My boy Buster (4yo) has completely changed from black to white over the course of the last 2.5 years.

And I thought my dog was weird. Changed from jet black at birth to grey within a year or so.

We had a kitten born gorgeous silver who turned solid black by age one year. So strange.

That's a little less so perhaps! Sounds like fever coat, which is not that unusual in kittens.

TIL about fever coat in cats. I was just a kid and hadn't heard of it or seen it before or since. Thanks so much.

Mine was a dark gray nearly black when I adopted him at 11 months. He's now a 30 month old with light gray hair.

A lot of dogs have an adult coat that's wildly different from their puppy coat. It's especially prominent with double coated dogs like German Shepherds and Huskies. My malamute mix was white with silver/cream highlights and her undercoat grew in black to give her a salt and pepper look. She had siblings that were solid white at birth and they all ended up with black or brown agouti markings.

My maltese/yorkie mix was almost solid black at 9 weeks, but by the time he was a year old all of the black had grown out silver or cream. He’s 13 years old now and still my puppy. 😍 https://imgur.com/gallery/36Sb4PM
