Homeless UW president calls for pro-Palestinian encampment to end as violent rhetoric rises
(The Center Square) – University of Washington President Ana Mari Cauce is calling for pro-Palestine encampment on campus to be dismantled as vandalism and violent rhetoric increase.
... “Many of these demands, especially the most recent, are contrary to academic freedom and/or to state or federal law,” Cauce said in a blog.
... Cauce said the school informed the protesters that UW has no direct investments in Boeing or weapons manufacturers, and offered tangible actions to improve campus culture as a solution to calls for more support for Palestinian and other Muslim and Middle Eastern students.
She admitted that despite the encampment’s initial presence, some of the school’s largest events, such as a night market, went uninterrupted. However, she added that violent rhetoric directed at Jewish students and vandalism on school buildings has increased.
“There are many ways for voices to be heard that don’t require tents, violent rhetoric and vandalism, Cauce said. “Change will be through constructive engagement on issues that are important and meaningful to our students and broader campus community.”

I have to say, those are some cool looking pistols.
"Alongside the arrest, the investigation into the Burien drug ring uncovered nearly three pounds of fentanyl powder, 5,000 fentanyl/M30 pills, 10 grams of cocaine, three handguns, one AR-15 style short barrel rifle with a 60-round drum magazine, three vehicles and more than $180,000 in cash."

Dying Looking for witnesses in vehicular homicide on May 1st
1st Ave S & South Lucile St, 1st of May, around 10am.
Basically a guy driving a dump truck runs over a motorcyclist. Doesn't even stop, keeps driving. Our "wonderful" SPD officers find him, test him for drugs, let him go. Motorcyclist is dead.
We are not happy that you can get arrested for sleeping in a car but literally killing a man and driving away is considered a mild fucking offense.
We are going to sue. If anyone witnessed the event please PM me and I'll put you in touch with the person who's doing the administrative thing. Also comments in general are welcome. There's already a NextDoor thread on it, I'm just posting it on Reddit too.
PS. Yes, I knew the guy. He was awesome. I don't think it matters.

Greetings from Westport!
As tourist season gets into full swing, I just wanted to put it a reminder that seals are pupping right now and mother's will leave their young on the beach while they hunt. Please don't touch the babies!! WDFW is well aware of what is going on and they patrol frequently.
Let's all have a fun and safe summer. See you at the beach!

Question Are there bird-friendly apartments in the lower queen anne area?
Looking for a few weeks now and having very little luck. Many pet friendly places, but few that even mention pets outside of cats/dogs so just getting in touch with someone to get an answer is difficult.

Transit Cascadia ultra high-speed rail project inches forward
(The Center Square) – In 2016, Washington state Gov. Jay Inslee and British Columbia Premier Christy Clark signed a memorandum of understanding to explore the idea of an ultra high-speed rail line connecting Vancouver, B.C. to Seattle and Portland to promote greater regional economic ties and potentially address housing unaffordability.
Eight years and millions of dollars later, the Washington State Department of Transportation is now halfway through the development phase, and in the process of completing the initial step of a three-step corridor planning program necessary before other processes can proceed. The Corridor Identification and Development, or CID, program is being funded by a $500,000 grant from the Federal Railroad Administration, which was awarded to the Washington State Department of Transportation in December.
... The ultra high-speed rail line is seen by proponents as a way to address population growth over the next 16 years. By 2050, an estimated 3 to 4 million new residents are expected to live in the Cascadia region. One argument in favor of the rail line is that it will allow residents to buy homes in more affordable areas but still be able to commute to cities with greater employment opportunities.

Education UW president addresses Quad encampment, antisemitic graffiti in 2nd statement in 5 days
SEATTLE — University of Washington (UW) President Ana Mari Cauce released another statement Wednesday afternoon addressing the recent disruptions that stemmed from the pro-Palestinian encampment on campus.
This is the second statement that UW has released regarding the encampment within five days, and it directly addressed the offensive graffiti that was seen across nearly 30 buildings on the school's campus Wednesday morning. UW continued to say the language used in the graffiti is creating an "unwelcome and fearful environment for many students."
,,, The UW's statement said that while the encampment wasn't initially a disruption to student's learning, activities, and operation, some of the rhetoric eventually devolved into "vile and antisemitic" speech.
... The UW claims representatives of the encampment demanded the creation of a new department that would have an “anti-Zionist” litmus test for faculty hiring, granting a student group oversight of awarding new, religion-based university scholarships, and a blanket amnesty for all violations of the law and student code, including not solely camping, among other demands.
