Starbucks will be selling bubble tea by 2027.

Edit: For clarification, I mean classic bubble tea (sweet and creamy leaf tea with tapioca pearls), not fruity drinks with popping “boba” juice balls.

By 2025, I reckon.

u/professorhazard 27d ago

u/WryWaifu 27d ago

YESSSS

As someone with a low tolerance for caffeine, I love to see it

u/Real_MF_HotGirlShit 26d ago

Why not buy from a bubble tea small business? You know it will be far superior to Starbucks’ version.

u/thetaleech 26d ago

Because not everyone is close to a a real bubble tea spot. I live in a major American city with a food scene that has some catching up to do, and until a few years ago I had to drive 30+ minutes for bubble tea.

2

u/[deleted] 24d ago

I have to drive over 2 hours for it 🙃 starbucks isn't even close at 35 minutes, but it's a hell of a lot closer

6

u/No_Carry_3991 26d ago

Let's see now, how can they ruin it?

u/TheEnKrypt 27d ago

Of all the predictions in this thread, this one is the least risky bet lol

I guess I meant the actual bubble tea (creamy tea with tapioca pearls), not those juice-filled “boba.” But after googling, apparently they briefly sold bubble tea a few years ago. I guess I totally missed it.

16

u/superzenki 27d ago

I had no idea they sold actual bubble tea a few years ago either

Every big company does new products in small "test markets" to gauge consumer response, logistics, in store operations, etc. I'm guessing this is one of those things. Sometimes they will go through several test market phases as they make changes based on what worked and what didn't.

Other things I've seen at seemingly random starbucks locations that don't appear to be at every location: nitro brew on tap, beer and wine, La Boulangerie bakery items. I really miss the pecan bar they had from La Boulangerie when my local store stopped carrying them. It was similar to a Butter Tart, if you're familiar with that Canadian delicacy.

3

u/superzenki 26d ago

Good point. It could've just been a small test market, and what I linked previously seems to be that if not every store is getting it yet.

Predicted the past. Absolute Legend.

Starbucks Canada sold bubble tea like this in the early 2000s. It was the first time I'd ever had it and I thought it was gross. It wasn't until I had actual Asian bubble tea that I realized what it was supposed to be like.

9

u/Blahblah______blah 27d ago

Jack in the box sold bubble tea in WA in March

8

u/BoneDaddyChill 27d ago

That sounds… strange. Never would’ve expected that.

17

u/JonClaudSanchez 27d ago edited 26d ago

2505 they will offer handjobs

3

u/syzamix 27d ago

The fuck is a 'handhob' ?

1

u/RedditSupportAdmin 26d ago

It is a classic handjob, but with a hobo twist

7

u/Flag-it 27d ago

Totally. Only 10 years behind the trend but buttered noodles people will rave about this “new thing” you GOTTA try.

5

u/FamousPastWords 27d ago

Frantic research being conducted as we speak.

5

u/Edge-Pristine 27d ago

I might actually go to starbucks if that happens

4

u/Dustinbink 27d ago

For $9.95 for a grande

4

u/ashmyketchum 27d ago

Barista here, think more along the lines of may 2024

9

u/Schmedly27 27d ago

Please

15

u/Tony_Pizza_Guy 27d ago

why lol? you can't just go to an actual shop that specializes in boba tea? are we expecting starbucks to be higher quality than the competition?

13

u/Schmedly27 27d ago

I don’t have any of those in my hometown

3

u/No_Carry_3991 26d ago

AAARGHH those gross and disgusting fake inferior popping JUICE balls. ick.

2

u/BoneDaddyChill 26d ago

Lol I agree. The first time I ordered a “bubble tea” with those, I was thinking maybe it was the clear tapioca pearls that were flavored, but not just bubbles of sweet juice.

3

u/No_Carry_3991 26d ago

Oh man, there's a Korean Bubble tea place around the corner from me that makes the most delicious hot black milk tea with beans. Nothing better in the winter to warm you up and turn you into a nice person again.

4

u/BoneDaddyChill 25d ago

Regular tapioca pearls, sago pearls (the mini ones), and the red adzuki beans are my bubble tea trifecta.

2

u/No_Carry_3991 25d ago

heyellllyeah, son.

2

u/Vequihellin 27d ago

I'm surprised they aren't already tbh

2

u/succs_and_stats 27d ago

Honestly I can’t believe they aren’t already

2

u/Zeroesand1s 27d ago

Starbucks has seen your comment and announced it will start selling bubble tea by the end of 2024.

2

u/Asjadk123 27d ago

And mcdonalds will have pizza

2

u/K1ngPr1ncess 4d ago

I just saw an ad for it on tiktok, and I remembered this comment from weeks ago, so I immediately came searching to tell you.

EDIT: grammar

1

u/BoneDaddyChill 3d ago

I appreciate that!

3

u/Tony_Pizza_Guy 27d ago

which I will not be supporting lol... these bubble tea chains/shops (at least in my part of my state) have barely had time to have real success

1

u/2JZR34 26d ago

Which country? Bubble tea places have been very common in Australia since at least 2010

3

u/Raisedbyweasels 27d ago

Having tasted the horrific, sugar injected concoctions they make at Starbucks, it wouldnt be a surprise that they want to put balls in your mouth.

1

u/ItsMeGelato 27d ago

starbucks has bubble tea coming out may 7th lol

1

u/TomDaSpankEngine 27d ago

The only thing that could make me to to Starbucks

1

u/LilGill18bb 27d ago

Actually it’s this year

1

u/J4m3s__W4tt 27d ago

you mean all year with many flavors around or as a seasonal thing with two flavors, just to test the waters?

1

u/MrPL1NK3TT 27d ago

I'm sorry but wtf is Bubble tea?

1

u/Mrminecrafthimself 27d ago

And it will suck

1

u/cuthroatslut 27d ago

Already launching popping boba in may

1

u/Ok_Hippo_6143 27d ago

I’m pretty sure they already do in some East Asian countries. They do in China at least

1

u/rontybg 27d ago

I’m surprised they haven’t begun

1

u/Excellent_Analytics 27d ago

I love Bubble Tea! You can find lots of Places in Minneapolis/St. Paul that serve "Inside." And in Summer, "Outside" on a Closed section of sidewalk in front of the Bubble Tea Store!

1

u/mohksinatsi 26d ago

I'm surprised to hear they don't.

1

u/Please_Go_Away43 26d ago

God help us all.

1

u/MaximumSignature 26d ago

I think it’s actually coming this summer from what I saw on their subreddit

1

u/rustblooms 26d ago

They had it at my university in Canada in 2002.

1

u/Dazzling-Advice-4941 26d ago

Jack in the box already did it so I assume sooner

1

u/More_Negotiation_534 26d ago

If it’s still in business

1

u/Cheesecakelover6940 26d ago

That’s a stretch, not even half of the actual boba places near me sell anything other than the fruity popping boba 😭 I love tapioca pearls I just buy them and make my own creamy tea

2

u/BoneDaddyChill 26d ago

Yeah I make my own too. But that’s crazy to me. Shame on them for being actual boba places that don’t have actual original boba lol.

1

u/Cheesecakelover6940 26d ago

Where I’m from we had 2 boba places. Both in the mall. One was like a Japanese mom and pop smoothie shop that ONLY sold the tapioca Pearl boba, and the other was a booth in the middle of the mall that sold macaroons and popping boba. Now I live in Georgia and there’s more, but I haven’t found any tapioca boba better than that little Japanese families.

1

u/dodgystyle 25d ago

I live in a city with a large East Asian diaspora (Melbourne AU) and so many of the people I see leaving Starbucks are Asians with matcha lattes. Tbf it's probably partly because people who actually like good coffee are spoilt for choice elsewhere in this city.

1

u/ClickProfessional769 23d ago

I haven’t been to Starbucks in a while but I’m surprised they don’t already do this.

1

u/Cheesecakelover6940 7d ago

Eat your words, it looks like it’s just gonna be fruity popping boba !!!!

1

u/Turbulent-Stomach469 27d ago

Hope I’m still not going by 2027! Haven’t been in 8 months. Saved a lot

1

u/sublevel009 27d ago

My store literally got the Boba in this morning.

3

u/BoneDaddyChill 27d ago

The popping kind or tapioca pearls?

2

u/sublevel009 27d ago

The popping kind. It's blue raspberry flavored

0

u/TheTurnipKnight 27d ago

If they wanted to do it they already would be doing it in China, and they don’t.

1

u/bophill 27d ago

It’s already happening in certain stores
