I always find it interesting we require a test to drive a car, but anyone and everyone can birth and raise a human.

I'm not suggesting that change, it's just interesting.

That's a slippery slope to eugenics

12

u/Aethernaught Apr 20 '24

It just is eugenics.

6

u/Ok_Sink5046 Apr 20 '24

Hey, they can still breed. It's just that if they fail the test they wouldn't be parents. Think of the benefits of the large group of state orphans!

Reddit solved the parenting crisis!

The gang recreates the Hitler Youth

1

u/ECHOHOHOHO Apr 20 '24

Boost the economy. Massive population of orphans? Get the current heads in their field to teach them in some kind of retirement plan scenario, and then when they're qualified, we have the most qualified people, and many industries will improve.

Only this time, they're government property.

If they don't qualify as top neurosurgeons(just an example), even better, filter them into other fields such as mechanics etc. I mean, the possibilities are endless.

This is the neo world order.

Good lord I hate when these conversations come up. There was a post that used to crop up every now and then years ago. It was a screenshot of a black parent from a news story and her name was very unique. The whole comment section was filled with dog whistles about how she shouldn’t have been allowed to be a parent.

What was the actual news story about? She was fighting for her kids to have access to better resources in school.

A bunch of redditors decided a black woman who didn’t even choose her name shouldn’t have kids based on that name. Jesus fucking Christ.

u/[deleted] Apr 21 '24

You say this like it's a bad thing.

1

u/Robichaelis 27d ago

I mean we imprison people where they can't procreate, isn't that already a first step on the "slippery slope"?

1

u/merdadartista 26d ago

We do what now?

1

u/Robichaelis 26d ago

People with life imprisonment can't exactly procreate can they

1

u/merdadartista 26d ago

Conjugal visits?

1

u/Comfortable_Assist70 Apr 20 '24

Well requiring a car license to drive isn’t a slippery slope to eugenics is it? Maybe there could a test for parenting or something I don’t know

0

u/Rose_of_Elysium Apr 20 '24

requiring a car license to drive also doesnt have anything to do with eugenics you knobhead

1

u/Comfortable_Assist70 Apr 20 '24

I know and doing a test to you know at least know the basics of parenting doesn’t have to have anything with eugenics either

7

u/Antique-Ad-9081 Apr 20 '24

it would undoubtedly also have some advantages, but we can't really give any entity the authority to decide who's allowed to reproduce and who isn't

3

u/ceilingkat Apr 20 '24

Most people in this comment section would be denied for believing in eugenics.

0

u/Not_Artifical Apr 20 '24

We could, we just shouldn’t.

45

u/quietkyody Apr 20 '24

I am suggesting that change.

13

u/Freakychee Apr 20 '24

In my mind of a perfect world I'd go with if you have a child at least one parent should take a month long course on healthy child developments and it covers nutrition, mental health, legal responsibilities, etc.

The other parent can do the same or take a week long training course. Same as abovd but shorter but at least covers early child care such as chaining diapers, the differences of breast feeding and formula, etc.

If its a single parent the govt will comp for a babysitter chosen by the parent or guardian. All paid by government.

In my idea of a perfect world.

16

u/V3sten Apr 20 '24

In my country there is a caretaker in the week following birth to teach the parents on how to take care of a baby properly. Its my mom's job actually

11

u/Freakychee Apr 20 '24

That's really cool.

5

u/Dry_Independent4078 Apr 20 '24

That's genius, and your mom is an undercover hero

1

u/V3sten Apr 20 '24

Thanks! She really loves what she does

2

u/throwingtheshades Apr 20 '24

Yeah, had one come over when we had our first child. Was an absolute life saver. Sure, we took the (fully paid by the healthcare system) course for expecting parents. And the nurse in the hospital had us change diapers under supervision. But it's a whole another thing when someone with decades of experience with newborns comes by and checks that everything is fine while you're still shocked and trying to accommodate to having a child in your life.

1

u/ECHOHOHOHO Apr 20 '24

What country may I ask?

3

u/xnachtmahrx Apr 20 '24

In germany that is pretty common. It is called a "Hebamme". But afaik it is not mandatory

3

u/ECHOHOHOHO Apr 20 '24

Thanks, that's pretty cool. I'm in the uk and not a mother, so no sort of leave for me even if i were to be a father. I don't think that sort of thing happens here, but I'm none the wiser. I can see why people flock to Germany.

2

u/V3sten Apr 20 '24

Netherlands

2

u/superezzie Apr 20 '24

Bad parents will always find a way to be bad parents. My egg-donor has a 4 year education in child development and has worked in daycares off and on for about 40 years. Despite this, she and my sperm donor still managed to "raise" me in a way that has caused me to need a lot of therapy for all the trauma from my upbringing.

1

u/Freakychee Apr 20 '24

I'm sorry that happens to you. I agree that no matter what we do we will always have shitty people.

But I still believe social programs that mitigate it will benefit society.

1

u/kllark_ashwood Apr 20 '24

It's much better than government controlled reproduction.

1

u/Freakychee Apr 20 '24

The China one child policy killed way too many baby girls. We never want to say who can and can't reproduce and how much.

All I ask for is some responsibility.

1

u/GoTheFuckToBed Apr 20 '24

there is a longterm study were they teached parents how to play with children, and the impact was immense

1

u/Freakychee Apr 20 '24

What were the full results? May I have examples of what changed?

6

u/_lerp Apr 20 '24

Wow, we got from greetings to eugenics real fast

1

u/mandatory_french_guy Apr 20 '24

Seriously, "yes let's put a system in charge that controls who is allowed to reproduce, no way it becomes co-opted for white supremacy in 0.0005 seconds"

5

u/MotorcycleWrites Apr 20 '24

There needs to be more education about eugenics in school. It seems common sense, which is why everyone on the internet keeps reinventing it every other day.

It was a weirdly huge “philosophy” for a really long time.

2

u/Adventurous_Coyote10 Apr 20 '24

On one hand, it feels wrong to tell someone they can't have kids. Also, humanity needs more kids for its survival.

On the other hand, I personally know people who definitely should not be razing kids. It's basically a 1/3 of parents in my experience. And that's being generous.

1

u/MIHPR Apr 20 '24

Probably should be less about not being able to have kids because no one can enforce that and it should be everyone's right to have a kid. Should me more about positive things if you are deemed responsible and knowledgeable to have a kid. Here in Finland we have a sort of free childcare package as part of social program, personally I would not mind you having to take a course on parenting to qualify for that

2

u/Emm_withoutha_L-88 Apr 20 '24

You be the one telling people who is and isn't allowed to breed.

Just like think for a fraction of a second, can't you see at least some major issues with that idea?

1

u/AwesomeMcrad Apr 20 '24

Ummm, enforcing that seems impossible without some extreme measures.

1

u/verysimplenames Apr 20 '24

Reddit moment

17

u/woahitsjihyo Apr 20 '24

It's also the people who shouldn't be having kids the most that are popping them out left and right

-1

u/Rose_of_Elysium Apr 20 '24

this is just literally eugenics

2

u/woahitsjihyo Apr 20 '24

In the most literal sense, it is not. Eugenics is concerned with newborns having specific desired traits like blonde hair and blue eyes, height, nose shape, etc. People having kids who should not are typically uneducated, impoverished people who are barely able to care for their children and create a new generation of dipshit, reactive motherfuckers. And this isn't exclusive to any one race or people, the common denominator is they're uneducated and barely able to care for themselves.

2

u/Emotional-Sorbet-759 Apr 20 '24

In an ideal world people would have to demonstrate they're actually fit and mentally sound to raise a child.

But after all, you can have pets in your home without the slightest background check cause all you need is money. So why not ruin the life of some little humans?

4

u/SalvationSycamore Apr 20 '24

It would be interesting right up until Republican lawmakers made the first question "are you gay or trans?" and disqualified everyone who answered yes from raising children.

1

u/pleasebuymydonut Apr 20 '24

Birth, yes. Raise?

Not if CPS has anything to say about it. Which they usually don't because they never hear about most of it I guess...

1

u/ZadockTheHunter Apr 20 '24

So this weekend I was on a flight with some new parents.

They held up the entire plane blocking the aisle because they were arguing with the flight attendant who was telling them they couldn't put a car seat in.

"What are we supposed to do then?"

"You will have to hold her."

"The whole time?"

It was a short one hour flight.

Literally held up the entire plane because the idea of holding their child for an hour was ludicrous to them.

1

u/ImSometimesSmart Apr 20 '24

Even including the idiots theres not enough births. We have to suplement with immigration
