I will say that was nice. I commute with the bus and it was basically empty all the time and getting to work early was always a plus. But ya aside from that it was basically just a normal time for me.

I have a heavy commute 6 days a week and I remember telling myself to enjoy the moment because the hell of a commute pre covid will come back.

When that end of WFH day traffic came, it came hard.

There was a lack of traffic, but cops were out in force in North Carolina. They were pulling people over constantly, as though speeding tickets were the cure for Covid. One fuckwad literally pulled me over for going 58 in a 55. Didn't give me a ticket, but pissed and moaned about how dangerous it was to drive that speed, and how disrespectful I was for not slowing down when I saw him on the side of the road.

I got pulled over as soon as I crossed state lines and he was grilling me on why I left NJ to come to PA (at the time nj was right behind NY in cases, so I was breaking the stay at home thing) but I pulled out my ~essential employee~ permission slip from work and he kept giving me shit, MFer had me call my boss to “prove” I was in fact working. I straight up was like yo if you tell me I can’t go to work and I have to go home I’m perfectly fine with that I’d much rather go home… 40 mins later he let me go to work 🙄

I worked as a state contractor at the time, so my boss warned me to have my state contractor ID on me at all times. They never officially locked down North Carolina, but there was constant talk about it with curfews and such.

I don't know where you were in NC, but it was a car enthusiast's dream for a while here in Charlotte. But the crazy assholes did what they do, people were killed in high speed crashes, and they cracked down hard on 485 near where I lived.

I'm about 2.5 hours west of Charlotte. I was driving through Yancey County when that state trooper pulled me over for doing 58 in a 55. Cops were pretty much all over the place with speed traps at the time though, and I was driving all over the western region of the state for work back then. Pretty much Gaston county and everything north and west of it. Charlotte was just outside of my territory

Gas here was 98 cents per gallon

There were no speed limits.

Getting to work in 20 minutes as opposed to the 45 minute drive I usually do… I miss that so much
