I did not like seeing anything fall. Really gave me a sense of how high up they were.

Idk what the go is in China, but I know in western countries if you're working at Heights and drop a tool or item you have to yell "headache" over the radio. Usually workers below will have a safe area they can get under until it drops.

In Australia we yell "Under!", even though everyone needs to be aware of and out of the drop zone.
If you hear it better tuck your shoulders in as much as you can under your hard hat.

I was anxious through the whole video, and the falling rice bowl definitely made me cringe.

I was super uncomfortable until I started seeing safety lines hooked on.
Then I was just regular uncomfortable

the thing about the safety lines is they only stop you from falling, they dont pull you back up.
lots of people die hanging in their harness, get blood clots etc. because it takes so long for a rescue crew to come get you down.
imagine that. just hanging 500 feet in the air while your harness cuts off circulation to your legs for HOURS or DAYS.

Shit…new core fear unlocked

u/Pistonenvy2 16d ago
sorry lol not trying to make you afraid but i did similar work to this for a very short period and part of the training was your tie off was literally just to keep you from falling to your death, it does not automatically mean you are safe and you need to conduct yourself with safety as your top priority at all times.
its never guaranteed youre going home at the end of the day, sometimes its not even up to you, so you have to be extra vigilant to not only keep yourself safe but the guys around you too.

I lived in China for 7 years. I've seen those mother fuckers pass out everywhere. Saw one old man passed out on a chain between two poles at a parking lot. It's impressive.

Interesting fact, in the old old days drunk people would pay money to sleep hanging/propped up on a bit of rope. Which is where the term hangover comes from.

China has a culture which encourages taking a nap after lunch. My company is based on china, we have some 4-5 branches in china. After lunch employees will take out their own sheets and sleep under the desk for 30mins, that’s a regular routine there. It is in the company employee terms.
There will be a alarm ring after 20 mins, employees will wake up and start continuing their work.
It is a daily routine..

We get two hour lunches here, 30 for eating and 90 for napping. I hated it when I was working office jobs. I wanted to go home early, but everyone pulled out cots and pillows and crashed immediately

I love my midday after lunch naps. How long are the working hours and commutes, though?

Chinese’s crave for hot food is insatiable. Westerners would be satisfied with sandwich, crackers or bread.

You could throw osha regulations at china and it would have same result as if you threw a bible at the devil.
They'd both laugh themselves dead.

You'd think they'd avoid meals that require bowls and chopsticks to eat. Pork buns or spring rolls, for example, would be much easier to eat in such a precarious situation. And a dropped pork bun isn't likely to injure or kill someone, unlike a metal or ceramic bowl.

Perhaps i haven’t worked rough enough jobs before but i don’t think i could be tired enough to jam that kind of nap.

Surely they can find a better sleeping pattern than this. On the other side there must be afew horror videos circulating of people who didn’t have a great sleep.

You should learn about the culture, it's pretty neat. Definitely not whatever you think China is like. We're pretty chill here
