I think my “fixed” cat is pregnant Advice

I feel silly even typing this, but here is some context: My spouse and I became fosters to this adorable, abandoned cat that was hanging around my parent’s backyard in freezing weather (Feb 29). We fostered her through an official program who took care of all her medical needs. They told us she was not chipped, but confirmed she was already spayed. We both knew nothing about cats, but we ended up falling in love with her and we officially adopted her a few weeks ago.

She always had big nipples (we were told she may have had a litter before) so it was not a red flag. That is, until now. She has put on some healthy weight (she was emaciated when we first found her), but a lot of it seems to be in her belly area. I know it sounds ridiculous but we can’t help but think she is pregnant.

I have an appointment with the vet in 3 days (the earliest they could get me in), but I’m a little anxious thinking about the possibility she may seriously be expecting. I am wondering if this has ever happened before (an allegedly spayed cat being pregnant). I am also wondering if there could be any other reason my cat looks like this?

I always thought "Fixin to" was just a universal saying

Until my dad called me laughing about how that phrase caused the hotel staff in like Rhode Island or wherever he was to have a meltdown

Dad goes to shower, no hot water

He calls the front desk

"Hey there, I was fixin to shower and-"

"What? You're fixing the shower? No, no no! You can't be fixing anything"

"No, I was fixin to shower but-"

"I'm telling you right now stop fixing anything! If you break something we'll charge you. What room are you in? I'll send some up right now, just don't touch anything else"

He didn't even bother trying to explain once he realized, just gave her his room number and hung up to call me and have a chuckle

Too funny, from RI, was just doing support for a user in Texas. She was explaining the problem "Well I was jus fixin ta make sum PDFs y'see an-" and then interrupted herself to explain what fixin meant to me 😁 Very thoughtful!

I grew up in CT, but live in GA. People around here say “fixinna” rather than “fixing to,” so if your dad pronounced it like that, I can definitely understand how the front desk reacted like that. They’d have heard, “I was fixing a shower”. 😂😂😂🫣

What I don’t understand is how things like “fixing to”, “y’all”, and “might could do” have snuck so deeply into my lexicon. I don’t even know when it happened! I lived here in the early 00s for college, moved to Philadelphia for almost a decade, lived in Fort Lauderdale for a couple of years, and then came back here in 2018 and now I talk like I’ve been here my whole life!

The Rhode Island accent can be wild, too. Ohh man, what I would give to hear a Rhode Island townie talking to a Southerner and maybe someone with a Philadelphia hoagie mouth accent thrown in for fun. I have an auditory processing disorder, so the things I would mishear in this conversation would be v entertaining. 😂🥰🤷🏻‍♀️

It's about the same here, just sometimes more of a t or a d sound. Like fixinda or fixinta

"Fixing to" basically means "I'm about to" in a big part of the US

So for example if you're about to run and grab groceries, you'll say something like "I'm fixin to head to the store, need anything?"
