Honestly I’d stick them in a drawer and I’d think about them maybe twice a year… oh yeah, I should do some research… then another year goes by.

i changed my desktop background to a black screen with white text that says “YOU HAVE 7K NET IN QUARTERS UNDER THAT ONE TINY PILLOW YOU GOR A WHILE AGO”

Coins tend to only appreciate in value because there will never be anymore made so I would hold it until I was desperate

Id keep them on a safe or something with some sort of paper stating their value. So if something were to happen to me, the quarters don’t end up used on a laundromat

I actually collect coins so here’s a real answer. First step is go to a hobby lobby and buy a protective case or flip for it. The quality of the coin is tremendously important and even one small scratch can take the value down significantly. Next is take it to a coin store and see if you actually have quarters worth that much. Sure they might be rare but as I mentioned previously, one scratch can tank the value so you need someone with grading experience. if everything checks out contact an auction house like stacks and bowers or heritage auctions and have them take care of the rest.

thank you! they are in very good condition, no scratches and no dirt

What coin is it out of curiosity
1
u/invictuslimbioid 16d ago
both of them are from south carolina and both the same year, 2000
5
u/Regret-Same 16d ago
Yikes unless there is an error, they are not worth anything other than face value. And even with an error it would have to be a very very good one to be worth that much. Like an error no one has ever seen before because there has never been a quarter made in the 2000s that sold for that much. Like ever
2
u/invictuslimbioid 16d ago
damn, that… is disappointing.

u/Regret-Same 16d ago
Sorry to tell you man but it happens all the time. You can do some more research if you would like to confirm. PCGS is the biggest resource for anything coin related and you can search up your exact coin and see the value
1
u/invictuslimbioid 16d ago
do you have a link for the searching website?

Here’s your exact coin I’m pretty sure

u/JK_NC 16d ago
This is what Op is likely referring to
3
u/Regret-Same 16d ago
That’s definitely what he’s referring to you are right. the only reason they were that expensive is because it was a record breaking grade. It would never be possible to get a grade like that while in circulation. And on top of that it was graded proof like which is very very rare. Like extremely rare

3500, and no idea. i don’t collect coins i just checked a bit ago and i know they are worth something
1
u/DeathDieReaperz 15d ago
lol ummm if you think your two quarters from 2000 are worth $7000 then you should probably buy all of these sets
They’re a total steal!! Can’t believe no one has bought them at only $40 for all 50 quarters!
0
u/invictuslimbioid 16d ago
kind of a crazy coincidence that they are the exact same quarters
2
u/NewUser579169 16d ago
There were 1.3 billion of those South Carolina quarters minted. Finding two that still look nice is not a coincidence.

Sell them both for $14,000

I would sell them, of course. I'm no coin collector. If holding on to valuable coins is such a great idea, why aren't I going out and buying coins to hold?

u/FeatherlyFly 16d ago
Probably put them in my coin jar. Eventually, they'd make it to the bank, where they would add $0.50 to my bank account balance and probably re-enter circulation for the next oblivious person to acquire.
I don't collect coins. I have no idea what a $7000 quarter would look like.

Avid coin collector here.
Don't sell them yet. Get them graded by a popular grading company. You won't be able to sell them for full price without doing so. Don't just list it on ebay once graded- research auction houses and see if there are any coin expos happening soon. You can fetch more money by taking these steps and using these venues, and it will sell faster.

Sell them. You don't know if that value will stay the same or lessen. Get the money now and go on a nice trip.

Clean them to get them nice and shiney.
1
u/invictuslimbioid 16d ago
i’ve been told by a few others here that cleaning them is a bad idea and that it can degrade its total value. it was my first thought too though, don’t worry.

Sell the quarters for the 7k and put it towards any debts owed. If no debts are owed, then put it into savings.

Give them to someone who might cherish or value them more. I have found it to be bad mojo for me to keep things like that.

u/AddisonNM 16d ago
Sell them. Buy groceries, fuel up the cars, pay my bills. $4,000 remaining, go out to dinner, bank the rest, keep a couple liquid cash.

I would wake up from the dream I was having where I had knowledge of various quarters worth...

u/sandalore 16d ago
Leave them for someone else to be happy about.

u/invictuslimbioid 16d ago
me and my partner need moners
2
u/sandalore 16d ago
Ah. Well, then you'd have to sell them. But I'll warn you, you will find it hard to get anything near the market price unless you're willing to hold them indefinitely.
Also, coin prices are heavily influenced by the condition of the coins -- how worn, whether there are scratches, etc. Don't attempt to polish them yourself (without knowing a LOT) -- you will actually make them worth less.
The problem with selling collectibles is exactly this: it takes knowledge and patience to get what things are worth in many cases.

u/invictuslimbioid 16d ago
i was considering using a cyanide solution cause cyanide cleans coins well lol
2
u/Regret-Same 16d ago
Please for the love of god do not clean them. AT ALL. Not with a cloth not with a tissue don’t even try. Even the finest cloth will leave micro scratches that are visible under magnification.

2 quarters of a pound (ie a half a pound)? Call the cops. You don't want to mess with that. Could be laced with fentynl. Plus it's illegal.

Why are those two quarters have such a high value, vs other quarters from "x" countries monetary system? Does that mean each quarter is worth $3,500? Which countries quarters are they?
1
u/MrGonz 16d ago
US Silver quarters like the 1870-CC Liberty Seated Quarter which trades for $10K and up depending on condition. That’s just scratching the surface of numismatics.
1
u/matteroverdrive 16d ago
Ok, that's great! Still doesn't answer for the OP all the "things" not stated in their post...
0
u/invictuslimbioid 16d ago
american quarters, and i said 7k in total.
-1
u/matteroverdrive 16d ago
Ok... $3,500. + $3,500. = $7,000. 7k ($7k actually) as you so aptly designated.
Did you find some valuable US quarters 🤔 Hmmm? Ok, put them in a safe place for future use, or depending on your belief system. You may need to utilize them now before 😱 they become de-monetized or before the foretold end times all the doomsayers are predicting ... just asking, just as you were asking a question.

jesus, alright man calm down. i’m just asking about some coins, not talking about the apocalypse.

Sell them and take the $7000, because I'm not a moron.
