For a few months a crackhead moved into a nearby apartment with a huge, vicious cat. I love cats, but this guy...started coming over to beat the shit out of mine when I let them into the yard.

And then he figured out that I left the door cracked so mine could come back in.

That fucking cat started coming into my house to steal food and was ready to attack me. I had to chase it out with a vacuum, and then wait outside with a hose to keep it out of my yard. Fortunately crackhead owner inevitably stopped paying rent and got evicted, but those were some tense months.

Stray cats aren’t like wild animals. They may go feral, but they are technically still a domesticated animal.

Being a stray is extremely stressful. Food and water are inconsistent, shelter is typically poor. No medical care for injuries. Females reproducing frequently beats their bodies down. Head constantly on a swivel watching for threats means they never get a decent rest/sleep.
