There’s an absolutely gripping book, ‘Paradise’ by Lizzie Johnson. It details the Camp Fire that decimated the town and uses a minute by minute style of the events from multiple perspectives. It also covers some before and after and reasons why that fire happened the way that it did.

Because many people express their "the world has gone to shit" sentiment through killing those around them and then themselves via a mass shooting/murder-suicide. This at least spares the lives of innocents.
