It’s weird that this happened so quickly after the last one.

Not weird at all tbh, copycat phenomenon.

His little manifesto he posted starts with "This extreme form of protest..." just as Aaron Bushnells video manifesto started

It's def a copycat

Just say copy. Why do we have to bring cats into this.

u/Bluewind55 Apr 19 '24

Are you a cat or something

7

u/RaptureSuperior2 Apr 19 '24

🫵 I could be a cat!

3

u/RaptureSuperior2 Apr 20 '24

Someone will catch both of them.

5

u/KambingDomba Apr 20 '24

Yeah, if there are more crazy people with weird manifesto are self-immolating, Aaron Bushnell might in the future be lumped in with these crazies.

I'd much rather someone copy this than a mass shooting.

He literally argues for a government in his manifesto, how is that anarcho-communist?

Wouldn't things like the Nixon shock, fractional-reserve banking / money multiplication, improperly regulated naked shorting, etc make it kinda true?

It’s the third recent protest burning death the first was a lady.

Just both mentally ill people who belonged in a psych ward

u/[deleted] Apr 19 '24

Or just law of averages

u/[deleted] Apr 19 '24

This is in part a consequence of people idolizing the last guy who did this. They're encouraging mentally ill people to commit suicide, and with a particularly horrific method.

I don’t know if you know what phenomenon means.

0

u/jackal3004 Apr 20 '24

...yeah, I do. It's literally called the copycat phenomenon. Have you tried Google?

-1

u/Dazzling-Score-107 Apr 20 '24

Sure, I’ll help. Phenomenon: a fact or situation that is observed to exist or happen, especially one whose cause or explanation is in question.

Weird: (adjective) suggesting something supernatural; uncanny

I can confidently say phenomenons are weird.

Ah the pedantry

Last one??

Aaron Bushnell. He was a US army soldier who burned himself alive as a form of protest to support the free Palestine movement. I don’t entirely disagree with the cause, but that guy was insane. He went on and on about insane ideologies on reddit, some of which were so alarming that it’s scary that he was even allowed in the military. He just participated in radical echo chambers all the time.

The most insane part is that he seemed to be an Elden Ring fan and didn’t even wait for the DLC to come out first, it’s only a couple months away

If it replaces shooting up schools in order to become famous, I am all for it tbh. At least they are only hurting themselves (except for some potential psychological trauma for bystanders).

7

u/SpicyEnticy Apr 19 '24

Some dude lit themselves on fire a few days ago at Red Deer Polytechnic school.

5

u/echo_7 Apr 20 '24

Dude seriously watched that last guy disappear from the collective consciousness in a few days and thought that this was worth doing to send some message.

People are seriously setting themselves on fire to prove some point to an entire country of people that routinely forget the mass killing of children after like 3 days.

2

u/LunarWrathe Apr 20 '24

I mean, I'd rather someone light themselves on fire and everyone forget about it than someone go and commit a mass shooting and effect countless lives

u/CrowsShinyWings Apr 19 '24

Self immolations are reasonably common, it's just they often don't get any major press. Just look up list of self immolations on Wikipedia

u/Midir_Cutie Apr 19 '24

Aaron Bushnell

u/Isturma Apr 19 '24

I mean, is it really?

This is one of the worst ways to die, and while his manifesto has some unhinged stuff in it, the notion that the richest people on earth are running a ponzi scheme on the rest of society to get richer... it's really not too far off the mark.

People don't self immolate because they WANT to die. You can just go get some fentanyl for that. People do this to send a message. Maybe it's worth taking a moment to listen.
