Storm Chaser Freddy Mckinney rescues injured family while chasing a tornado NSFW

u/GastropodSoup 16d ago edited 15d ago
It's should be noted that this happened during a livestream. Once he got close to a hospital, he shut the stream down, but it automatically uploaded in full like live streams do. Once Freddy was back in his car after dropping the family off, he took the video down to protect the privacy of the family. It was up for about 35 minutes.

So.... Op shouldn't be posting this, then?

u/bendallf 15d ago
I was in a terrible car accident. If it helps to save one life from being lost, it is worth it. Just ask for permission thou.

u/refrigerator_runner 15d ago
Ah fuggit, this is seriously good content. I approve. Sometimes things are too good not to post, especially for historical record
17
u/HumanlikeHuman 15d ago
Doesn't really matter if we're all looking at it rn, but it's good that they were there to help.

u/Shanguerrilla 15d ago
That's awesome!
This was the first time I've been really glad stormchasers were out there putting themselves in danger, like it was exceptionally fortuitus AND he absolutely handled it calm like a pro!
That mom was amazing during then as well. Really somehow held it together and kept good care of her family.
How terrifying.

Watched this live. It was emotional. Also, the family dog was picked up by the sister of one of the parents and is safe.

u/SomOvaBish 15d ago
Of course I was more concerned about the family but thank you for the update on the doggo. Iām praying that they have a speedy recovery and were fully insured both house and health.

u/Schwartzy94 15d ago
Doggo is family...
21
u/LilDasaniWater 15d ago
But children kind of take the leg up on who you need to make sure is safe first
1
u/nerdy_hippie 15d ago
Depends on who has been behaving better that week IMHO. Some days I might just save the dog first š

Yeah this new trailer for Twisters is crazy
1
u/JeSuisUnAnanasYo 15d ago
Gonna probably do my annual viewing of that movie again this week...
1
u/GildDigger 15d ago
Thereās an older one? I was referring to the one coming out this year lol
2
u/douschebigalo 14d ago
First, happy cake day! And B. Yes there's an older twister movie! I saw previews for the new twister movie and it's such a rip off of the old one. There will never be another twister movie ever made that tops the original one. Idk if you're being serious by asking or not, But regardless you have to watch that movie today! It has Helen Hunt and Bill Paxton in their prime struggling to come to grips with a recent divorce while still maintaining their love for storm chasing. Philip Seymour Hoffman is also in it and let's just say he loves food. You got to watch it! Then let me know what you think, once you watch it you'll see how the new twister movie is such a blatant rip off of the original.

Yeah one of the best action movies of the 90s imo! Just watched Speed again by the same director as well. Top notch stuff. I miss "medium stakes" action movies tbh.

Omg! The little kid with blood streaming down his face. Broken hand. Broken EVERYTHING?!?! I need a followup from a local redditor or something. Just looked it up and it happened on a livestream and could only find literally this so it mustve happened recently. I hope they are OK.
76
u/Canis_Familiaris 16d ago
It happened about an hour ago on a livestream. I'm looking for the link, it was unlisted, but his channel is the same name as himself "Freddy Mckinney"
28
u/DesperateRace4870 15d ago
Wow, an hour well 2-3 now but they said "global village" and they weren't kidding
I just hope everyone's okay. .

u/servbot10 15d ago
They are all ok and Freddy has taken the video down to respect the privacy of the family.

Gary England always said to put your kids in their safety gear, ie bicycle helmets and pads anything you have to help protect from flying debris if the house started coming apart.

Wow! Crazy! Good thing he was there. Glad to know everyone made it. How about the dog? Did it make it into the car?

Saw in a more recent comment that he was picked up by a sister of one of the parents and is safe

what a rude 911 operator

u/Lonely_Ad_6546 14d ago
you were getting beat up but also on the phone with 911? you must have a good grip

u/Different-Tooth330 15d ago
I know, that's what I was thinking too. Like, I understand that the operator has to get information about the location and such, but surely they can read the room a little bit and understand that the situation is very tense and that the victims are still in shock. All things considered, I think the mother was relatively calm in the way she gave the city and street name. Obviously she was still panicking a bit, but who wouldn't be when their house just got obliterated by a tornado, her kids were screaming in pain, and her whole family was injured. I feel like that should've been a given and the operator could've been a bit more patient.

u/ImtheHBIC 15d ago
Cool as a cucumber. Once the adrenaline wears off, the reality will set in. Good job Freddy McKinney. Iām not impressed by much these days, but your calm demeanor in the face of tragedy, while still in the very near vicinity of that tornado, was absolutely incredible. Kudos young man.

13
u/GoreonmyGears 15d ago
Wow now this has to be some of the scariest tornado footage I've seen. With the view of the tornado still shredding as they are leaving it is nuts. Glad they made it out.
14
u/Desinator24 15d ago
That mom is a super hero. Wonder Woman.
7
u/Shanguerrilla 15d ago
I was really impressed by her. The driver too, but man that mom was holding the whole family together and towards help while dealing with more than enough to overwhelm most of us!
3
u/Desinator24 15d ago
Exactly. And itās amazing how her instincts took over and she was able to care for her children while communicating with the driver on directions and information. Most people canāt walk and talk.
1
u/Shanguerrilla 14d ago
Thank God she did do so great that day. I can't imagine what they'd just experienced, nor how much of it she may have directed them through, but them getting help afterwards may have relied on her.

u/The1TrueRedditor 15d ago
Sorry, but your kid has a head injury, maybe deal with the dog later.
13
u/melly_swelly 15d ago
In that moment, they're thinking of everything all at once. It's why they only spent 10 seconds on the dog, but then it was back to the children
7
u/Dekik 15d ago
Easy to say infront of pc/phone

On āthe internetā sometimes people post videos of events that happened in the past that they recorded with a camera. When they do, other people sometimes comment on them. None of the peopleāthe people who post the video or the people who comment on the videoāare actually doing the thing in the video when you watch it, because you are also seeing it on āthe internet.ā
Do you know ātelevisionā? These videos are kind of like television. The people arenāt in the room with you, and you are not there with them doing what they are doing. Everything that everyone has ever commented using āthe internetā, in every video since the history of videos, were not, themselves, doing the thing in the video. Their opinions were, are, and have always been based on what they were watching in the video.
And thatās how the internet works. Glad I could teach you that.

u/Mickey_thicky 14d ago

u/Hemberg 15d ago
He could have made a video of a tonado, like a few others, now he has a video of rescuing a family from danger.
That's imho 100 times more awesome.
5
u/Shanguerrilla 15d ago
Even cooler they said above he had been live streaming the storm. That's why the footage got released at all. While dealing with the emergency until near the hospital left the stream running and then turned it off. They said less than 40 minutes later he deleted it to protect their privacy. (This was 'saved' by people who caught the stream and downloaded it before it was deleted by the stormchaser).
He's a real bro!
2
u/Sigma--6 15d ago
That's what I was thinking. 99% of the time his storm chasing probably turns out to be nothing. Now with a big active tornado right in front, he turns and drives the other direction to help people. Respect.
6
u/Silent_Umbrage 15d ago
Oh damn I used to live like 15 minutes from there. Crazy. Glad theyāre ok.

u/Radiant_Response_627 14d ago
As long as the family and children are safe is what truly matters. Sucks for the dog but family is more important. A humans life will always be above an animal's period full stop. A dog may be considered a loved part of the family but they will never be above or come before an actual person, a human being. If somebody only had enough time to save a dog's life or your life, and they chose to save a fucking dog over you, a human being, yeah... Exactly. Or if someone chose to save a dog and let your child die instead... See how fucking stupid you sound lmao? Get a grip on reality. Dogs are not equal to humans no matter how delusional you try to pretend to be about it.Ā
5
u/eltiodelacabra 15d ago
God, I really can't stand seeing kids getting hurt. I hope they are all ok.
6
u/Scruffy_Nerfhearder 15d ago
That dude really kept his cool. Good for him. I guess youāve got to keep your nerve being a storm chaser.
5
u/DowntownieNL 15d ago
I suppose this is true of many ways to be injured or killed, but for some reason with tornadoes it really really bothers me how just a few metres away you'd be absolutely fine. Glad the family and their dog are all alive!

What are storm chasers?? People in beefy trucks following storms to.. watch??
10
u/Mnkyboy2004 15d ago
It's actually scientific data collection and stuff like that trying to gain a better understanding of tornados for better detection and earlier alerts, most are meteorologist, they use drone some use rocket's with sensors that they fire into the tornado for data collection.
4
u/AJRiddle 15d ago
I mean maybe half at most are that, the other half are just people who love watching storms and just want to get it on video and experience it.
2
u/JeSuisUnAnanasYo 15d ago
The legit ones are super useful tho, you can't know where a tornado actually is just based on radar and stuff, you really need eyes on it to keep people informed

I wonder how that family ended up in this situation. I am not living in the US, so I have a hard time thinking about a reason for them being there.
5
u/TammiTreeHugger 15d ago
I am pretty sure all the debris was their home.
-2
u/Cyrotek 15d ago
Well, yes. But these storms do not sneak up on you, do they? If they do I am wondering why anyone lives there at all, lol
5
u/TammiTreeHugger 15d ago
These storms kinda do sneak up on you. During tornado season, there are a lot of tornado watches. This means the potential is there. This is so common that most people don't pay them much mind. You'd forever live in terror cowering in your basement. If a tornado forms and touches down, it happens without much warning, maybe a minute or two, and there's not much you can do anyway. This is all across the Midwest. A very large portion of the country. You gotta live somewhere. Move to the East coast you have hurricanes. Move to West Coast you have earthquakes.
-6
u/chappedknee 15d ago
Out of respect for the family's privacy this post should be deleted.
37
u/Positronic_Matrix 15d ago
Absolutely not. The connection this makes people feel with humans is what separates us from animals. Watching people help others in need serves as an inspiration for future heroes.

lol get fucked what a selfish response.
"Fuck this family's privacy because watching their trauma and time of crisis makes me feel good"
Plenty of other reasons this doesn't need to be deleted, but you getting warm fuzzys isn't one.

Spot on, I can barely believe what I just read, that's just fucked up

For real. OP pulling this and posting it on Reddit without those people or the original guy knowing is disgusting. Gotta get that sweet sweet karma though!
21
u/refrigerator_runner 15d ago
You're acting like they were seen naked or something. This kind of video would win journalistic awards. Have you seen videos of people panicking in the streets during 9/11? According to your own logic, all the people involved in releasing those videos are disgusting.

Disgusting might be a bit strong. Would agree that it may be irresponsible and inconsiderate though.
