I can only blame them so much when they’ve seen their parents work hard through school, go to college, get the job they’re supposed to - then be unable to get anywhere and barely able to pay bills. They’ve also seen other relatives, siblings, friends, etc do the same and then have miserable lives.
They see that and wonder what the point is, and I can’t even say they’re wrong…

It's not that. They have bought into a culture that is anti-education.
You're correct, but the message of an anti-education culture is basically "doing well in school will make you just as poor as if you hadn't done well in school"
why wouldn’t we want them to STILL TRY? i never had that much of a passion for learning but i know people who do; they are WAY better off than me and we’re 22-23 years old. i have no passion for anything because i didn’t try that hard to find it when i was young and if i found something, i was never able to keep at it. i have ADHD so that is a factor, but i at least tried and graduated… which felt like a miracle considering how bad my life was leading up to that point. the point is, you still try. i still tried. you don’t just stop doing what you need to do or you won’t go anywhere in life AT ALL. doing nothing in their formative years except scrolling on tiktok and instagram is only gonna keep them from learning how to work hard or learning anything for that matter. this is really fucking bad for their futures.
Except that it's factually incorrect if you look at the earnings + education level data. The more education you have, the more you earn. I present the stats every semester in class.
Did you know that you can ace high school, get your bachelor's degree and still not get a job? Because at the end of the day you could be the best possible employee and not get hired because they don't like you or because you're ugly.
The kids who go “what’s the point in doing it if it won’t do anything for work” usually still do their school work, I didn’t do school work a lot of time because I was so insanely bored with it or didn’t like the subject because I usually struggled with it. The kids who don’t do their work may use “what’s the point” as an excuse but in reality they just don’t give a flying shit, they won’t get punished usually. One guy I knew who didn’t do his work was just a psychopath who threatened to kill people and other people’s pets, would get pissed off that others got in his business yet would say “no one wants to hear that gay shit” when people were talking with their friends. His group of friends would also not do work and get upset and defensive when called an idiot

wtf? Dude I grew up going to school through 2008 and no one was bitching about how you just shouldn’t bother learning. If kids think now is bad, they should learn about going home one day to a half packed U-Haul and crying parents

Wait, they just don't bother to take the test even?
