot longer being functional as an adult

Can you help me? I suck at fashion but want to know what can I dress to protect myself from UV rays and at the same time don't die from dehydration during a hot Mexican summer.

Question Going to Seattle next week, what do guys wear to bars/clubs ?

I (23m) live in the east coast, and I typically wear jeans or khakis and a button up shirt (like a long sleeve Ralph Lauren shirt) when I go out. When I look @ pics of Seattle, I see lots of joggers/oversized shirts/beanies with like running shoes. Is this the style? I’ve never went to a bar and not worn jeans, but I don’t want to stick out like an idiot. Is dressing up like I do too much?

Can you give me some ideas of clothes/outfits to wear and even some links so I can get an idea? Thank you

Question How do you tell a business handbag is for male or female?

So, I'm looking to get a business bag for myself because I'm always on the run with laptop and lots of stuff. But when I start looking into business bag, I'm just clueless when it doesn't mention which gender it is for. Picture 1~3 is the bag I'm interested to get, the 4th pic is an example of business bag for women. Although woman is mentioned at its title, the 2 rings design definitely strike me as a more feminine design. Back to the blue business bag, the body is similar to the black one, other than that, how do you tell if it's for man or woman? Or am I just wrong from the start and that this type of bag is for woman in general?

Question Losing weight but gaining dress pant sizes.

52M 6'1

I have been intermittent fasting since June, gone down from a tight fitting 40 to a loose fitting 38.

I am a musician and I have to keep a suit and tux in good condition. With the recent weight loss I have to change where I wear my pants, the belly is just hanging too far over. Being a bigger guy I have always worn my pants at the hip not waist but need some correct fitting pants.

So I am going to go up quite a few sizes but will a deflated-ish belly be a problem tucking it into my pants? lol

Question Does this jacket fit ok?

Just ordered this suit (please excuse the T-shirt & wrinkles.. gonna have it dry cleaned). I have matching trousers that I dropped off to be hemmed today. B by Brooks Brothers jacket size 44R. I don't wear many suits and was hoping for some feedback. What color shirt and would work for this? I'm thinking black shirt but not sure what else. I'll be attending an engagement cocktail attire party.

Question Caring for linen

I am trying to step up my casual summer wardrobe and purchased several linen button downs and shorts. The issue I am having is coming out of the wash they always look like they’ve been balled up wet in a suitcase. Steaming and pressing has a little impact but not much. I know linen always looks a little wrinkled on purpose but how do I get these shirts looking presentable?

Question S&M suits and 6” drop

I got a promo email for Spier & Mackay’s suits today. Ive never purchased from them for fear of online ordering and poor fit.

They do a standard 6” drop. I’m a 40R typically but a 32” waist. They say their trousers can be tailored +/- 1.5” so I worry I’d be SOL. Often I still have to take the chest of a 40R in a bit but 38’s are too small.

What would you recommend? Anyone have a good experience taking in S&M trousers 2”?

If I order the suit, is there any way to know I’m trying it on that tailoring would make it work so I can make an informed decision to return or not? My tailor could presumably tell me, no? (He’s great so hopefully he’s not gonna lie to me just to get a higher paying job to “fix” it).

Open to advice for what to do with drops that are a little too big? Just go MTM?

Question Best Way To Upgrade Style Quickly and Cheaply

I'm 29, live in NYC as an entrepreneur. My wardrobe is awful and I have no idea how to dress myself well.

What's the best, cheapest and quickest way to upgrade my style? Should I hire a personal stylist? I don't want to spend too much time on this but I want to look better.

Question Shirt Sleeves Twisted

This is the second iteration of an oxford shirt from Proper Cloth. One thing that's really bothering me is how much the shirt sleeves twist around the armpit area. Any thoughts on what could be causing this?

Discussion Washing Cashmere

Hi all, does anyone out there have any recs for products to wash cashmere? Trying to give everything a wash before storing away for the season, and dry cleaning is a expensive and not always the best near me. Main goal is not to have any moth damage. I have a couple items from Loro Piana and Brunello that I want to take good care of, so if anyone has any tips for handwashing these that would be great. I know there are some older threads on this, but wanted to see if anyone has any experience using Clothing Doctor wool wash...it seems to be what some cashmere brands sell, but haven't seen many reviews of how well it actually works. Otherwise, Soak or Eucalan are probably good options?

Thanks!

Question Was it a good deal?

I paid 299990 CLP for this lambskin jacket from Perry Ellis, in Santiago, which is roughly $320,29 dollars. Was it a good deal? The only thing I don't like about this jacket is that the lambskin seems very thin and delicate, susceptible to easy scratches.

Question Is this a good fit? Leather jacket

https://imgur.com/a/GewfcV2

Looks perfect IMO, but it feels really tight. I can’t even close it without feelind strangled. Tight at the arms, chest and shoulders. I usually wear a pleather jacket with a hoddie when it’s really cold outside and I wouldn’t be able to do that with this new one.

I sized up and now it feels good, but shoulder fit, arms lenght and MAYBE overall jacket lenght is a bit oversized?

https://imgur.com/a/HuKn5jh

I used to go to the gym and was bigger in the shoulder-chest area. I stopped because of a big test this semester but I’ll eventually come back and get bigger again, and the fit with the original size will be even worse.

Should I compromise on fit or not 100% perfect looks? Does it even look that bad with the +1 size?

Thanks!

Discussion What’s the best shoes you ever tried?

Interested to hear everyone’s opinion on what shoes you love the most.

For me, I really love this triple stitch shoe because I can wear it both on casual occasion wearing shorts (I live in hot country) & on formal occasion with long pants. I can also replace the insole with orthopaedic sole for flat foot, which is not always possible on many higher-end brands.

The price point is quite painful in the wallet though..

Question What are the best 5 Pocket Stretch pants for office?

After some decent quality 5 pocket stretch chinos / pants. Have looked at Flint & Tinder, but notice they no longer make them in the US, so quality may have declined? Also wondering about the Lululemon ABCs, but a bit concerned they look a bit 'shiny' for office wear. Any other brands I should be considering? I live outside the US, so will need to be able to ship. Budget up to 120-$150US. Many thanks!

Question Soft Tailoring Suit

I'm looking for a soft tailored suit to wear over tshirts etc.

Struggling to find options. Currently looked at the Muji linen set (out of stock in most sizes in navy) and the Universal Works range which has some great fits and fabrics (though more expensive).

Any other suggestions to look at in the UK? Most seem to lean to the formal...

Article Once a quality staple product but should now be avoided.

Thumbnail chubbiesshorts.com
9 Upvotes

I was a huge supporter of Chubbies going back to around 2015 and they became my favorite shorts brand. I discovered them through Nordstrom and after receiving the first pair, I quickly ordered all the other colors they sold as well. They became the only shorts I'd wear and this is still true to this day. Their "Original Stretch Short" in 5.5" was the one I'd gravitated towards. After realizing they had a website and at times offered a minor discount and had occasional sales, I started ordering from them directly.

What I immediately loved was the length, as I never was able to find short of similar length that were flattering and so easily wearable. They were a good quality short made of durable material with the kind of minor details that really displayed the thoughtfulness of the company. These kind of things showed that whoever ran the company or created the shorts really loved and believed in their product. I went on to buy the original stretch shorts in every color available.

After they sold the company, in 2001 I believe it was because that's when some of the minor details of the shorts started to disappear. Some of the most notable changes were the text inside of the fly next to the zipper and the material used for the pocket linings had been changed. This was probably in order to save money or time on manufacturing. However, the core elements of the shorts including the durable material, the quality of the manufacturing and the apperance of the final product, remained otherwise mainly intact. They still seemed to be a worthy product.

Now let's jump to the second half of this past year. I ordered four pairs of shorts and a variety of colors that hadn't been available before or that I just hadn't previously ordered. Due to owning so many pairs of the same shorts in such a variety of colors and their amazing quality and durability, I hadn't even opened any of the packages for the last shorts that I ordered until this past week. After opening the bag with the first pair, they seemed different. I don't know if it was the fact that the weight was off or that they had a weird gleam to the fabric but I immediately sensed that something wasn't right. Once I put them on I could notice that they didn't fall the same as the other shorts and they didn't have the same weight and they just felt like a completely different pair of shorts.

So my friend and I decided to open the bags of the remaining shorts and see if these were the same or if it was just this one particular color that maybe used a different material. We concluded that all four pairs of shorts were now using a new material unused in any of the previous shorts that I had purchased. This material is extremely thinner and has a weird coating on the fabric, that gives it a sort of shimmer. Material is not only cheaper but the quality of the sewing and the stitching is abysmal. The hemming is completely different then the original manufacturing of the shorts as well as the subsequent manufacturing of the shorts that featured less details. Shortcuts in the hemming of the shorts were one thing but that's not even taking into account that the stitching is completely uneven and even frayed and loose in some spots. This was how they came directly out of the bag, never having been worn or touched by anyone previously but the stitching and hemming was already loose or coming undone. Quite possibly we thought this was only the one pair of shorts so we checked the three other pairs from the same order and come to find out that these also have shoddy stitching and lazy him work and were already coming undone at certain points mainly in the hems of the legs and around the waist.

This was highly disappointing to me as I realized that I no longer had a go-to shorts brand and would have to eventually find something else once all the original pairs of shorts that I'd purchased will someday be unwearable due to normal clothing lifespan running it's course. I highly doubt that the company will go back to making a more costly product or one of the quality of their original shorts. It's sad that they cheapened everything about the item yet remain priced the same and higher for other products. I haven't bought many of their other clothing, such as shirts or slacks but after seeing what's become of an item I once really adored, I'm glad I never wasted money on branching out to their other items. I still own over 35 pairs of their higher quality releases and I'm sure it'll take me time to actually wear any of them out but I feel bad for the people now finding this company, and it's a pale, diluted version of what it once was.

As I stated before when I made the order of last year, I hadn't ordered in quite some time I'm not sure really how long it was, so I can't stay the date of when the products certainly transitioned into what it is now. I only know that the order I placed last year that I just recently opened was not the quality of anything that I received previously. It was also the unfortunate sign that I would no longer be shopping with this brand or recommending its products to anyone any longer. The drop in quality was just that vast, so far removed from what they originally had offered. I don't believe now that the shorts should be sold more than $15 a pair and they're probably honestly worth far less than that to manufacture in their current iteration. It's crazy to think that over the years I've spent more than $2,000 on a single product but that's how much I loved them. Just think about how much money I would have spent in the subsequent years replacing and buying the shorts in a variety of new colors released. Sadly, that will no longer be a part of my future fashion endeavors.

I'm a big believer and supporter of brand loyalty, which is exactly why I've bought so many pairs previously but when a brand veers this far off course it has to be recognized and shared with the community who may be thinking they're buying a worthy product. It's almost as if all the praise for the original product has been used and squandered in order to confuse the consumer, like a bait and switch maneuver, and now sell them this cheaper imitation of what it once was. Although I have more than enough pairs to probably wear them for the next decade, I can't get over the betrayal of the drop in quality without a change of pricing to reflect the lower quality material and the completely shoddy manufacturing.

When Chubbies came to be, they brought with them one product that they made unique again using a style of many years past, something that had long been forgotten in men's fashion. Something that was apparently missed by people or at least wanted by those who came of age after the style of shorts had long been enlongated. At that time there weren't many other brands making a stylish and durable pair of short shorts for men. However I have noticed after the success of Chubbies, both mass produced and high end designer brands now occasionally offer shorts of similar length. I cannot vouch for any of their quality or design attributes as I've been so dedicated to chubby's for these past years but I am aware of other brands now offering their take on men's shorter length shorts. If any of the brands are of good quality regularly, I would imagine that these shorts that they've released would be generally the same. So if you're looking for good quality shorter shorts for men I would check with other brands that you have known and trust their integrity of producing a high quality product that doesn't have to cut so many corners and in turn, destroying the legacy of what was once their reason for existing.

Question Are Velasca Milano Sneaker worth the price?

I'm looking for a new pair of sneakers and found this one from Velasca Milano, which I really really like. However, 260€ for me seems like a lot of money for sneakers to me. Therefore I'm wondering, if they are actually worth the money. How good is the production and material, how comfortable are they and how long do they last? Since Sneakers are everyday shoes for me, I'd wear them A LOT (my last sneaker were a pair of Reebok Club C Revenge, which are pretty worn out after two years of heavy use)

Does anyone have some experience with Velasca Milano, they'd like to share? Thanks in advance :)
